WENT TO GO START MY CAR AND THE INTELLIGENT KEY INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON. COULDN'T EVEN USE THE BACK UP METHOD TO START THE CAR. HAD TO GET IT TOWED TO THE DEALER. COULDN'T DO ANYTHING WITH THE CAR AND WAS LEFT IN AN ABANDONED LOT. NOT A VERY SAFE PLACE TO BE STUCK. ALSO, THERE WASN'T A WARNING PRIOR TO THIS. FROM THE SOUNDS OF IT THERE ARE MANY OTHERS THAT HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE AT RIGHT AROUND THE SAME MILEAGE MARK. I THINK IT'S TIME FOR NISSAN TO CONSIDER A RECALL. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. I HAVE MY CAR AT THE DEALER NOW AND FROM THE SOUNDS OF IT WILL BE IN FOR A REPAIR OF AROUND 1,000 OR MORE. WILL NOT BE BUYING A NISSAN AGAIN UNLESS THE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. *TR
ELECTRONIC STEERING LOCK CONTROL BOARD - CAR WILL NOT START AND IS ILLUMINATING THE YELLOW KEY SYMBOL. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS A FAILING ELECTRONIC STEERING LOCK CONTROL BOARD. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE PART IS AROUND $500 AND WITH LABOR THE TOTAL IS $779. WAS TOLD IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING A LOT WITH THIS MODEL AND MILEAGE. MY CAR IS LESS THAN 4 YEARS OLD SO I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO SPEND THIS MUCH MONEY TO DRIVE IT. PLEASE INSIST ON THEM RECALLING THIS ISSUE AND REIMBURSING THE FULL AMOUNT TO ME. IF NOT, THIS WILL BE MY LAST NISSAN. *TR
WHEN MY DAUGHTER WENT OUT TO START THE VEHICLE,THE SECURITY SYSTEM FOR THE STEERING COLUMN LOCK/UNLOCK WOULD NOT ALLOW THE CAR TO BE STARTED DUE TO IT SAYING THAT THE STEERING COLUMN WAS LOCKED WHEN IT ACTUALLY WASN'T.THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN ALL OF THE 2008-2009 NISSAN ALTIMAS.IT HAS BEEN AT THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP FOR 5 DAYS NOW,AND THEY ARE TELLING ME IT WILL BE ANOTHER 5 DAYS BEFORE THEY CAN GET THE PART NEEDED DUE TO IT BEING ON BACKORDER.THESE CARS SHOULD BE RECALLED BY NISSAN BEFORE SOMEONE GETS STRANDED.THE ONLY THING THAT CAN BE DONE WHEN THIS RELAY QUITS IS TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE CLOSET DEALERSHIP.THIS REPAIR COSTS AROUND 1000.00 (LABOR,PARTS,TOWING),AND THAT IS IF AND WHEN THEY CAN GET THE PART. *TR

THEY TOLD ME THAT THE PART IS AROUND $500 AND WITH LABOR THE TOTAL IS $950. FURTHERMORE, THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER AND THEY DO NOT KNOW WHEN THE PART WILL BE AVAILABLE. THEY INDICATED POSSIBLY TWO WEEKS. WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT IS GOING ON WITH THIS PART AND THAT I SHOULD CALL NISSAN TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE CONSUMER AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT AT 800-NISSAN1. IT LOOKS LIKE THERE ARE TONS OF PEOPLE HAVING THIS ISSUE, SO IF YOU ARE AS WELL, PLEASE LOG YOUR INCIDENT/COMPLAINT WITH NISSAN AT THE NUMBER ABOVE AS WELL ENTERING IT ON THIS WEBSITE. *TR
