TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING SHE CONTINUED TO HEAR A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE. SHE ALSO MENTIONED THAT EVERY TIME SHE HAD TO SHIFT GEARS THEY WOULD LOCK AND IN ORDER TO CONTINUE DRIVING SHE HAD TO ENGAGE THE SHIFT RELEASE BUTTON. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE GEAR SHIFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 86,000.
I HAVE A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA SE-R. THE CLUTCH REPEATEDLY LOOSES PRESSURE WHEN THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE IS HOT COMBINED WITH A HEAVY TRAFFIC SITUATION. I HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY SAY THEY HAVE REPLACED THE CYLINDER, BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. I DID A LITTLE ONLINE INVESTIGATING AND IT APPEARS AS THOUGH I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON THAT OWNS AN ALTIMA THAT IS PLAGUED BY THE SAFETY ISSUE. IT ALMOST IS IMPOSSIBLE TO SHIFT. *TR
FOR NO APPARENT REASON THE CLUTCH PEDAL WILL LOSE ALL RESISTANCE AND LAY ON THE FLOOR LEAVING THE VEHICLE INOPERABLE AND STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THIS ISSUE HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES, AS EARLY AS 44K MILES AND AS RECENT AS LAST THURSDAY, MARCH 24, 2011 WITH 68K MILES. PUMPING THE CLUTCH PEDAL FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME DID RESTORE ENOUGH HYDRAULIC PRESSURE TO OPERATE THE CLUTCH AND WITHIN 2 MILES OF "IN TOWN" DRIVING THE CLUTCH PROBLEM COMPLETELY RESOLVED AS IF IT NEVER HAPPENED. THERE ARE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS OF THIS ISSUE ON THE FORUMS. FORT PIERCE NISSAN OFFICIAL ANSWER WAS " NOTHING". THEY WOULDN'T ACKNOWLEDGE IT. I'M SURE WITH ALL THE COMPLAINTS FROM ALTIMA SE-R OWNERS NISSAN IS FULLY AWARE OF THE ISSUE, YET THEY WON'T STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND MAKE IT RIGHT FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS. I'VE BEEN A LOYAL NISSAN CUSTOMER SINCE 1988 BUT WITHOUT PROPER RESOLUTION, THIS WILL END THAT STREAK.
I HAVE HAD MY ENGINE REPLACED AS A RECALL BUT WINDSOR NISSAN HAS NO RECORD WHEN I ASKED FOR THE REPORT. I WENT IN TO THE DEALER ON 12/16/10 AT 5:30 PM BECAUSE I WAS HAVING PROBLEMS AS THE GEAR SHIFT WAS GETTING STUCK IN PARK AND COULDN'T MOVE AT ALL. I READ THE BOOK WHICH SAYS TO PUSH THE SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON WHICH WILL LET ME MOVE THE GEAR SHIFT TEMPORARILY. I THEN CONTACTED THE DEALER WHO IN TURN TOLD ME TO BRING THE CAR IN TO CHECK IT OUT. THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME $110 JUST TO SEE IT UNTIL I DISPUTED THAT. AFTERWARDS, HE TOLD ME THAT THE SHIFT LOCK CONTROL UNIT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, HE COULDN'T EXPLAIN TO ME WHY THE CAR JUST UP AND STARTED TO ACT UP OR WHAT LEADS TO THAT. I HAVE AN OLDER MODEL NISSAN ALTIMA AND IT RUNS BETTER THAN THE 2006. I HAVE HAD MORE PROBLEMS WITH THE NEW CAR THAN I HAD WITH THE OLD ONE. I HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE BACK BRAKE LIGHTS 6 TIMES WITHIN THE YEAR BECAUSE IT CONTINUES TO BLOW OUT AS WELL AS THE OVER HEAD LIGHT ON THE INSIDE OF THE CAR. THE ONLY THING THAT CONFUSES ME IS THE GEAR SHIFT, NOW I'M SUBJECT TO PAY $300 FOR THIS PART BEING REPLACED BECAUSE IT ISN'T COVERED IN THE WARRANTY AND NO ONE COULD TELL ME EXACTLY WHAT CAUSES THIS PROBLEM. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM AND WHAT CAN BE DONE TO KEEP THIS FROM HAPPENING IN THE FUTURE. 1-2 TIMES A WEEK,I HAVE TO REPEATEDLY PUSH HARD ON THE BRAKE TO GET THE CAR OUT OF PARK. I AM NOT PARKING ON ANY KIND OF INCLINE. THIS HAS GONE ON FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. NOW TWICE IN THE LAST 2 MONTHS, I GO TO GET READY TO PARK THE CAR,AND MY GEARSHIFT WILL GO TO NEUTRAL BUT WILL NOT GO INTO REVERSE OR PARK. I TRIED COSTING THE CAR A BIT,TRIED DRIVING IT FORWARD A BIT,I EVEN SHUT THE CAR OFF IN NEUTRAL, NOTHING WORKED. FINALLY,WHILE IN NEUTRAL,I REVVED THE ENGINE A LITTLE BIT AND GEARSHIFT SMOOTHLY STARTED WORKING AGAIN. *TR
