CAR HAS STARTED MAKING CLUNKING SOUND FROM REAR END OF CAR. TOOK TO AN AUTO MECHANIC REPLACED STRUTS WHEEL BEARINGS HAS SPENT HOURS ON TRYING TO FIND NOISE, EVEN TO THE POINT OF RIDING IN THE TRUNK FOR 15 BLOCKS.VERY CONCERNED THIS COULD LEAD TO SOMETHING BAD. *TR
AT 110,615 MILEAGE ON CAR HAD INSTALLED LINK ASSY FR STABILIZER, BUSH-STABILIZER, LINK ASSY-FR STABILIZER, JOINT ASSY-CV LH AND WASHER-INR ALSO REPLACED: LF CV AXLE SHAFT AND SWAYBAR LINKAGES AND BUSHINGS. ABOVE WAS DUE TO CLUNK TYPE NOISE FRONT WHEN TURNING BOTH DIRECTION:THEY FOUND SWAYBARS BUSHINGS WORN AND SWAYBAR LINKAGES HAD EXCESSIVE PLAY CAUSING KNOCKING TYPE NOISE. THEY ALSO MENTIONED SOMETHING WAS RUSTED? NOT SURE, AS THEY DID NOT NOTE THAT VERBAL COMMENT ON SERVICE REPORT. SINCE I HAD THIS CAR BROUGHT IN AT 99,000 MILES FOR A COMPLETE WARRANTY CHECK AND WAS TOLD ALL WAS GOOD AND I HAVE HAD ALL MY MAINTENANCE DONE AT THE DEALERSHIP REPAIRS WERE A ONETIME GOODWILL REPAIR. NOW MY CAR IS BROUGHT BACK IN AT 111,000 DUE TO A CLUNKING, KNOCKING IN THE BACK! SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN AT 20-30MPH AND BREAKING. CAR HAS BEEN WITH THE DEALER SINCE MAY 21, 2014 TODAY IS MAY 26, 2014 AND THEY STILL DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS WRONG. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS NOTIFIED WHILE NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER 13V354000 (SUSPENSION ) REPAIR WAS BEING PERFORMED THAT THE FRONT ENGINE SUPPORT HAD DETERIORATED. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE FRONT ENGINE SUPPORT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED IN ORDER TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,586.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THE FAILURE WAS LOCATED AT THE FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM, WHICH WAS SEVERELY CORRODED. THE LOWER CONTROL ARM WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 159,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE FISHTAILED AS THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND WAS DIAGNOSED AS HAVING A RUSTED REAR DRIVER'S SIDE CONTROL ARM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 156,000 AND THE CURRENT APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 158,000.

CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE FRONT CONTROL ARMS RECALL NOTICE. *SMD THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE CONTROL ARMS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, DUE TO THE FACT THE BUSHINGS WERE STARTING TO SEPARATE. THE CONSUMER ASKED ABOUT THE CAUSE, AND THE DEALER STATED IT WAS DUE TO WEAR AND TEAR. THE CONSUMER BEGAN TO RESEARCH THE ISSUE, AND DISCOVERED A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR THE FRONT CONTROL ARMS. THE CONSUMER FILED A COMPLAINT AND HYUNDAI RESPONDED BY SAYING THEY DID NOT SHOW ANY OPEN CAMPAIGNS ON HIS VEHICLE. IN OCTOBER 2013, THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL # 13V354000 WHICH OUTLINED AN ISSUE WITH CORROSION THAT COULD RESULT IN DETACHMENT OF THE INBOARD CONTROL ARM MOUNTING POINTS. AS A RESULT OF THE NOTICE, HE CONTACTED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD, IT APPEARED TO BE RELATED AND THAT IT WOULD BE FIXED AT NO COST. CONSEQUENTLY, WHEN HE CALL THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THE ISSUE IDENTIFIED IN THE NOTICE AND HIS ISSUE WITH THE BUSHINGS THAT WERE STARTING TO SEPARATE WERE TWO DIFFERENT ISSUES AND THAT THE INITIAL ISSUE WOULD NOT BE A PART OF THE RECALL. THE CONSUMER STATED THE ONLY THING THE DEALER DID, WAS ADD A CORROSION KIT UNDER-COATING AERO AND RUST PREVENTIVE V. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT INFORMED THE CONSUMER, THEY WERE NOT REPLACING THE CROSS-MEMBER ON ANY VEHICLES, THEY WERE MERELY USING SOME KIND OF PROTECTANT TO PREVENT FURTHER CORROSION.