I PURCHASED THIS USED 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA FROM A DEALER IN MY LOCAL TOWN. WHEN I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE IT HAD AROUND 36-38,000 MILES ON IT (CAN'T REMEMBER AT THIS TIME). HAD THE VEHICLE FOR A LITTLE OVER A YEAR, I DO REGULAR MAINTENANCE ON IT AND HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS. I DRIVE THIS VEHICLE APPROX 100 MILES A WEEK, AND WHEN I WENT TO LEAVE WORK THE OTHER DAY THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T TURN ON. THE INTELLIGENCE KEY BATTERY WAS CHARGED, THE BATTERY FOR THE CAR WAS CHARGE, I UNHOOKED THE BATTERY AND RESET IT, STILL NOTHING. THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK AND I COULDN'T DO ANYTHING TO GET IT TO TURN ON. I TOWED IT TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHO RAN A DIAGNOSTIC AND SAID IT WAS THE, "STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT" WHICH WOULD COST $717 FOR PART AND LABOR ALONG WITH A $70 DIAGNOSTIC FEE. I WAS LUCKY I WASN'T STRANDED IN A BAD AREA OR WITHOUT A WAY TO REACH SOMEONE. THEY NEED TO RECALL THIS PART, TOO MANY INCIDENTS WITH THIS PART IN NISSAN VEHICLES. *TR
CAR WAS DRIVING PERFECTLY FINE, PARKED AT A FRIEND'S HOUSE FOR 2 HOURS AND THEN GOT IN IT TO LEAVE AND IT WOULDN'T START. THE KEY WARNING LIGHT WAS ON, AND THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH INDICATED THAT THE KEY WAS NOT IN THE CAR EVEN THOUGH IT WAS IN THE IGNITION HOLE. AFTER SPEAKING WITH THE TECHNICIAN, IT IS THE STEERING LOCK MECHANISM AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. MY ISSUE IS THAT THERE WAS NO WARNING AT ALL, IT WAS BELOW 30 DEGREES OUTSIDE AND I WAS UNABLE TO GET MY CHILDREN HOME. WERE I NOT AT A FRIEND'S HOUSE, I WOULD HAVE BEEN STRANDED SOMEWHERE WITH TWO SMALL CHILDREN IN THE MIDDLE OF WINTER. THERE WAS NO WARNING AT ALL THAT THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN, NO WARNING LIGHTS, NO SIGNALS TO INDICATE TO ME THAT SOMETHING NEEDING REPLACING OR FIXING. AND IT'S AN $800 DOLLAR FIX WITH PARTS AND LABOR... THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL, THIS IS RIDICULOUS. APPARENTLY THIS HAPPENS AFTER ABOUT 2-3 YEARS IN THIS YEAR MAKE AND MODEL. *TR
LEAVING WORK TO GO TO LUNCH AND MY ALTIMA WONT START. PUSH BUTTON START NOT RESPONDING AND WILL NOT MOVE FROM LOCK POSITION. CHANGED THE BATTERY TO MY CAR ALONG WITH BATTERY FOR KEY. STILL NOTHING. AFTER DOING RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET I FOUND THAT MY PROBLEM IS THE STEERING LOCK CONTROL MODULE, WHICH SEEMS TO BE A BIG PROBLEM FOR SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE AS WELL. MY BROTHER WAS ABLE TO LOCATE THE STEERING CONTROL MODULE AND HELD IN THE START BUTTON, AND THE BREAK AND AT THE SAME TIME HE TAPPED ON THE MODULE AND MY CAR STARTED. WE WERE ABLE TO DRIVE IT HOME THANKFULLY WITHOUT CALLING A TOW TRUCK. 100% WITHOUT A DOUBT THAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH MY CAR AND IT WILL NEED REPLACED. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE MY CAR ANYWHERE BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO GET STRANDED SOMEWHERE. I STARTED MY CAR THE NEXT MORNING AND IT DID START, WHO KNOWS HOW LONG IT WILL LAST UNTIL THE PART FAILS AGAIN. I WILL NEED THIS REPLACED BUT REALLY FEEL AS THROUGH NISSAN SHOULD BE DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM DUE TO THE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WITH THE VERY SAME PROBLEM. *TR
ELECTRONIC STEERING LOCK ASSEMBLY FAILED PREVENTING THE CAR FROM POWERING ON OR STARTING. IT TOOK ALMOST TWO WEEKS FOR THE DEALERSHIP TO RECEIVE THE REPLACEMENT PART. FROM MY RESEARCH, IT APPEARS THAT MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PART FAILURE. THE PART WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE POWER-TRAIN WARRANTY AND WAS ALMOST $900 TO GET REPAIRED. NISSAN RECOMMENDED WE REPORT THE ISSUE FOR A POSSIBLE FUTURE RECALL. *TR
