While the car was in driveway moving forward it unexpectedly started moving in reverse causing me to nearly hit a tree. The vehicle is constantly idling even while in park. I took it to a auto repair shop who told me the transmission is out of my car and that my car is unsafe to drive!

I have 128,000 miles on my 2018 Escape. About three weeks ago I was driving down the road at 55 mph when my transmission disengaged and I coasted to a stop. Even though my engine was running I couldn't go forward or backward at all, and so I had it towed to a local mechanic. The mechanic said that this was a common problem with the Escape, that I was going to have to replace the entire transmission, and that it would take about two months to get a new transmission in. About two weeks ago I got a notice from Ford Motor Co. about a recall on my Escape for another transmission issue (Ref. Safety Recall Notice 22S43/NHTSA Recall 22V413). I called my local dealership and was told that my transmission issue was completely different than the recall problem because the recall only dealt with a transmission that shifted differently from the park position, and not a transmission that didn't engage at all. They also said that they would call me when they got the parts in. I have no idea how to resolve this issue. Do I park my vehicle until Ford gets the parts in in the 4th quarter of 2022 to see if this fixes my problem, and only then get the transmission replaced afterwards? If it takes 2 months or more to get a new transmission in, I could see this taking a year before I have my vehicle repaired. If I have the transmission replaced by the local mechanic, it will costs me $6,200.00, and take two months to repair. This would probably save me some money over the dealership cost to repair it, but would void any subsequent work that they might do? Do you have any suggestions as to I might be able to resolve this problem? Thank you, [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

DRIVING WITH MY DAUGHTER WHEN MY 2018 FORD ESCAPE SHOOK HARD AND TRANSMISSION OR WARNING LIGHT POPPED ON. WE SWERVED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I PUSHED IT A BLOCK BACK TO MY HOUSE. I NOTIFIED FORD AND THEY TOWED IT TO WALT SWEENEY ON GLENWAY IN CINCINNATI. WALT SWEENEY DIDN'T WANT TO GIVE ME A LOANER CAR BECAUSE THEIR POLICY IS TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE BEFORE LOANING ONE OF THEIRS OUT. I WENT TO ENTERPRISE RENTAL WHERE I WOULD HAVE TO PAY OVER 400. FOR A CAR FOR TWO DAYS. I DON'T EVEN HAVE A TICKET ON RECORD. I CALLED FORD AND TOLD THEM I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW AND HAVE BEEN THE ONLY OWNER. IT HAS 47000 MILES ON IT. THERE IS NO WAY THE TRANSMISSION WENT BAD BECAUSE IF ME. IT IS A CLOSED UNIT. FORD SAID THERE WAS NO WAY THEY COULD PAY ENTERPRISE FOR A RENTAL. THE ONLY WOULD PAY ME BACK. I COULDN'T AFFORD THE RENTAL CAR THEN AND CAN'T NOW. THIS POLICY IS FOR THE POORER PERSON WHO CAN'T AFFORD A RENTAL, SO FORD DOESN'T HAVE TO PAY THEM BACK. I'M DISGUSTED BY FORD TAKING ADVANTAGE OF PEOPLE WHO NEED THE MOST HELP. I CALLED FORD OVER AND OVER AND NO MATTER WHO I TALKED TO I WAS TOLD TOO BAD. I WALKED THE HALF MILE TO SWEENEY AND BROKE DOWN CRYING. THEY WERE KIND ENOUGH TO DO THE RIGHT AND LEGAL THING WHEN FORD REFUSED THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT FORD SOLD A FAULTY NEW VEHICLE, IT BROKE DOWN AND THEY REFUSED TO GET ME A RENTAL CAR UNLESS I HAD OVER 400. TO RENT THE CAR. THIS DOESN'T INCLUDE IF IT WAS MORE THEN 2 DAYS. SWEENEY, NOTIFIED ME THAT MY CAR NEEDS A TOTAL TRANSMISSION OVERHAUL AND A TORQUE CONVERTER REPLACED. SO NOW THEY ARE OFFERING A RENTAL AFTER I COULD HAVE LOST MY JOB, BUT YET AGAIN IT IS 300 DOWN AND I HAVE TO WAIT FOR A PART BACK. THERE ARE REPORTS ALL OVER THE INTERNET ABOUT FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS IN THIS YEAR FORD.I CAME AFFORD A MONTH OF RENTAL PAYMENTS, LET ALONE A WEEK

ALL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE COMPLETED FOR THE VEHICLE ON TIME, AND ALWAYS SERVICED AT A FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT. ALL RECALLS COMPLETED. NO ACCIDENTS WITH THIS VEHICLE. HAD ISSUES WITH VIBRATIONS COMING FROM FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE CAUSING THE ENTIRE VEHICLE TO SHAKE. THE ISSUE WAS RESOLVED UNDER WARRANTY BY A FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT BY REPLACING THE HALF SHAFT. THREE MONTHS LATER, WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 30 MPH, I RECEIVED AN ALERT ON MY VEHICLE SAYING, "POWERTRAIN MALFUNCTION / REDUCED POWER" AND "MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP - REGULATORY". THERE WAS NO WARNING PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. THE CAR DROVE FINE, AND I DID NOT HAVE ANY ISSUES.ON THE WAY TO GETTING THE VEHICLE TO BE INSPECTED AT THE SERVICE CENTER, THE CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER 70 MPH AND I COULD HEAR THE CAR RUNNING VERY LOUDLY (LIKE A ROARING SOUND). I GOT OFF OF THE HIGHWAY, AND TOOK CITY ROADS AS A PRECAUTION TO GET TO THE SERVICE CENTER. AT EVERY STOP LIGHT, THE VEHICLE WAS OBNOXIOUSLY LOUD. ONCE I MADE IT TO TAKE VEHICLE BACK TO THE FORD SERVICE CENTER, AND THEY ARE NOW SAYING THE TRANSMISSION ON THE VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, AND I AM EXPECTED TO PAY FOR REPAIRS. THIS SEEMS TO BE A DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION, AND FORD IS NOT WILLING TO HELP. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT EVEN HAVE 100K MILES. MY VEHICLE WAS NOT IN THE VEHICLES RECALLED FOR TRANSMISSION SERVICES. *TR
