While driving in my uncongested neighborhood, my brakes totally failed. Dash indicated multiple brake failure warnings. I managed to get my truck stopped and returned home by engaging my low range, four wheel drive. If I had been in on the open road, going down a hill, negotiating a curve, or in traffic a crash would have ocurred, potentially fatality. My vehicle was towed to a GMC dealership. They diagnosed the problem in the electronic braking module with a software update needed. My vehicle Is a 2019, but had only 23,283 miles at the time of the braking failure.
Vehicle was having trouble accelerating, like the parking brake was on. Then received a message that the brake system failed, lane assist failed, and I couldn’t drive faster than 43 mph. Then a message about the trailer brake appeared
Ebcm software update errors
Electrical short on brake booster performance error code c0021 while operating vehicle . Brake pedal became stiff and higher than where I had it . Vehicle making hissing noises and will no longer start due to this error. Safety concern this is not part of a recall list. I nearly crashed. I had to utilize emergency brake.
driving home at low speed truck would hardly stop took it to dealer-suburban gmc troy mi. received a letter afterwards that brake control module was not repaired properly and needed to return for repair truck showed about 15000 miles on odometer April 2020 and showed 51% brake life on rear brakes-when I asked if brake were worn I was told no and dashboard now read 91% brake life on rear brakes-in March2023 with 28000 miles on the odometer my brake monitor alert came on and when I returned to the dealer I was told that my rear brakes were down to 15% and needed to be replaced. Everyone tells me front brakes should wear out first and rear brakes should last much longer.
I keep receiving trailer breaking system service notifications and as far as I know a trailer breaking system requires no service.
Service Brake assist is illuminated, Brake Failure has occured. Near miss on Busy street leaving parking lot.
Brake pad monitor listed over 90% for both front and rear brakes then all of sudden I get warning light that says Service Brake Monitor. I have had this happen twice since I purchased this vehicle new. The dealership has fixed it twice, there were software bugs. I cannot tell when I have a real issue or is it just a software bug.
When I began to accelerate my vehicle the brakes locked automatically. I noticed that once I hit 6 mph the brakes locked. I tried troubleshooting by turning the truck on and off, turning off all of the assistance buttons, turned the parking brake on and off. I was able to drive it in reverse.
Vehicle had the "Service ESC" warning come one along with the warning of brake failure do no exceed 43 miles per hour. Called the dealer to discuss options and was told that I could not get in for 1 month..... For a critical failure and known issue this is unfathomable.
Vehicle was 300 miles out of warranty when I get a service trailer brake warning on my info center replaced a blown fuse and the fuse blows again, no trailer has ever been hooked up to this truck. Went online and inquired about this problem and there's thousands of post and complaints about this problem, even on a GM site there's a PI investigation about this problem, why doesn't GM just do a recall to fix a problem they know about. I'm getting ready to buy a travel trailer and now I don't know if its safe to pull it!
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR BUT FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE DROVE THROUGH A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE CONTACT STATED NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE WHILE USING THE PARKING BRAKE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO JACK GIAMBALVO BUICK GMC (1390 EDEN ROAD, YORK, PA 17402, (717) 781-2154) AND THE DEALER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD BE TOWED TO KOONS CLARKSVILLE CHEVROLET BUICK GMC (12421 AUTO DR, CLARKSVILLE, MD 21029: (410) 988-9522) TO BE SERVICED WHICH WAS STILL PENDING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 13,000.
