The car caught fire all the sudden while parked and burnt almost completely (~80%)
I took my car to Millennium Hyundai in Garden City, New York on June 22, 2024 to fix NHTSA recall # 23V651000 (manufacturer recall # 251). The dealer claimed the repair was completed and I have documentation to this effect (see service summary, attached). However, neither Hyundai nor the dealer ever updated the NHTSA database to show that this recall repair was completed, so my car still shows that it has an open recall. I do not want this to be an issue when I sell the car. The dealer refuses to take responsibility for updating the database. Either the dealer did not complete the repair as required, or the dealer is refusing to update the database as required. Either way, the dealer is clearly not in compliance with NHTSA regulations and requirements. Please take whatever actions are necessary against Millennium Hyundai. Thank you.
I own a 2013 Elantra Hyundai. I have owned the car since 2019. A few days ago, I was unable to open my trunk with the electronic key. I had my battery replaced at a dealership. My trunk still wont open. I checked Google website. Consumer Report reported a recall in March 2024 for latch to be replaced. Am asking that the recall be honored. Please advise. My email is: [XXX] . Thank you. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Hyundai put out a recall on Sep 22, 2023 and nothing has been done to fix the issue. Every day I get into my car to drive I am scared & terrified that the car will catch fire while I am in it and not only injure me, my child, or other passengers, but potentially other drivers on the road. I am also afraid to park anywhere due to the risk of the car catching fire. My car is my lifeline and I cannot afford to get another car. My workplace only has a parking garage, so I have no other place to park, so now everyday my car could potentially cause structural damages in the garage and other cars could be damaged. I don't want to be on the highway and not have time to get out of the car safely. If Hyundai knows there is a potential FIRE threat, every single car should be pulled off the road and replaced or fixed immediately. Not everyone will know what a fire smells like or if something malfunctions in the electrical system due to the fire/smoke, how will passengers be alerted to immediately pull over and leave the car. This recall sounds extremely urgent. Hyundai needs to be forced to fix all of the issues. Waiting 6 months already with these dangerous cars on the road is irresponsible and can potentially cause a lot of trauma to people, such as myself. Leaking brakes should be considered a high priority and I do not understand why it is not being looked at that way. Hyundai is putting so many lives in danger on the road and its inexcusable.
I was driving my car for 3 minutes, made a left and all the sudden every light on the dashboard came on, the vehicle slowed and the engined died. I was able to get to the side of the street and park the car safely. It took two times for the car to start back up. I called Hyundai Santa Monica Dealership and was able to bring my car in. I have been here all day and since they cannot replicate the issue, they do not know what is wrong with the car. They also are not seeing a history of all the dashboard lights coming on. I have called Hyundai Customer Care and have started a claim with them as I do not feel safe driving this vehicle with an unknown issue. I was fortunate enough to be on a side street, but if this has happened in traffic or on a freeway, I would absolutely have been hit as the car immediately slowed and died without warning. There were no warning signs at the time this happened. I brought my car in for another issue a few weeks ago as there was a problem with the gas gauge and sensors. Previously, the car (on a filled gas take), would flash the gas tank, look empty, and the car slowed and stopped. They said they fixed this prior issue. I am worried to drive this car as I do not know what is wrong with it, and at this point, they do not know either. I have contacted Hyundai customer care team and filed a claim. I am waiting for a case manager to return my call and information on the next steps.
There has been an open recall on my car, where it might catch fire, for months, and there is still no resolution. This seems crazy to me. My kids ride in that car.
I received the recall notice for Recall 251, NHTSA Recall #23V651000. Per the instructions, I have been parking my car outside while awaiting the remedy. I have checked back numerous times to see if a remedy was available. Yesterday my driver's side lock in the handle was broken in an attempted break-in/theft, which most certainly would not have happened if the car was in my garage. I believe the company has not remedied the defect in a reasonable time period and the delay has directly led to further damage of my vehicle.
It has been six months since this recall (Manufacturer Recall Number 251; NHTSA Recall Number 23V651000) was issued. It is not yet complete. This is an unreasonable amount of time to wait for a remedy.
The recall was issued in September and to date in February there is no remedy. The manufacturer has failed to provide remedy in a timely manner, leaving millions of vehicles unsafe for drivers including myself.
unknown, fire hazard to park or drive vehicle. Expedited measurements need to be taken on RECALL...reimbursement for a rental car until the problem can be fixed. Hazardous conditions if fire potential.
I received a notice that I am driving a potential bomb and they will fix it. They are building a factory in my area for making new cars, but shouldn't they be required to fix their old cars before making new ones. They have no date for fixing my car which, basically, makes me without a vehicle indefinitely, which could be forever, if ever. I am unable to purchase a new car, so here I am with a bomb.
I purchased this vehicle from Carvana and when diagnostics were done I was told the tire rods are bad and if I drove it itwould be like an accident waiting to happen. I have sat in the car. Never driven it yet. My boyfriend says not safe to drive. I am 68 years old and need a vehicle. Carvana sold this to me like this with other problems too and they are doing a runaround to get it fixed.
The car shuts down completely while driving — nothing works, cannot put in park, cannot turn back on, nothing. Took to dealership—no codes, cannot identify problem.
Car was stolen. I believe the negligent design of the vehicle, and Hyundai's lack of communication/problem-solving, are at least partially at fault.
