The shift cable for the automatic transmission was routed next to the exhaust manifold on the engine. The shift cable gets hot and burns into from the heat off the exhaust manifold. I purchased the 2006 Ford F150 used. I had mechanic replace one shift cable with a new shift cable. The new shift cable burned into has I was backing in my driveway. I did research on the internet for trucks in that year range and it included other trucks 2007 and 2008 F150 having the same issue. You can find a ton of utube videos . ShowIng mechanics finding solutions to prevent the shift cables from burning into. I contacted Ford motor company about it. Ford wanted me to take the truck to a dealership and let them diagnosed the problem. The dealership wanted me to pay them a 150 dollars to look at it. I was not going to pay them for something that I already knew the answer too. So it is a manufacturing flaw with the way Ford put the shift cable on 2006 F150 and other F150's in that year range. MY 2006 FORD F 150 HAS 125,000 MILES. I WENT TO PUT MY TRUCK IN REVERSE TO BACK UP OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND IT MADE A NOISE. APPARENTLY REVERS BAND IN THE TRANSMISSION WENT. I NO LONGER CAN PUT MY VEHICLE IN REVERSE TO BACK UP. VERY FRUSTRATED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS VERY WELL MAINTAINED AND IT BROKE FOR NO REASON.
THE MECHANIC SAID I NEED TO REPLACE MY TRANSMISSION, IT IS AN AUTOMATIC 4.6L MOTOR AND DOES NOT GET 4RD OR 4TH GEAR. MY VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND WHEN IT REACHED 40MPH IT WOULD NOT GO I HAD TO SWITCH TO 2ND GEAR.

THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,000.
IWE SOLENOID FAILS TO ENGAGE 4WD SYSTEM. 1ST FAILURE DURING ICE STORM. DEALER REPLACED IWE. 2ND FAILURE 6 MO'S LATER, DEALER REPLACED IWE ADDED "BARE BOND TAPE" TO COVER OVER SOLENOID. 3RD/4TH FAILURE HAS OCCURRED DURING RAINY CONDITIONS OR AFTER I WASHED THE TRUCK. THE 4WD WOULD NOT ENGAGE UNTIL I HAD DRIVEN THE VEHICLE OVER 5 MILES. VEHICLE BACK AT DEALER FOR SAME PROBLEM 3 TIMES IN LESS THAN 12 MONTH PERIOD. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD F150. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH HE HEARD CLANGING NOISES IN THE REAR END OF THE AXLE. HE THEN PULLED OVER TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE, BUT HE COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE CAUSE. AFTER SEVERAL DAYS WHILE DRIVING, THE FAILURE RESURFACED. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION HE NOTICED THAT THE CARRIER BEARING AND THE DRIVE SHAFT WERE LOOSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND HE WAS ADVISED THAT THE THREE YEAR WARRANTY EXPIRED , THEREFORE, HE WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE A NEW DRIVE SHAFT FOR $750.00 PLUS LABOR. THE INTEGRATED WHEEL END SOLENOID IS PRONE TO WATER FROM THE COWL DRAINING ONTO IT, THUS SHORTING OUT AND ALLOWING THE 4X4 VACUUM SYSTEM TO LOSE VACUUM. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE TRUCK'S FOUR WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM ENGAGES UNEXPECTEDLY AND CAUSES DAMAGE TO THE WHEEL HUBS. ONCE THIS HAPPENS, THE DEALERSHIP COSTS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE, REQUIRING A NEW IWE SOLENOID, VACUUM SYSTEM, AND FRONT HUBS. *TR
LAST YEAR MY BRAKES FAILED ON MY FORD F-150 2006, FORTUNATELY I WAS CLOSE BY THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM. LAST MONTH MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING MY TRUCK AND THE REAR WHEELS LOCKED UP ON THE SAME TRUCK, ALMOST CAUSING HER TO GO OVER A BRIDGE, THE RAIL STOPPED HER. I DRIVE A 2006 FORD F150. IN JULY 2007 I STARTED HEARING A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM MY FRONT WHEELS. I BROUGHT IT TO HOLMAN FORD IN TURNERSVILLE NEW JERSEY. THEY REPLACED AUTO 4WD VACUUM SOLENOID. NOW 15 MONTHS LATER THE NOISE IS BACK AND THEY SAID THEIR PARTS AND LABOR WARRANTY IS ONLY GOOD FOR 12 MONTHS. I KNOW OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAD THE SAME PROBLEM BUT THEY SAID THERE IS NO RECALL.
