Dash warning light indicates check airbags. (About a year ago). Upon using a code reader it states that the wrong airbags are installed and needs to be replaced. The airbags had been replaced in 2007 by GMC after a serious accident as a program\loaner. I purchased the repaired vehicle from Southern Chevrolet in December of 2007 from their used car lot. I do not know why it has gone unnoticed for all these years.
The driver side airbag did not deploy when I got into a wreck. I feel the airbags could have helped me from hitting the steering wheel and hurting my ribs. I feel that it could have been less painful to have the airbag deploy. I thought the airbags were in working order.
THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING OVER 40MPH. THE DRIVER SWERVED TO MISS A DOG IN THE ROAD THE VEHICLE ROLLED AND LANDED ON THE ROOF OF THE CAR. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOYED AND THE DRIVER WAS SEEN AT THE ER FOR CERVICAL AND LEFT SIDED PAIN.
DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER, VEHICLE WAS PUT INTO A DEEP DITCH HITTING A TREE STOPPING IT COMPLETELY AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE WAS CATAPULTED INTO THE AIR AND RETURNED TO THE GROUND QUICKLY AFTER. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION HEADED FOR A TEE INTERSECTION WHERE THE DITCH WAS LOCATED ACROSS THE TEE INTERSECTION.

MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS RECEIVED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN UNKNOWN FACILITY WHERE IT WAS DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC OR DEALER FOR THE AIR BAG FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 200,000.

I WAS DRIVING AND TO AVOID A HEAD ON CRASH I HAD SWERVED AND WENT TO STRAIGHTEN OUT BUT NOTICED THE OTHER DRIVER WAS STILL HEADING FOR ME I HAD BRAKED AND LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR. I WAS A SEATED DRIVER DRIVING TO WORK AND I TRIED TO PASS A DRIVER IN FRONT OF ME THAT WAS DRIVING RECKLESS. AS I BEGAN TO PASS THE CAR THEY SWERVED TOWARDS ME AND I HIT THE GRAVEL AND LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR AND BEGAN TO SPIN AND HIT THE PAVEMENT THEN GRAVEL AGAIN AND BEGAN TO FLIP SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE SLAMMING INTO THE FIELD. ON CHEVROLET 2007 IMPALA LTZ PASSENGER AUTOMATIC AIRBAG SENSOR DOES NOT TURN AIR BAG CONTROL ON WHEN MY WIFE WHO WAS 5'4" TALL AND WEIGHED 92 LBS OCCUPIED THE SEAT. I HAD THE CAR EVALUATED BY CHEVROLET SERVICE DEPARTMENT, AND I WAS INFORMED THAT ALL SENSORS WERE WORKING ACCORDING TO DESIGN. THIS MEANT THAT THERE WAS NO WAY OF TURNING THE AIR BAG TO FUNCTION AS INTENDED SINCE THIS WAS A WEIGHT SENSITIVE CONTROL.