I PURCHASED MY NISSAN ALTIMA SE-R IN JUNE OF 2007. DURING THAT SUMMER THE CLUTCH WOULD STICK ON FEW OCCASIONS AND I WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO CHANGE GEARS. ON ONE OCCASION I HAD TO PULL OFF THE FREEWAY AND PUMP THE CLUTCH PETAL MULTIPLE TIMES UNTIL IT BECAME FREE AND I WAS ABLE TO CHANGE GEARS SUCCESSFULLY. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP TO WHICH THEY TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN WHEN THE PROBLEM WAS ACTUALLY OCCURRING, WHICH WAS VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE SINCE IT WAS SPORADIC. I HAVE NOTICED THAT DURING WINTER ON OCCASION THE CLUTCH AND BRAKES WOULD NEED TO BE PUMPED BEFORE DRIVING OTHERWISE THE CLUTCH WOULD STICK AND THE BRAKES JUST WOULDN'T WORK. THIS MORNING I GOT IN MY NISSAN WHICH HAD BEEN PARKING IN THE GARAGE ALL NIGHT, AND THE CLUTCH PETAL WAS SUNK TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE CAR ON, BUT COULDN'T SWITCH GEARS. I TRIED PULLING UP ON THE CLUTCH PETAL WITH MY FOOT AND NOTHING. IT TOOK MULTIPLE TIMES OF TRYING TO PICK IT UP WITH MY FOOT AND TRYING TO UN-STICK IT BY PRESSING DOWN HARD ON IT BEFORE IT FINALLY CAME UP AND I WAS ABLE TO PUT IT IN REVERSE TO DRIVE. *TR
ON MY 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA WITH THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION, IT HAS A TENDENCY TO JUST LOSE PRESSURE ON THE CLUTCH PEDAL AS I AM DRIVING MAKING IT HARD OR SOMETIMES VERY NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO SHIFT IN AND OUT OF GEARS.......HAS HAPPENED TO ME ON BUSY ROADS CAUSING A VERY SCARY SITUATION. *TR
DON'T KNOW OF ANY EVENTS BUT I HAVE A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA SE-R 6-SPD AND THE CLUTCH PEDAL HAS THIS PROBLEM WHERE IT SINKS TO THE FLOOR AND I HAVE NO PLAY WHAT SO EVER TO SWITCH GEARS OR EVEN GET OUT OF NEUTRAL. I HAVE BEEN ON MANY FORUMS WHERE THIS SEEMS TO BE A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH ALOT OF 6 SPD TRANSMISSIONS FOR THE ALTIMAS. I HAVE HAD THE CAR SINCE JAN 2007 AND HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM A FEW TIMES. ONCE, THE CAR JUST DIDN'T START AT ALL CAUSE I HAD TO PRESSURE IN THE CLUTCH AND HAD TO BE TOWED AND THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN AUSTIN REPLACED BOTH THE SLAVE AND MASTER CYLINDER AND SAID THAT WOULD FIX IT BUT I STILL GET THE SAME PROBLEM. MY FATHER AND A COUPLE OF MY FRIENDS WHO DROVE THE CAR HAVE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. JUST WANT TO HAVE THE CAR FIXED SO I DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THIS ANYMORE AND WANT TO KNOW WHAT TO DO NEXT. *TR
REGULAR DRIVING. I WENT TO PARK CAR AND COULD NOT TAKE OUT OF GEAR ONLY ABLE TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND LEAVE KEY IN IGNITION . THE CAR ROLLED INTO AND WAS STOPPED BY CURBING, THANKFULLY, BEFORE ROLLING INTO A BUSY ROAD. THE SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID ON NISSAN ALTIMA LOCKED UP. THE SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID AND SHIFT LOCK CONTROL MODULE WERE REPLACED AND OLD PARTS KEPT BY DEALER. *TR