STARTED WITH IGNITION BUTTON PUT IN REVERSE BACKED UP WENT TO STOP AND REALISED BRAKES ARE NOT WORKING AS USUAL HAD TO STAND ON PEDAL TO STOP. CHECKED MIRRORS TO MAKE SURE I DIDN'T HIT ANYTHING I DIDN'T .THOUGHT MAYBE I HIT SIDE OF BRAKE PEDAL SO I APPLIED THE BRAKE AGAIN AND FIGURED I LOST BRAKE BOOST. I CHECKED FOR WARNING LIGHTS THERE WERE NONE .BRAKES DID NOT WORK PROPERLY UNTIL I RESTARTED TRUCK .THEN I FELT THE PEDAL REACTED PROPERLY . CALLED DEALER THEY DID A RECALL BUT RECALL DIDN'T SPECIFICALLY MATCH MY BRAKE LOSS. I CAN ONLY HOPE IT'S FIXED
AFTER STARTING MY 2019 GMC SIERRA, I RECEIVED A NUMBER OF WARNINGS INCLUDING: 1. SERVICE TRAILER BRAKE SYSTEM 2. STEERING ASSIST IS REDUCED DRIVE WITH CARE 3. SERVICE ESC 4. BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE 62 MPH TOP SPEED 5. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AS I STARTED TO DRIVE, I REALIZED I HAD A VERY DIFFICULT TIME STOPPING AS I HAD TO PRESS THE BRAKE VERY HARD. I WAS IN A PARKING LOT AND ONLY GOING 5 - 10 MPH, BUT STILL HAD DIFFICULTY STOPPING. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY INVESTIGATED THE ISSUE AND MADE A SOFTWARE UPDATE WORKING DIRECTLY WITH GM. FIVE DAYS AFTER PICKING MY VEHICLE UP, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE DEALERSHIP SAYING THAT GM DOES NOT HAVE A PERMANENT FIX FOR THE ISSUE AND THAT I MAY EXPERIENCE BRAKE FAILURE AGAIN. MY VEHICLE IS BACK AT THE DEALER WITHOUT A SOLUTION OR TIMEFRAME FOR REPAIR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO SLOW OR STOP THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS FIRM WHICH REQUIRED ADDED EFFORT IN SLOWING THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE PULLED TO THE RIGHT WHILE BEING STOPPED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DAVE SINCLAIR BUICK GMC LOCATED AT 5655 S LINDBERGH BLVD, SAINT LOUIS, MO 63123, (314)272-4060 TO BE DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V889000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL, SERVICE BRAKES). THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, AFTER LEAVING THE DEALER AND WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH, THE BRAKE FAILURE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE BRAKE FUNCTION BECAME REDUCED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED A SECOND TIME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,621.
AT AROUND 1500 MILES MY TRUCK HAD A ROTATIONAL NOISE WHICH LED INTO CLICKING THE GRINDING AND SQUEALING, THEY CHANGED OUT THE FRONT AXLE AND ALL NEW BRAKES AND ROTORS ALONG WITH A BRAKING SOFTWARE UPDATE. THEY ASSURED ME I SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY MORE ISSUES. NOW AT 4,300 MILES I'M STARTING TO HAVE ROTATIONAL NOISE AGAIN AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 1 HOUR, OF COURSE THEY CANT DUPLICATE NOISE. THE TRUCK HAS HAD 5 RECALLS AND ALSO A 4WD PUMP DEFECTIVE ALL WITH 4,300 MILES. I AM FEARFUL THAT THE BRAKES WILL FAIL
WHEN I STARTED MY VEHICLE THIS MORNING, I GOT A WARNING OF BRAKE FAILURE THAT CAME UP ON MY DIC; THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING A LOT. I JUST TOOK THE TRUCK IN LAST WEEK FOR THE 4TH TIME AND THEY DID ANOTHER UPDATE DUE TO THE LAST RECALL THAT WAS PUT OUT BY GM. NOTHING SEEMS TO BE WORKING WITH THIS BRAKE ISSUE. THE BRAKE PEDAL AT TIMES SEEMS TO HAVE DIFFICULTY WHEN I'M STARTING THE TRUCK. I DID NOT USE MY REMOTE START ON ANY OF THE ISSUES I'M HAVING.THE TRUCK WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVE WAY YET IT'S ALSO HAPPENING AT VARIOUS PLACES AROUND TOWN AS WELL. *TR
4 MESSAGES APPEARED ON DIGITAL DASH WHILE DRIVING. SERVICE ESC, BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE 62 MPH TOP SPEED, SERVICE TRAILER BRAKE SYSTEM, STEERING ASSIST REDUCED. I HAD TO PRESS BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR WITH EXTREMELY EXCESSIVE FORCE TO GET TRUCK TO STOP. NOTE THAT NONE OF THE 4 MESSAGES STATE THE VEHICLE WILL BE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STOP OR SHOULDN'T BE DRIVEN, BUT RATHER THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T EXCEED 62 MPH. IT SHOULD HAVE REDUCED THE SPEED TO MUCH LESS, MAYBE 10 TO 15 MPH. THIS FAILURE COULD HAVE EASILY RESULTED IN VEHICLE ACCIDENT, OR EVEN A FATALITY ACCIDENT. I DOUBT I WILL EVER CARRY MY FAMILY IN THE TRUCK AGAIN DUE TO THIS AND I CERTAINLY WILL NOT ALLOW MY CHILDREN TO DRIVE THE TRUCK.
ON TWO OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE LOST THE POWER BRAKES FUNCTION. NUMEROUS DASH ALERTS STATING INCLUDING "SERVICE ESC" "BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE 62MPH TOP SPEED" "SERVICE TRAILER BRAKE SYSTEM" "STEERING ASSIST IS REDUCED DRIVE WITH CARE" ALONG WITH A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THE BRAKES PEDAL HAD TO BE PUSHED TO THE FLOOR TO SLOWLY COME TO A STOP. BOTH TIMES WERE IN A PARKING LOT. ONE OF WHICH TIMES I WAS MOVING. DEC 26TH AND AGAIN ON JAN 16TH 2019. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP ON BOTH INCIDENTS.