Car good
The car keeps stalling at a stop light in the middle of a very busy road. EPS, battery, oil, check engine light comes on. I have to turn the car off, and then back on. Sometimes it take it a few times before it will finally start. Everyone keeps flying up on me honking their horn, and I finally got pulled over to a parking lot. My safety and others are at risk while driving this car, and also my anxiety is through the roof because I never know when it will cut off or if it will even crank up after. The car had to be towed to the shop to be checked out in the next few days, because check engine light came on and wouldn’t go off this time. I really hope this situation gets resolved, because I’m tired of having a fear of wether or not I’ll make it to work. Or back home.
Confirmed the customer's complaint &found the engine didn't start. Inspected the ignition system & the air intake system, but found no concerns. Inspected the engine coolant level & condition & found the engine coolant level was fair. Filled the engine coolant to the proper operating level & continued diagnosing the vehicle. Connected an engine coolant pressure tester to the radiator & pressurized the engine cooling system to check for leaks. Inspected the engine cooling system & didn't find a leak. Removed the spark plugs for inspection & found the spark plugs were contaminated but Ok. Perform inspections of the engine compression & found compression was low. Under 60PSI. Prop the wiring to the starter & found signal was present & the starter cranks but the engine would not turn over. These results verified that Some internal components in the engine have failed. *NOTE: Found ignition coil cylinder 1 fault, causing P0301. Misfire. Replace with new ignition coil pack The tech inspected the engine. Found no obvious fault. No warning indicator. The computer shows the engine is running normally. He did check all the components & found a couple that was weak or will be going bad soon. The ignition coil for the remaining 3 cylinders is firing slightly weak. There are 4 coils, you replace 1, the remaining 3 are from the old engine, original until now. He's recommending having those coil packs replaced. That's helped the spark plug fire more properly. Also, the oxygen sensor on the exhaust pipe. the reading shows the O2 is switched late, meaning the electronic sensor is getting weak. It will fail soon, once it does, it will set the engine light .Engine Mounts: Right: With the engine at idle, performed an inspection of the engine compartment and found the engine shook. Turned the engine off & performed a visual inspection of the engine compartment & found that an engine mount was weak or damaged. The issue has been ongoing for months prior to this issue.
The subframe bushing that holds engine in place has deteriorated. With this issue as you hit potholes, rough roads, the subframe assembly shifts allowing vehicle to sway and drift out of the lane. This is a severe problem as I made several emergency stops due to the car vibrating and pulling extremely hard to the right at which steering wheel was straight an tires where straight. With this shifting if the bolts where to break off you lose complete control of vehicle except for your braking whether it's city or highway driving. With 2 lane roads and ditches if this was to happen you can be looking at a fatal accident or very severe accident. This issue needs to be addressed as it is a safety concern whenever this issue starts to present itsslf.
It's the truck latch issue that is being recalled on many vehicles. Might just locked (truck) and will not open. I will have to bring it in to the dealer but believe that my vehicle should be on the recall list as others have the same problem. Please help. Thank you.
THE TRUNK'S LATCH FAILS TO OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. I TRIED USING A LONG SCREWDRIVER TO RELEASE THE LATCH FROM THE INSIDE AND IT WON'T GIVE IN, EVEN WHEN I TRY OPENING FROM THE OUTSIDE AT THE SAME TIME. I DISCOVERED THIS PROBLEM WHEN THE CAR WAS ON AND IN PARK. I ALSO FAILED TO OPEN IT WITH THE CAR OFF AND THE CAR IN PARK.
I was driving my 2013 elantra on the highway and I hit a chuck hole the engine shut off and was stuck in the middle of traffic.I also have had instances when I will be in traffic and car will shut off sometimes the car will restart immediately and sometimes it will not. The car has a box on the battery that will also become loose from vibration that will prevent car from restarting. Thank God I was able to put car I. Neutral and restart it. This poses a safety risk for not only myself but others. also have had problems with the steering when you hit a bumb or a rough spot on the road car starts to shake and the ability to maintain control is effected.. the brake lights jeep blowing. This car is just a safety haza6 period. It is the worst car I have ever have and regret everyday that I bought it. They should order not only safety recalls but a recall for all cars made in 2013
My car was gone because the brakes were not properly working the day of my accident.
One day while driving on a smooth road, my steering wheel began shaking and has not stopped since. I've taken it to our mechanic who indicated my rotors are fine, which he said would normally cause shaking like that. The steering wheel makes a clinking sound with the slightest movement, and every time I brake I have to firmly hold the steering wheel due to the excessive shaking. Sometimes my EPS sensor will go off. My mechanic has replaced some parts-specifically a "plastic coupler" in the steering wheel, but this shaking keeps happening. After researching forums online many people have reported similar/same issues, and link it to a plastic coupler in the vehicle, that Hyundai says is not covered in any recalls.
First even though it is an eight year old car. It only has 28,540 miles on it. No accidents. for the past few weeks the ESC light keeps coming on. I noticed there are many others with this manufacturer having the same problem, in fact there is a recall for this model ending in 2012. The dealer wants 850 to change replace the front left hub. I believe this is a manufacturing issue. thank you Michael Turner
When I start up and drive my car, the airbag light is on and it reamins on. I have nothing on or against the seat. Not sure if this means airbags are malfunctioning?