2006 NISSAN ALTIMA SER. WHEN DRIVING THE CLUTCH SINKS. SEVERAL PUMPS WILL GET IT BACK IN ORDER. ALSO AT TIMES ON A COLD START IT DOESN'T FEEL LIKE THE CLUTCH DISENGAGES COMPLETELY. *TR
WE PURCHASED A USED 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA, WITH IN A MONTH OF PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE WE WERE UNABLE TO GET THE CAR OUT OF PARK OR INTO PARK. WE THOUGHT IT MIGHT HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE WINTER WEATHER, BECAUSE IT WAS PERIODICALLY HAPPENING. IT IS NOW SUMMER AND IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME WE START THE CAR. IT EVEN HAPPENS WHEN WE HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE CAR AND PULL IN TO A PARKING SPOT , WE ARE UNABLE TO GET THE CAR INTO PARK. WE HAVE BEEN OVERRIDING THE LOCK MECHANISM BY INSERTING A METAL TOOL INTO IT, BUT IT IS QUITE INCONVENIENT EVERY TIME WE DRIVE THE CAR TO HAVE TO DO THIS! *TR
I HAVE BEEN HAVE TROUBLE WITH MY 2006 ALTIMA SE-R SINCE BUYING IT AT 52K MILES. IT'S LIKE EVERYONE ELSE; THE CLUTCH GETS REAL FLOPPY AND LOOSES PRESSURE UNTIL IT SINKS TO THE FLOOR AND WONT RETURN. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME ABOUT 30 OR 40 TIMES SINCE BUYING THE CAR IN OCTOBER 2009, BUT I CAN'T REPLICATE FOR THE DEALER. THEY ALSO SAY THAT THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS BEFORE, AND NOBODY HAS EVER COMPLAINED ABOUT IT TO THEM - APPARENTLY THEY ARE LYING. THIS AFTERNOON, I WAS DRIVING MY SON HOME FROM DAYCARE, AND THE CLUTCH DID THIS VERY THING, BUT FOR THE FIRST TIME, I COULD NOT GET THE CAR OUT OF GEAR AND I WAS IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC. I ALMOST HIT THE GUY IN FRONT OF ME. WHEN I FINALLY YANKED IT OUT OF GEAR, I COULDN'T PUT IT BACK INTO GEAR BECAUSE THE CLUTCH WAS STUCK TO THE FLOOR. I SAT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR AN HOUR WITH MY 14 MONTH OLD SON IN 99 DEGREE HEAT WAITING FOR THE CLUTCH TO "REPAIR ITSELF". THIS IS BOGUS AND NISSAN NEEDS TO OWN UP TO THEIR RESPONSIBILITY OF FIXING THESE CARS BEFORE SOMEONE DIES. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 ALTIMA SE-6 WITH A 6-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. DURING HOT WEATHER OF AFTER THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN FOR EXTENDED TIMES, THE CLUTCH WILL MAKE A HOWLING SOUND ACCOMPANIED WITH A SHUTTERING WHEN RELEASED TO PULL OFF FROM A FULL STOP. THIS EVENT WILL ALSO CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO STALL UNLESS EXCESSIVE REVOLUTIONS (OVER 3000 RPM) ARE APPLIED DURING RELEASE. IN TRAFFIC OR ON A HILL, THIS HAS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO ROLL BACKWARDS. TOOK CAR TO A COUPLE OF DEALERSHIPS; ALL OF WHOM CLAIM INABILITY TO REPRODUCE THE ISSUE. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE OCTOBER 2007. THIS ISSUE ONLY APPEARS WHEN THE DRIVE TRAIN IS WARMED UP; HOWEVER, IT PRETTY MUCH OCCURS EACH AND EVERY TIME WHEN THE TEMPERATURE CONDITIONS ARE MET. *CN
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STARTED THE IGNITION AND THE GEAR SELECTOR FAILED TO SHIFT FROM PARK INTO THE DRIVE POSITION. THE GEAR WOULD NOT SHIFT FROM DRIVE INTO PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE GEAR SHIFT SOLENOID. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO ORANGE LIQUID SPILLING INTO THE CONSOLE CAUSING A WIRING SHORTAGE. THE ESTIMATED REPAIR COST WAS $922. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS NO LIQUID SPLILLED INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURES OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY AND BECAME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE OVER TIME. