While driving on the highway at a speed around 65 mph, the traffic suddely stopped ahead, so hard braking was performed and the car came to a complete stop, and afterwards the vehicle didn't respond to any gas pedal input for few seconds. I took the vehicle to my local Nissan dealership for check up, but they claim the vehicle drives normal. Knowing that this generation of Nissan Altimas has defective transmissions and a class action lawsuit was settled with an extension of transmission warranty for 2 years or 24,000 miles. Thank you

Moments car will not accelerate after stepping on gas pedal till one completely steps on it all the way down after coming to a stop. Car will roll first then jerk to accelerate after pressing gas pedal down fully. Notice the issue happens when car gets too hot from frequent stops. Had transmission flushed and it solved the issue for a bit but began again recently.

The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall for the transmission failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. My teenage daughter drives this car daily and last week upon traveling to work on the highway the RPMs jumped and her car lost acceleration and she wasn’t able to pick the speed back up. She was losing power. The car was shuddering when she was accelerating and taking off and it was jerking with gear shifting. She was almost slammed into from behind when this happened. Dealership is telling us we need a new transmission. We purchased the car in 2016 and Jan 2017 we had the transmission computer module reprogrammed at the dealership, per Nissan recommendation.
Transmission is out and the car only has 139,000 miles on it. I'm told the cost to replace the transmission is $4,000 on average. I'm told that mechanics are seeing major issues with the CVT transmission. What can be done to help consumers with this issue during these troubling economic times?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE AT A COMPLETE STOP, THE VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY HESITATED TO ACCELERATE WHILE DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AN UNKNOWN WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ONCE WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED TO THE FLOORBOARD FOR THE VEHICLE TO RESPOND, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE AT AN UNSAFE, HIGH RATE OF SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE PLACE OF PURCHASE BUT THE CONTACT WAS THEN REFERRED TO ANOTHER INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR ASSISTANCE. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE WITH A DEFECT WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO AN AUTHORIZED NISSAN DEALER TO ENSURE THAT THE REPAIR WOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE CONTACT HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO STATE LINE NISSAN (10401 MADISON AVE, KANSAS CITY, MO 64114) WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE AND REFUSED TO SERVICE IT UNDER WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,148.

THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 116,000.

Nissan refused to pay for transmission of $5,221.38 replacement they should have replaced it due to their crappy cvt design and I have made multiple phone calls and they said we can’t help you.
MY 2015 NISSAN ALTIMA'S TRANSMISSION JUST WENT OUT AT A MERE 95,000 MILES. I JUST HAD ALL THE TIRES AND BRAKES REPAIRED READY TO GO FOR INSPECTION AND THE TRANSMISSION RANDOMLY FAILED WHILE MAKING A DELIVERY FOR UBER EATS. THE VEHICLE JUST STARTED STALLING OUT AFTER STOPPING AND GOT WORSE FROM THERE. NO WARNING LIGHTS OR ANYTHING IT JUST WON'T SWITCH GEARS. I TURNED ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS AND WENT HOME AND IT WOULDN'T GO ABOVE 50, I'M LUCKY I EVEN MADE IT HOME. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE CVT TRANSMISSION I HAD LOOKED AT 3 YEARS AGO AFTER SOMETHING SIMILAR HAPPENED AND I SAW A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT RELATED TO THIS BUT NOW I AM OUT THE REPAIRS ON THE BRAKES AND TIRES AND STUCK WITHOUT A VEHICLE AND I RELY ON UBER EATS. I THINK I GOT SOLD A LEMON. EVER CAR ME OR EVERYONE I KNOW HAD WENT UNTIL EASILY 200-250K MILES BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION WENT ON OLDER VEHICLES; NOW A "NEWER" VEHICLE GOES OUT UNDER 100K? THAT'S WHY THERE'S A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT OUT FOR THIS AND I REALLY WISH I COULD HAVE GOTTEN IN ON IT BECAUSE NOW I'M OUT THE COST OF REPAIRS, I CAN'T DO MY JOB WITHOUT A CAR, AND I'M STUCK WITH THE BILL FOR A CAR THAT DOESN'T WORK SO I'M JUST OUT THAT MONEY.