THE CONTACT WAS ATTEMPTING TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE BECAUSE THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO KEEP THE VEHICLE IN ONE LANE. THUMPING NOISE FROM REAR OF CAR ALMOST ALL THE TIME, ALL ROAD TYPES AND ALL SPEEDS. DEALERS WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE KNOW ABOUT SUCH PROBLEMS. SEEMS TO HAPPEN DURING HOT WEATHER(ABOVE 80 DEGREES) HAS BEEN GOING ON AT LEAST 3 YEARS AND GETTING WORSE. MANY COMPLAINTS ON EDMONDS.COM BUT HYUNDAI SERVICE TECH AT PINEHURST REFUSED TO RECOGNIZE THAT AS A VALID SITE. MOST PEOPLE THAT RIDE IN CAR GET SCARED THAT CAR IS GOING TO COME APART. WIFE WORKS AS REALTOR AND IS AFFECTED BY PROBLEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE CONTACT SLIGHTLY RELEASED THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DRIFT TO THE LEFT UNEXPECTEDLY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY PERFORMED A FRONT END ALIGNMENT. ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR IDENTICAL FAILURES WITHOUT ANY RESOLUTION. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE HYUNDAI SONATA MINE IS AN'06 HAS A STRUT PROBLEM IN THAT IT "THUNKS" ON CERTAIN ROAD SURFACES AND BACK INTO OR OUT OF DRIVEWAYS, I HAVE TRIED IN VAIN TO GET HYUNDAI CORPORATE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ONLY TO FALL ON DEAF EARS, THE EDMONDS CAR SPACE FORUM IS FULL OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT HIS PROBLEM. FACTORY REPS SAY THEY CANNOT HEAR ANYTHING, DEALERS SAY THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR AND IT IS UP TO CORPORATE TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THESE VEHICLES. THIS IS A TOTALLY FRUSTRATING PROBLEM THAT THEY SEE FIT TO IGNORE AND YET THEY HAVE TSBS ON TWO OTHER OF THEIR VEHICLES WITH THE SAME IDENTICAL PROBLEM BUT CHOOSE TO IGNORE THE SONATA AND AZERA WHICH HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. EVERYBODY ON THE FORUM HAS TRIED IN VAIN TO GET HYUNDAI CORPORATE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT, BUT NOTHING WE CAN DO IS MOVING THEM. *TR
THUMPING NOISE AND VIBRATION FROM REAR SUSPENSION ON BUMPY ROADS. FEELS SIMILAR TO WHAT YOU MIGHT EXPERIENCE IF THE GAS TANK WERE LOOSE, OR EXHAUST HIT UNDERCARRIAGE OF CAR, OR IF SPARE TIRE WERE LOOSE IN THE TRUNK. BECAME MORE NOTICEABLE IN WARMER WEATHER, AND AFTER 5000 MILES. SEEMS TO HAVE NO EFFECT ON HANDLING OR STABILITY. RETURNED CAR TO DEALER. DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED SEVERAL COMPLAINTS, BUT INSISTED THAT IT WAS A CHARACTERISTIC OF SUSPENSION DESIGN AND NOTHING WAS WRONG NOR COULD ANYTHING BE DONE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *NM
REAR SUSPENSION HAS ANNOYING AND LOUD THUMPING NOISE WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS UNDER 40 MPH. STARTED NOTICING NOISE WITHIN 1000 MILES AFTER PURCHASING VEHICLE, WHICH WAS ON 10/26/05. MANUFACTURER HAS ADMITTED THE PROBLEM IN A BBB ARBITRATION HEARING, CASE NO. HYU0641565 DATED 04/27/06 AND STATED IT AS A CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE. ALSO IN A TELEPHONE CONVERSATIONS WITH A REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVE AND OTHERS AS A PROBLEM. TOOK THE PROBLEM TO DEALERSHIP, WHO COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE AND DID NOT PUT IT ON THE WORK ORDERS. THEREFORE, I LOST THE ARBITRATION HEARING, EVEN THOUGH THEY TOLD ME PERSONALLY THAT HYUNDAI TOLD THEM NOT TO DO ANYTHING, BECAUSE THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN TERMS OF THE THUMPING. WHAT AUTOMOBILE MANUFACTURER WOULD INCORPORATE A NOISE IN THEIR VEHICLES AS A SELLING FEATURE AND STATE IT'S A CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE? IF HYUNDAI DOES NOT KNOW THE CAUSE OF THE REAR SUSPENSION NOISE, THEN THEY DO NOT KNOW IF A SAFETY FACTOR IS INVOLVED. THE SUSPENSION COULD AND PROBABLY IS DEFECTIVE IN SOME WAY. *NM