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO ROCK THE VEHICLE IN A BACK AND FORTH MOTION TO ALLOW THE GEAR SELECTOR TO SHIFT INTO THE SELECTED GEAR. THE CONTACT WOULD ENGAGE IN THE ROCKING MOTION OF THE VEHICLE WHICH WOULD TEMPORARILY CORRECT THE FAILURE. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL WITHOUT WARNING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAD NOT REPAIRED WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
2006 CERTIFIED USED NISSAN ALTIMA WILL NOT COME IN AND OUT OF "PARK", OR INTO "REVERSE" WHILE TRYING TO GO INTO "PARK". SHIFTER AND RELATED PARTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED WITH NO SUCCESS IN SEPTEMBER 2010. PROBLEM HAS BEEN ONGOING SINCE FEBRUARY 2009. CAR HAS BEEN TO DEALERS MULTIPLE TIMES TO DIAGNOSE PROBLEM WITH NO SUCCESS. SHIFTER AND ELECTRONIC MODULE REPLACED LATER SEPTEMBER 2010. PROBLEM CAME BACK WITHIN 48 HOURS OF GETTING CAR FROM DEALERSHIP. OWNED CAR FOR ONLY 8 MONTHS BEFORE PROBLEM AROSE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT COULD NOT SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO REVERSE, PARK, OR NEUTRAL. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS A SILVER SWITCH NEAR THE GEAR SHIFTER THAT COULD BE USED TO MANUALLY CHANGE GEARS. LATER, THE VEHICLE BECAME NON-RESPONSIVE WHEN THE MANUAL GEAR SHIFTER SWITCH WAS USED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 18,000.
I HAVE A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA SE-R WITH A 6 CYLINDER ENGINE AND A 6-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. PERIODICALLY THROUGHOUT THE LAST 30 MONTHS THE CLUTCH WOULD FALL TO THE FLOOR WHILE DRIVING, MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SHIFT. THE SOLUTION WAS TO CATCH THE CLUTCH WITH THE DRIVER'S TOE AND RAISE IT MANUALLY BACK INTO POSITION EACH TIME PRIOR TO A SHIFT. THIS IS DIFFICULT, DISTRACTING, AND DANGEROUS AND COULD EASILY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I REPORTED IT TO MY DEALERSHIP BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE IT AND THEREFORE DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS MONTH, AT 38,000 MILES, THE CLUTCH HAS FALLEN TO THE FLOOR AND HAS REMAINED STUCK THERE, RENDERING THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY UNDRIVEABLE. THE DEALER NOW RECOMMENDS REPLACING THE MASTER AND SLAVE CLUTCH CYLINDERS, HOWEVER THEY INTEND TO CHARGE $709.97 FOR IT. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECTIVE PART SINCE IT HAS HAD PROBLEMS FROM 6,000 MILES ON AND IS REPORTED BY MANY OTHER NISSAN OWNERS AS WELL ON INTERNET FORUMS. THE NISSAN FILE NUMBER IS 6393944. IT IS MY HOPE THAT SOMEONE WILL TAKE AN INTEREST IN THIS ISSUE BEFORE THIS INCIDENT CAUSES A FATAL WRECK. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE GEAR SHIFT BOX WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY AND THE LEVER REMAINS STUCK WHEN SHIFTING. THE DEALER STATED THAT SOMETHING WAS SPILLED IN THE GEAR BOX. THEY PULLED THE GEAR BOX APART AND FOUND NO SPILL. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE DEALER DID NOT REASSEMBLE THE VEHICLE CORRECTLY. THE DEALER IS CHARGING $800-900 TO REPAIR THE GEAR SHIFT. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED TO FIND ANOTHER DEALER TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE NISSAN MANUFACTURER IS NOT ASSISTING. THE VEHICLE IS UNDER WARRANTY, BUT IS NOT BEING REPAIRED AS SUCH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,000.