I STOPPED FOR LUNCH AT A FAST FOOD ESTABLISHMENT AND AT THIS POINT EVERYTHING WITH THE CAR WAS FINE. AFTER I ORDERED AND GOT BACK INTO MY CAR, I TRIED TO START IT. THE CAR WOULD NOT START. THE KEY LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASH. AFTER CALLING THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP, THEY SUGGESTED REPLACING THE BATTERY IN THE KEYFOB. I DID REPLACE BATTERY AND PLACED THE KEYFOB IN THE ALTERNATIVE START PORT. THE CAR WOULD STILL NOT START. AFTER TRYING TO JUMP THE CAR BATTERY, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT I NEEDED TO TOW THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY THE STEERING COLUMN LOCK MECHANISM. THIS MALFUNCTIONING PART LEFT ME STRANDED IN A PARKING LOT DURING A SNOW STORM. UPON SEARCHING THE INTERNET, IT APPEARS THAT NISSAN HAS ISSUED RECALLS ON THIS PART IN OTHER VEHICLES AND HAVE STOPPED USING THIS PART IN NEW VEHICLES. THERE ARE ALSO HUNDREDS OF REPORTS OF THIS PART FAILING IN MY MODEL AND YEAR. THIS PROBLEM HAS THE POTENTIAL OF IMMOBILIZING A CAR DURING SEVERE WEATHER, LEAVING THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS STRANDED. *TR
CAR WOULDN'T RECOGNIZE KEY IN IT, BUT COULD UNLOCK DOORS AND TRUNK, AND WOULD NOT START. CAR WAS TOWED TO NISSAN AND THEY FOUND THE STEERING LOCK CONTROL MODULE NOT COMMUNICATING WITH IKEY READER. TECH INSTALLED NEW IKEY READER AND CLEARED THEFT CODES. *TR
MY DAUGHTER AND 2 YEAR OLD WERE TRYING TO GET HOME UNDER AN ICE STORM WARNING. THE PUSH BUTTON START DID NOT OPERATE. THEY WERE STRANDED IN THE COLD UNDER A SEVERE WEATHER WARNING. NISSAN SAYS THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK CONTROLLER CAUSED THE FAILURE AND WOULD NOT COMMUNICATE WITH THE INTELLIGENT KEY FOB AND START BUTTON. THERE IS NOT A METHOD TO OVERRIDE THE PUSH BUTTON WITH A MECHANICAL KEY. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR THE 2009 ALTIMA. MY ALTIMA HAS ONLY 37,500 MILES BUT IS PAST THE 3-YEAR WARRANTY PERIOD. THE REPAIR WAS $803. THE SERVICE WRITER AT THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT HE EXPECTS A RECALL IN THE NEAR FUTURE BECAUSE OF THE FREQUENCY WITH WHICH THEY SEE THIS FAULTY MODULE. THE PART WAS CHANGED IN 2010 BUT NISSAN REFUSES TO REPLACE THE BAD ONES IN THE 2008-2009 MODELS. *TR
AMBER 'INTELLIGENT KEY' LIGHT STARTED APPEARING ON AND OFF. FINALLY VEHICLE REFUSED TO ENGAGE STARTER AND WHIRRING NOISE INDICATING STEERING LOCK IS FUNCTIONAL NO LONGER HAPPENS. VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE TOWED AND RESEARCH INDICATES THE PROBLEM IS COMMON IN 2009 ALTIMAS AND OTHER NISSAN VEHICLES. REPAIR QUOTES ONLINE APPEAR TO BE IN THE $900 RANGE. NISSAN NEEDS TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS PROBLEM AND ISSUE A RECALL. *TR
DROPPED MY SON OFF AT SCHOOL, WHEN I RETURNED TO THE CAR, IT WOULD NOT START AT ALL. THE CAR RECOGNIZED MY KEY WAS PRESENT BUT PUSH BUTTON DID NOTHING. MANUALLY USING THE KEY SLOT WOULD NOT START THE CAR EITHER. HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED AND AM BEING TOLD THAT WILL COST $800-1100 TO FIX STEERING LOCK AND THAT PARTS ARE ON BACK ORDER. DOING AN INTERNET SEARCH I HAVE FOUND LITERALLY HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ON THE SAME DEFECT OVER THE PAST THREE WEEKS. THIS DID OCCUR ON A VERY COLD DAY, ABOUT 10 DEGREES AT THE TIME. *TR