WAS NOT NOTIFIED BY GM CONCERNING THE RECALL FOR THE ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE SERVICE LIGHT COMING ON. LIGHT CAME ON THIS MORNING AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE IN THE DRIVEWAY. RESEARCHED THE INTERNET TO DISCOVER THERE WAS A RECALL. HAD A RECALL CONCERNING THE BRAKE PAD LIFE COMPLETED RECENTLY.
MY PICKUP STARTED, I PULLED OUT ON ROAD AND SPED UP TO 35 MPH, WHEN I STEPPED ON BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN THEY WERE UNRESPONSIVE, SO I BEGAN PUMPING. THEY FELT VERY HARD TO PUMP AND WERE NOT SLOWING THE TRUCK DOWN. LIGHTS CAME ON SAYING SERVICE BRAKES ETC. AS I COASTED TO TRY TO SLOW DOWN OFF SIDE OF ROAD. I HAD TO KEEP PUMPING THE BRAKES DOWN TO FLOORBOARD AND I'M NOT SURE THEY WERE EVEN WORKING AS I COASTED SAFELY OFF SIDE OF ROAD TO A STOP, I TURNED ENGINE OFF IMMEDIATELY CALLING MY DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT. I WOULDN'T DRIVE IT ANY FURTHER AS I FELT I HAD NO BRAKES WHATSOEVER. DEALERSHIP HAD IT TOWED TO THEIR SHOP. THE NEXT AFTERNOON I SPOKE WITH THEM. THEY STATED IT WAS A KNOWN ISSUE AND THAT A RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED (SEE RECALL NUMBER BELOW) BUT I NEVER RECEIVED IT. I DID RECEIVE A SEAT BELT RECALL SO I KNOW THEY HAVE MY CORRECT ADDRESS. I WAS TOLD IT WAS SOME PROBLEM WITH A MODULE AND I CAN COME PUCK TRUCK UP. IT WAS SCARY WHEN IT HAPPENED. I PURCHASED THIS PICKUP NEW ON AUGUST 21, 2019. VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND PEDAL IS DEPRESSED COMING UP TO A STOP. WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL IT FEELS AS IF THE ABS IS ENGAGING. SOMETIMES BRAKING RESPONSE IS NONE EXISTENT. YOU CAN FEEL A SURGE IN THE PEDAL PERIODICALLY WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE. *TR
WHEN I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT ON A CITY STREET AND I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL, THE BRAKES LOCKED ITSELF AND I COULD ONLY GO 5MPH. THIS IS THE FOURTH TIME IT HAS HAPPENED.
MULTIPLE WARNINGS POPPED UP ON THE SCREEN TELLING ME "BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE" "ECU FAILURE" "TRAILER BRAKE FAILURE" AND "MAX SPEED 62 MPH." AFTER THAT THE BRAKES BECOME ALMOST NON-FUNCTIONAL. I HAD TO STAND ON THE PEDAL WITH BOTH FEET AND WAS UNABLE TO SLOW DOWN ENOUGH (45 MPH TRAFFIC) TO HAD TO GO INTO THE E-LANE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. TRUCK ALSO GAVE DTC P25A2. I CAN'T STRESS ENOUGH THAT IT WASN'T JUST DEGRADED BRAKING, IT WAS ALMOST NOTHING AT ALL. IT TOOK NEARLY 1/8TH OF A MILE TO GET IT STOPPED ON A MILD DOWNHILL GRADE.

THE VEHICLE HAD NO POWER FOR ABOUT 25 MINUTES BEFORE IT WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE PANEL STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT DOWN FOR A MANUFACTURER RESET. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN AND THE BRAKES MALFUNCTIONED WHILE MAKING A LEFT-HAND TURN. THE VEHICLE CRASHED HEAD ON INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE BELIEVED THE OTHER DRIVER HAD BROKE HIS FOOT BUT REFUSED TO BE TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE INSURANCE COMPANY TOTALED THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE SUSTAINED SCRAPES AND BRUISES. HE WAS SEEN BY AN ORTHOPEDIC DOCTOR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY SAID COULD NOT DETERMINE FROM THE VEHICLE'S BLACK BOX WHAT CAUSED THE ACCIDENT. THE UNKNOWN DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY BEING INSPECTED BY ENGINEERING FIRM HIRED OUT BY THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000. *BF *JS
