WHEN I PUT MY VEHICLE IN PARK I GET A BEEPING SOUND AND A MESSAGE THAT SAYS SHIFT TO PARK, WHICH I HAVE TO TRY SEVERAL TIMES. THIS MORNING 21 MARCH 2024 MY VEHICLE KEPT GIVING ME THAT MESSAGE. IT WAS LIKE MY CAR WAS STILL ON. I HAD TO KEEP DRIVING MY CAR AND PUT IT IN PARK FOR IT TO STOP. i HAVE COMPLAINED ON HERE BEFORE. THERE ARE OTHER CUSTOMERS WITH THIS PROBLEM. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED.

When you put the car in park and turn off the car, it will often give you a warning to “put the car in park,” beeping incessantly. Not every time, but often enough that it is annoying. The beeping can range from a few seconds to 10 minutes. If you get out of the car, if will keep beeping until you return. This is clearly a defect, and one that is common with GM cars around that time, according to Google and to mechanics. I asked my dealer about it, and the only way to fix it is to replace the gear shaft. Cost is at least $800. Seems excessive for something that is a known defect. I did not pay to fix.

I shift my car to park and turn off my vehicle and it keeps giving me an alert of “shift to park.”

At 37368 miles my 2019 Traverse had a message Shift to Park. This message does not throw a code so there is no record of the message. When the Shift to Park happened, the car has a beeping sound and even though the car is showing on the shift control it is in park, the car appears to believe it isn't. The dealership repair was to replace the switch in the shift control and added the jumper harness. The cost was covered under warranty. The problem stopped. Now at 69424 miles the Shift to Park message came back on again. When I put the car in park it appears to be in park but the car is beeping reminding me to shift it to park. I started the car, put the car into Drive with the car running, put my foot on the brake and then the red parking brake light came on the dash. The car would not move forward although it was in drive and I had never put the parking brake on. I immediately put the car back in park, leaving it running I pulled the parking brake up and down on the console it did remove the parking brake red command from the dash. I put the car back in drive and it did move forward so I could pull it in garage. The next day I took the car to the dealership. The car did not show the Shift to Park message at the dealership and the mechanic could not get the car to give him the Shift to Park message (even though the day before it was consistently giving me the message on the dash including the red parking brake light.) The dealership replaced the switch harness in the transmission shift control. The replacement part is the same that was installed at 37368 miles. This part is a Genuine GM Part since I have the box and the old switch that I requested. I had to pay $209.91 for the repair that I thought was taken care of at 37368 miles. I checked and there was no recall for this vehicle regarding this issue. I drove the vehicle today 2/1/24 and no issues.

There are apparently 2 holes in my exhaust from the front exhaust pipe issue. The mounting bracket on the front exhaust pipe separated from the pipe, a hole developed because of this. This is a 2019 traverse, 54,000 miles. Should not have exhaust pipe issues. I took it in the dealer, they said they can fix part of this under warranty but the other part of this fix cost $1,600. I've had this car 1 year and again it's a 2019. Curious why GM would only cover part of this fix and make us pay for the other part. This was ALL caused by the same issue, confirmed by the dealer. GM is looking to see if they can assist in paying for this but I would like to still report this because people should not have to pay out of pocket for a terrible design flaw. And is this going to happen again? will it be covered?

“Battery Charging System” (alternator/battery issue) We’ve owned this car for almost 3 years and are on our 4th new alternator and 6th new battery. After further research this seems to be a constant issue with Chevy Traverses. Each time this light has come on, our car has fully shut off in the middle of the road on the way to a mechanic shop. Power steering, lights, locks, doors. Nothing works, putting us in danger of getting stranded or hit. Workers from Oreily, advanced auto parts, a previous mechanic and currant mechanic have all looked at the car and can’t figure out what draining the power. The only warning is the “battery charging system” light coming on shortly before the car fully shuts off. When the light comes on, we flip down to the battery voltage a s can see it drop.

When putting car in park it does not recognize it is in park. The car has to be reversed, pulled forward and turned off & if that doesn't work then out into neutral & turn off. This has to be done numerous times before it recognizes it is in park. It happens often.

Shift into park message just started coming on even though car is in park. There are numerous complaints and lawsuits online regarding this. You have to jiggle the shifter to make it go away. Waiting for a response from local dealer regarding a quote to fix issue.