TRANSMISSION FAILURE NOT COVERED UNDER RECALL BECAUSE IT IS OVER 84,000 MILES
DRIVING DOWN THE US23/119 INTERSTATE NEAR PIKEVILLE, KY THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STARTED DECELERATING FROM 60 MPH AND WOULD NO LONGER ALLOW ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE SPEED KEPT DECREASING UNTIL IT WAS GOING LESS THAN 20 MPH AND TH DRIVER HAD TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER A TOW TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP, THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED TO BE A FAULTY TRANSMISSION. THE DANGER WAS IT OCCURRED SO SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WITH NO WARNING AND VEHICLES EASILY COULD HAVE COLLIDED WITH OUR VEHICLE. UPON LEARNING OF THE REPAIR NEEDED I SEARCHED FOR OTHER SIMILAR ISSUES WITH THE NISSAN ALTIMA. I FOUND THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT SETTLEMENT FOR 2013-16 VEHICLES DUE TO FAULTY TRANSMISSION. THE SUIT SETTLED WITH AN EXTENSION OF THE WARRANTY BY 24 MONTHS OR 24,000 MILES. HOWEVER, THIS RESOLUTION, IN MY OPINION, IS NOT SUFFICIENT TO PROTECT THE CONSUMERS FROM PAYING OFTEN IN EXCESS OF $3000 FOR A REPAIR AND THE RISK OF LIFE WHILE DRIVING A KNOWN FAULTY PRODUCT. NISSAN SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO INCREASE THE WARRANTY PERIOD TO BE MORE TIED TO THE LIFE OF A TRANSMISSION AND PROTECT CONSUMERS OF POTENTIAL INJURIES DUE TO THEIR KNOWN FAULTY PRODUCT.

I LEASED THIS VEHICLE IN 2015 AND PURCHASED IT IN 2018 WITH 60003 MILES. I BEGAN EXPERIENCING A LOSS OF ACCELERATION FROM A STOP AT ABOUT 80K MILES, IT HAPPENED INTERMITTENTLY A FEW TIMES OVER THE NEXT YEAR. MY VEHICLE JUST BROKE 100K MILES, THE ISSUE HAS BECOME MUCH MORE FREQUENT IN THE LAST MONTH, WHEN PULLING OUT ACROSS TRAFFIC, WHEN STARTING FROM A STOP LIGHT OR SIGN. THE VEHICLE HAS LITTLE TO NO RESPONSE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS PRESSED, OR EVEN PRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. IT WILL SOMETIMES ENGAGE AFTER PUTTING THE CAR BACK INTO PARK, AND THEN BACK INTO DRIVE. OTHER TIMES IT WILL VERY SLOWLY ACCELERATE TAKING AS MUCH AS 30 SECONDS TO INCREASE 10 MPH. I DID SOME BASIC INTERNET RESEARCH AND FOUND MANY NISSAN VEHICLES WITH CVT TRANSMISSIONS HAVE ISSUES, AND SUBSEQUENT CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS. I TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER, WITH 102K MILES. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE FAULTY CVT, AND INDICATED THAT MY SPECIFIC MODEL DOES NOT HAVE ITS TRANSMISSION UNDER WARRANTY UP TO 120K MILES LIKE OTHER VEHICLES, AND THAT THE VEHICLE WARRANTY IS ONLY VALID UP TO 84K MILES. I ASKED FOR DOCUMENTATION AS I COULD NOT FIND ANY ON THE WEB DESIGNATING THIS NEW 84K MILE LIMITATION, THEY EMAILED ME AN IMAGE OF A SERVICE BULLETIN INDICATING 84K MILES AS THE LIMITATION WHERE NISSAN ACCEPTS LIABILITY FOR THIS KNOWN ISSUE. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS THE VEHICLE WILL BEGIN TO ACCELERATE AND THEN HAVE NOTHING AFTER YOU HAVE PULLED INTO TRAFFIC. LUCKILY, I HAVE NOT BEEN HIT WHILE ENTERING OR TURNING ACROSS TRAFFIC. SO IT HAPPENS WHEN STATIONARY AND IN MOTION, ON CITY STREETS AND HIGHWAYS, BOTH TURNING AND GOING STRAIGHT. *TR
CAR WILL FREQUENTLY DELAY MOVING FORWARD FROM A STOP WHEN PRESSING THE GAS. IT TAKE ABOUT 5 SECONDS FOR IT TO RESPOND. ALSO THE CAR DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY SHIFT WHEN ACCELERATING. I HAVE TO TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS FOR THE CAR TO SHIFT TO STOP THE RPMS FROM REVVING TOO HIGH. THIS WILL OCCURS WHEN TRYING TO GAIN SPEED FROM A STOP. THESE ARE BOTH SAFETY ISSUES BECAUSE MY CARS REACTIONARY TIME IS DELAYED OR IMPAIRED. *TR
WILL NOT ACCELERATE FROM THE START. HAS A FEW SECOND DELAY BEFORE ACCELERATION OCCURS. THIS OCCURS WHEN THE CAR IS STATIONARY AND NEED TO START ACCELERATING AT A RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. SOMETIMES I HAVE TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK, SHUT IT OFF AND RESTART IT WHILE AT A RED LIGHT.