MY 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA (6,500 MILES) WAS PURCHASED NEW FROM THE DEALER. DURING THE PAST MONT I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING A PROBLEM WITH MY CLUTCH PEDAL GOING ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WHEN PRESSED AND NOT RETURNING. I CHECKED ON LINE AND IDENTIFIED THAT APPARENTLY WITH THE 6 CYL. ENGINE AND STANDARD TRANSMISSION THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE BREAK DOWN OF THE DOT 3 BRAKE FLUID THAT IS USED IN THE CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER. MANY SITES RECOMMEND THE HIGHER BOILING TEMPERATURE OF THE DOT 4 OR 5.1. THE DEALERSHIP INSISTS THAT DOT 3 IS SUFFICIENT HOWEVER IN TALKING TO OTHER ALTIMA OWNERS ON LINE IT IS A RECURRING PROBLEM. *TR
CLUTCH STUCK ON FLOOR, DID NOT RETURN TO UP POSITION. VERY DIFFICULT TO SHIFT GEARS - CLUTCH ENGAGED ABOUT 1/2" FROM FLOOR. OCCURRED AFTER SITTING IN TRAFFIC FOR APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES. STOPPED VEHICLE AND CLUTCH WAS FINE AFTER ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF FOR 15 MINUTES. *TR

IT WAS PURCHASED NEW. 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA SL. WHEN THE TRANSMISSION HAS DISENGAGED I HAVE BEEN TRAVELING FREEWAY SPEEDS AND THE CRUISE CONTROL IS SET CAUSING A QUICK RISE IN THE RPMS-WHICH IS NOT GOOD FOR ANY ENGINE. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA SER. THE CLUTCH HAS BEEN REPAIRED ON 3 OCCASIONS SINCE HE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN AUGUST 2006. THE CLUTCH PEDAL STUCK TO THE FLOOR, MAKING A LOUD NOISE IN THE ENGINE ,AND THE PEDAL HAS TO BE LIFTED UP WHILE DRIVING WITH HIS FOOT. ON SOME OCCASIONS THE PEDAL WOULD RELEASE IN THE HALF WAY POSITION WHICH MAD EIT DIFFICULT TO SHIFT GEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS FORCED INTO GEAR WHEN TRYING TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE, THE GEAR WAS DIFFICULT TO ENGAGE. THE DRIVER WILL CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE LEMON LAW. THE MOST RECENT REPAIR ON THE CLUTCH WAS ON 01/15/07. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY WITH THE FLYWHEEL, AND ALL OF THE HYDRAULIC AND HOSE SYSTEMS. SINCE THE REPAIRS THE CLUTCH MADE A LOUD NOISE AND GRINDING SOUND. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 7,500. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,500. *AK
ACCELERATING WILL OCCASIONALLY RESULT IN CLUTCH PEDAL GOING TO THE FLOOR BOARD. EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO SHIFT OUT OF GEAR, UNABLE TO GET THE CAR INTO ANY GEAR. SOMETIMES ABLE TO RESUME NORMAL CLUTCH OPERATION BY PULLING ON PEDAL. SEVERAL COMPLAINTS TO DEALERSHIPS IN FIRST YEAR AND A HALF AFTER PURCHASE. CLUTCH AND MASTER CYLINDER CHECKED FOR LEAKS. FLUID REPLACED OR TOPPED OFF. UNABLE TO DUPLICATE SYMPTOMS AT DEALERSHIP. PROBLEM REMAINS. *TR