When the car is in park the vehicle does not believe the vehicle is in park and will not turn off. There is a service bulletin from GM about the issue but has not been recalled. You must press the start button and shift into a gear at least ten times before the shift to park error goes away.

I am joining the ever growing list of Chevy Traverse (2019) owners who are experiencing the "shift to park" problem. When I turn off the vehicle, a message appears on the screen that I must shift to park even though the car is in park. As of now, I can usually jiggle it into place or move the car out of park and try again, but this is a safety issue I can't ignore. The dealer tells me they know of the problem and I am scheduled to have it repaired (or so they say?) at a cost of $425 plus tax.

2019 chevy traverse check engine light came on then went off for a couple of weeks. The engine light came back on and I took it in to dealership. They found code p0420 which is fail code catalytic converter. They call me to shop an showed me a leak on pipe near a weld which was cracked no sign of someone causing damage to it just a cracked weld. This pipe was directly under the passenger and driver which could have been causing the gasses to leak into the vehicle. This carbon monoxide could cause safety risks to passengers. I contacted General motors about this issue and they investigated it but said it was not covered so I paid out of my pocket for the repair which cost $1600 .

When shifting to park, the car indicates that the car has not shifted and has not engaged the parking break. The car remains on and has rolled back as a result. The dealership refuses to acknowledge the problem and it is endemic with General Motors vehicles across the family of brands.

“Shift to park” message when car is put in Park and car cannot be turned off. Reshifting fid not fix the problem. Drove it around a bit then was able to turn it off. Apparently this is a known defect. Dealer who fixed mine says he gets a few every week. Should be a recall since this is definitely a hazard. My car was 6 weeks out of warranty with 30844 miles on it do I had to pay nearly $500 for the repair. And after reading reports, it may recur.

My Chevy Traverse LT has only 15,500 miles. A few weeks after my 3 year warranty expired I started getting an "Action Required Shift to Park" message and the car would not recognize it was in park. After numerous attempts it would eventually recognize and turn off properly. Not only is this frustrating but also dangerous. I called the dealer I purchased from and his only offer was to put it on the diagnostic machine told me that that would be deducted from the total. When I asked what the ballpark figure would be, he said he did not know which tells me that they could just charge me whatever they wanted. He said he knew about this problem and the bulletin that was issued and had fixed many. I'm assuming he should know a ballpark figure but the way he was doing it I wouldn't know until it was all said and done shameful way to do business for a known problem. I called Chevrolet Customer Service and was told it was covered under the power train warranty. Then I found a Chevy dealer in Smithville who acknowledged this is an ongoing problem, not covered by warranty and quoted me $500 to repair by replacing the sensor and harness. He got my business by being honest. I have been a loyal Chevy customer for 50+ years and now rethinking what make car I will get in the future. I am perplexed why Chevy doesn't issue a recall for this issue since a car needs to be in park and turned off.

On several occasions when trying to park my vehicle I would get a “Shift to Park” error message on my dash. Despite turning the car back on and off, the error message did not go away. I had to do this several times before it’d go away.

I get a “shift to park” message after I have turned my car off even though it is in park. The warning does not shut off so I have to remain in my car and turn the car on/off and switch it into gear and out of gear in an attempt to get the warning to stop. At times, I have had to leave the parking spot and drive around more then park again to get the warning to stop. My car is three years old. This should NOT be happening on a three year old car. My car not recognizing what gear it’s in certainly isn’t safe.

After shifting my 2019 Chevrolet Traverse into park, an “Action Required” message appears on the dash that says, “Shift to Park”. But, the car is already in park. Due to this action required message the car will not properly shut off.The only way I am able to shut the car off is by restarting it and shifting into reverse or drive, back to park. Sometimes it takes up to six times of going through this process to get the car to shut off. This issue has been going on for over a month. I arrived at the dealership for a scheduled oil change and the car did the same as I parked in their garage. I had a tech come out to see what was going on. He told me that Chevrolet was aware that this was happening in at least 4 models, including my Traverse. He immediately knew what the fix was. It was explained to me that there was a bulletin, but not a recall for this issue. The dealership said they could fix it for $140, and because I was 7,000 out of my bumper to bumper I had no choice but to pay the amount. If Chevrolet knows this is an issue then they should be covering the cost to repair it. It is bulletin #19-NA-206. They installed a SL-N-Switch and an N-Harness. They also removed transmission range selector and removed and replaced wiring harness on the selector to a newer design, that’s supposed to stop the issue.