THE INTELLIGENT KEY WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS I ARRIVED AT MY OFFICE ON THE MORNING OF 1/14/13. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE THAT AFTERNOON, THE PUSH-START IGNITION REMAINED IN THE "LOCK" POSITION AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND TO REPEATED START ATTEMPTS. BREAK LIGHTS AND HEADLIGHTS CONTINUED TO FUNCTION CORRECTLY. CALLED LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED. AFTER AN HOUR, THE NISSAN SERVICE ADVISOR CONTACTED ME WITH NOTICE THAT THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK CONTROL UNIT HAD FAILED AND THEY ESTIMATED THE TOTAL REPAIR COST TO BE AT $900.00. THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT HAVE THE PART IN STOCK, BUT THEY WERE ABLE TO LOCATE ANOTHER DEALERSHIP WHO WAS ABLE TO COURIER IT OVER THE FOLLOWING MORNING. I CONTACTED NISSAN NORTH AMERICA ON 1/23/13 AND THEY REFUSED TO OFFER ANY COMPENSATION RELATIVE TO THE COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS REPAIR. THIS IS A PART THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED AT LEAST A YEAR AGO BASED ON ITS APPARENTLY RAMPANT HISTORY OF FAILURE FOR OTHER ALTIMA OWNERS. *TR
TRYING TO START VEHICLE, YELLOW KEY WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND CAR WOULD NOT START. THIS HAPPENED WITHOUT WARNING AND I WAS STRANDED AT LUNCH 15 MINUTES FROM WORK WITH NO WAY TO GET BACK. THE STEERING LOCK UNIT FAILED TO DISENGAGE. THIS PART SHOULD BE RECALLED SINCE THE SAME PART (I'VE HEARD) WAS RECALLED ON OTHER NISSAN MODELS AND CAN LEAVE ANYONE IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE FAILED TO START WHEN ENGAGING THE PUSH-TO-START SWITCH. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE STEERING LOCK MECHANISM WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE REQUIRED PART WAS ORDERED AND THE VEHICLE WAS SCHEDULED FOR REPAIRS WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
I WENT TO THE VALERO IN CABOT, AR TO GET GAS THIS PAST WEDNESDAY MORNING BEFORE I WAS TO GO TO WORK, AND WHEN I GOT BACK INTO MY CAR AND IT WOULDN'T START. THE INTELLIGENT KEY INDICATOR LIGHT WAS ON, AND WOULD NOT START. I COULD NOT PRESS THE BRAKE IT WAS VERY STIFF AND THE START BUTTON WOULD NOT COME OUT OF THE LOCK POSITION I READ THE OWNERS MANUAL, CALLED THE NORTH LITTLE ROCK NISSAN DEALER, AND REALIZED THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO EXCEPT HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THIS IS A 2009 MODEL WITH 55,000 MILES, AND I TAKE GREAT CARE OF IT. THE MECHANIC CALLED ME LATER AND SAID I NEED A NEW STEERING LOCK UNIT. HE SAID IT WOULD COST ABOUT $1200.00 TO REPAIR, AND HE SAID IT ISN'T COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, AND THERE WAS NO RECALL, AND TO LET HIM KNOW WHAT I WANTED TO DO. THIS IS FAULTY EQUIPMENT FROM NISSAN AND THIS ISSUE COULD NOT HAVE BEEN PREVENTED BY ANYTHING I COULD HAVE DONE OR NOT DONE. NOT ONLY DO I NOT HAVE 1200.00, BUT I HAVE 3 KIDS AND A JOB I THAT I NEED TO GET BACK & FORTH TO. I HAVE BEEN STRANDED FOR 3 DAYS NOW, I HAVE MISSED WORK BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE ANOTHER MODE OF TRANSPORTATION, MY INSURANCE COVERS NOTHING EXCEPT $75 FOR THE TOW, AND I HAVE SPENT COUNTLESS HOURS ON MY PHONE WITH NISSAN. I'M WITHOUT CAR, NO WAY TO GET TO WORK TO SUPPORT MY FAMILY, AND DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH GROCERIES TO SURVIVE THE W/E !!! THERE SHOULD ALREADY BE A RECALL ON THIS, AS I HAVE READ & BEEN TOLD BY NISSAN THIS HAS HAPPENED TO 08,09,10 MODELS. THERE DEFINITELY NEEDS TO BE A FORMAL RECALL ON THIS PART BECAUSE IT HAS AFFECTED TOO MANY PEOPLE AND IT COULD EASILY RESULT IN DEATH IF THE LOCK OUT TAKES PLACE IN TRAFFIC.. MY WIFE WAS ABOUT TO HEAD HOME FROM WORK IN THE AFTERNOON. THE KEY FOB UNLOCKED THE CAR LIKE USUAL BUT THE CAR WAS UNRESPONSIVE IN HER ATTEMPT TO START IT. THE KEY LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH. WE TRIED A NUMBER OF THINGS BUT THE PUSH-TO-START BUTTON WOULDN'T CHANGE OUT OF THE 'LOCK' POSITION - EVEN TO GO TO 'ACCESSORY' MODE. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A LOCAL NISSAN DEALER WHICH INFORMED US THAT THE STEERING LOCK UNIT MALFUNCTIONED AND WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE CAR WILL NOT BE ABLE TO START UP UNTIL IT IS FIXED. THE PART IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND COSTS CLOSE TO $500. MY FINAL QUOTE WAS $864 FROM THE DEALER. THE CAR WILL HAVE TO BE REPROGRAMMED, SO THERE IS NO WAY TO CIRCUMVENT THE DEALER'S COST. NISSAN NEEDS TO OWN UP TO THEIR MISTAKE AND RECALL THIS DEFECTIVE PART. *TR
CAR WOULD NOT START. YELLOW KEY LIGHT AND FLASHING RED KEY LIGHT ON PANEL. SEEMED LIKE A SECURITY ANTI-THEFT PROBLEM BUT IT TURNED OUT TO BE A FAULTY STEERING LOCK MECHANISM. A $700 REPAIR. AND, WHAT'S WORSE IS, THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THIS ITEM EVEN WITH MANY COMPLAINTS REPORTED. THIS WAS RECALLED ON OTHER NISSAN MODELS (CUBE, 390, ETC) BUT NO ON THE ALTIMA. NOT HAPPY. *TR
LAST MONDAY FEB 4 I WENT OUT TO START MY CAR AN GO TO WORK . NOTHING HAPPENED. IT DIDN'T EVEN RECOGNIZE MY KEYFOB. THE KEY LIGHT WAS LIT UP ON DASH. I HAD MY BATTERY IN MY CAR REPLACED AND MY KEYFOB BATTERY REPLACED. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH I FOUND THAT ITS THE STEERING CONTROL LOCK THAT WAS FAILING. I CALLED MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALER IN OWENSBORO KY AND THEY SAID THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER AND DIDN'T KNOW WHEN IT WOULD BE IN? I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT A CAR FOR OVER A WEEK . [XXX] AT NISSAN IN OWESBORO SAID NO RENTAL CARS WHERE AVAILABLE. I HAVE A SMALL CHILD AND I WORK SO I NEED MY VEHICLE IN WORKING ORDER. I CALLED NISSAN CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SHE SAID I WOULD ONLY BE REFUNDED IF THE PART WAS RECALLED WHICH IT ISN'T. SO I HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THE PART, LABOR, AND $90 TO HAVE IT TOWED 22 MILES TO OWENSBORO TO BE FIXED. IM SORRY BUT IN MY OPINION ITS NOT MY FAULT IT FAILED. I PAID OVER $12,000 FOR THE CAR NOW I HAVE TO PAY ANOTHER $800.00 TO BE FIXED? THAT'S UNACCEPTABLE! SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE! 2009, NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5S. WOULD NOT START, YELLOW ILLUMINATING KEY IN LEFT HAND CORNER. TOWED TO DEALERSHIP SAID COULD BE ONE OF 3 THINGS. I TOLD HIM I LOOKED ONLINE AND IT WAS THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK MECHANISM. HE CALLED ME THE NEXT DAY AND CONFIRMED THE PROBLEM. COST WOULD BE 900 WHICH INCLUDED A FREIGHT FEE OF 50.67. FIRST TIME EVER FOR A SHIPPING FEE AT A CAR DEALERSHIP. MILEAGE IS 60,149. *TR
WAS OUT SHOPPING AT COSTCO, CAME OUT OF STORE AND CAR WOULD NOT START. INTELLIGENT KEY INDICATOR LIGHT WAS DISPLAYING ON THE DASH. THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD NOT DEPRESS AND PUSH BUTTON WOULD NOT START THE CAR. TRIED TO MANUALLY OVERRIDE BY INSERTING THE KEY FOB IN THE SLOT - STILL WOULD NOT START. AS I WAS STRANDED HAD TO CALL HUSBAND TO COME GET ME. HAD HIM BRING OTHER KEY FOB, STILL WOULD NOT WORK. HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AS CAR IS COMPLETELY DISABLED AND WILL NOT RUN. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY NISSAN 2009 ALTIMA TODAY THE WARNING LIGHT (YELLOW KEY) CAME ON AFTER HITTING A POT HOLE, WHEN I HAD TO PRESS ON MY BRAKES TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT THE CAR KILLED AND THE RED CAR WARNING LIGHT STARTED FLASHING , WHEN THE CAR CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP I PUT IT IN PARK AND TRIED TO DEPRESS THE START BUTTON. NOTHING HAPPENED, THE CAR WAS NOT RECOGNIZING THE INTELLIGENT KEY. THE YELLOW KEY WARNING LIGHT MEANS THE STEERING MECHANISM IS FAILING SO THE INTELLIGENT KEY WON'T WORK. SO HERE I WAS SITTING IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC WITH A CAR THAT WON'T START AND I CANNOT GET OUT OF PARK TO PUT IN NEUTRAL TO PUSH OUT OF THE TRAFFIC. I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED. AFTER MUCH RESEARCH I AM FINDING THIS IS AN ISSUE KNOWN BY NISSAN THEY NO LONGER PUT THIS PART IN THE 2010 HAVE DONE RECALLS FOR THIS ON OTHER MODELS AND YEARS BUT NOT THIS ONE. THIS IS A SAFETYY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE A RECALL ARE THEY WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO GET HURT BEFORE THEY ISSUE A RECALL? *TR
HAVE HAD THIS CAR FOR 2+ YEARS NOW, LIVED IN ARIZONA AND FLORIDA. I NOW LIVE IN MARYLAND. THIS MORNING WAS SLIGHTLY COLDER THAN NORMAL, WITH SLEET COMING IN LAST NIGHT. MY WIFE ATTEMPTED TO START THE CAR THIS MORNING WHILE I WAS AWAY AT WORK AND COULD NOT GET IT TO START. LOOKING AT THE DASH INDICATORS, IT SHOWED THE ORANGE INTELLIGENT KEY LIGHT ON, AND WHEN I TRIED TO START THE CAR, THE IGNITION BUTTON WOULD NOT SWITCH OUT OF LOCK. TRIED TO GET THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL, BUT BRAKES APPEAR TO BE FIRM IN PLACE AND WILL NOT UNLOCK THE SHIFTER OUT OF PARK. LOOKED ONLINE FOR A FEW SOLUTIONS, BUT NONE HAVE WORKED SO FAR (UNHOOKING BATTERY, MOVING THE STEERING COLUMN). CALLED THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP NEAR HERE AND THEY WANT ME TO TOW IT IN BEFORE THEY CAN EVEN GUESS AT THE CAUSE (WHICH I WOULD HAVE NO ISSUE WITH IF THIS WAS AN UNCOMMON THING, BUT THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS OF THIS ONLINE, MOST POINTING TO THE SAME THING: A SHODDY PART THAT I NEED TO PAY $500 PLUS LABOR TO REPLACE ). EVENTUALLY THIS WILL HAVE TO GET FIXED, BUT WHAT IS MOST DISHEARTENING IS THE FACT THAT THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED ANYWHERE AND LEFT MY WIFE STRANDED FOR SOME TIME. I JUST LUCKED OUT AND IT WAS SITTING AT HOME. MILEAGE IS ~21K. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE KEY-LESS ENTRY SYSTEM FAILED AND THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE STARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED. THE FAILURE WAS LOCATED AT THE STEERING LOCK SYSTEM AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE KEY-LESS COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS, THE DASH READ " NO KEY". EVEN THOUGH HE TRIED THE SPARE KEY AND TRIED TO JUMP START THE BATTERY, ALL ATTEMPTS FAILED. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER IT WAS NOT A WEAR AND TEAR PROBLEM, AND IT WAS NOTHING THAT HE DID OR DIDN'T DO TO CREATE THE PROBLEM. UPDATED 03/14/13 ...UPDATED 04-03-13 *BF UPDATED 04/12/2013 *JS
