THE CVT TRANSMISSION IN MY MURANO WENT OUT. IT SEEMS A SHAME NISSAN WON'T STAND BY A NEW TECHNOLOGY THAT OBVIOUSLY DOESN'T WORK VERY WELL. IT IS GOING TO COST ME OVER $5,000 TO FIX. *TR
I HAVE A 2003 NISSAN MURANO W/ 88K MILES. WHEN DRIVING MY NISSAN MURANO, THERE SEEMS TO BE QUITE AN ISSUE WITH THE ACCELERATION AND THAT IT HESITATES WHEN I I STEP ON THE ACCELERATION. THE MURANO DOES NOT MOVE FORWARD FOR A FEW SECONDS, AFTER STEPPING ALMOST FULLY ON THE GAS PEDAL. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT FEELS LIKE THE CAR CATCHES BACK ON AND THEN THE CAR JOLTS FORWARD, LETTING THE CAR FINALLY MOVE. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS SPORADICLY AND ACTUALLY ON A LEFT TURN JUST YESTERDAY, (7-10-11), THE CAR JUST COMPLETELY LOST IT'S POWER. I AM GLAD NO ACCIDENT OCCURED, I WAS VERY LUCKY. I WAS ABLE TO TURN TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURN THE CAR OFF AND ON. AFTER I DID THAT I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR INTO A PARKING LOT SO I COULD HAVE MY FATHER PICK ME UP. I HAVE DEALING WITH THIS REOCCURRING ISSUE FOR A WHILE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME $100 JUST TO DIAGNOSE IT IN ORDER TO HAVE NISSAN BE INVOLVED. I HAVE TO GO ABOUT THIS WAY I WAS TOLD. AFTER DOING SOME IN-DEPTH RESEARCH ON THE WEB FOR THE 2003 NISSAN MURANOS, IT SHOWS THAT THERE ARE TONS OF THOUSANDS OF OTHER 2003 NISSAN MURANO OWNERS HAVING THE COMPLETELY SAME EXACT PROBLEM. IT IS ALSO BAFFLING TO ME & NOT FAIR THAT ALL THE NISSAN DEALERSHIPS ARE MAKING SO MUCH MONEY FROM A FLAW THEY CAUSED. I WOULD LIKE TO FILE THIS ISSUE TO BE INVESTIGATED AND RECALLED. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD ON THE ROAD FOR ALL 2003 NISSAN MURANO OWNERS, AND IT'S NOT ETHICALLY RIGHT TO LEAVE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE IN SERIOUS LIFE OR DEATH SITUATIONS. *TT
2003 MURANO PURCHASED NEW AND WELL MAINTAINED. WE DIDN'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS UNTIL ONE AFTERNOON ON OUR WAY FOR VACATION THE CAR WENT FROM 60 MPH TO 30 MPH THE RPM WERE IN THE REDLINE. TURNED MOTOR OFF AND WAITED A FEW MINUTES THEN STARTED OFF AGAIN WITH NO PROBLEM. MONTHS WENT BY AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. THE NEXT OCCURRENCE HAPPENED ON MY WAY HOME FROM A MEETING AND IT WAS THE SAME THING. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A NISSIAN DEALERSHIP AND HAD IT LOOKED AT, THEY FOUND NOTHING. ABOUT 6 MONTHS LATER THE CAR DID THE SAME THING AND I TOOK IT BACK TO SAME DEALER. THEY SAID THEY ARE NOT SURE BUT THOUGHT IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION. I HAVE NOTICED A TREND WITH 03 MURANOS AND THEY HAVE HAD COUNTLESS COMPLAINTS ABOUT MY SAME ISSUE. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL BEFORE SOME GETS KILLED. *TT
TRANSMISSION APPEARS TO BE SLIPPING. ODBII CODE IS P0840, WHICH STATES TRANSMISSION FLUID PRESSURE SENSOR/SWITCH A CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION. VEHICLE SOMETIMES RUNS AT 4-5 RPMS AT 70 MPH. OTHER TIMES YOU PRESS ON THE GAS AND NOTHING HAPPEN. THIS ESPECIALLY OCCURS GOING UP HILL, WHEN YOU ARE STOPPED AT THE BOTTOM. IF YOU HAVE A RUNNING START, IT IS NOT AS NOTICEABLE. UNSAFE, TO BE DRIVEN IN TRAFFIC. TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP PRIOR TO WARRANTY RUNNING. NO PROBLEM WAS NOTED. NOW THAT I AM 5,000 MILES OVER EXTENDED WARRANTY -- EXTENDED TO 120,000 NOW I'M TOLD I GET THE CODE ABOVE....ESTIMATE TO REPAIR IS $3400. *TR
AFTER DRIVING A WHILE IN STOP & GO TRAFFIC THE VEHICLE HESITATES AND DOESN'T ACCELERATE WHEN YOU DEPRESS THE GAS PEDAL. THEN AFTER A FEW SECONDS THE ENGINE REVS UP AND THE VEHICLE LURCHES FORWARD AND SOMETIMES STALLS IN TRAFFIC. ONCE THE VEHICLE STALLS, IT TAKES A LONG TIME BEFORE YOU CAN RESTART THE ENGINE. THIS SITUATION HAPPENS ALMOST EVERY TIME I'M IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, WHICH IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS ON THE FREEWAYS AND WHEN MAKING LEFT TURNS AT INTERSECTIONS. I'VE WORKED WITH MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP BUT THEY HAVEN'T COME UP WITH A SOLUTION, AND IT'S BECOMING VERY EXPENSIVE FOR ME TO HAVE THEM RESEARCH THE PROBLEM AND NOT FIND A FIX. *TR
CAR MADE HORRIBLE GRINDING NOISE; STOPPED WORKING. TOWED TO POK NISSAN AND UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY THEY REPLACED TRANSFER CASE AND REAR DIFFERENTIAL. NOW HERE IT IS BARELY ONE YEAR LATER AND JUST OVER 12000 MILES AND THE TRANSFER CASE IS LEAKING AGAIN. WAS TOLD BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND THAT NISSAN SHOULD MAKE GOOD. HAVING REVIEWED SEVERAL COMPLAINTS FILED WITH NHTSA OF SAME PROBLEMS I FOUND IT UNBELIEVABLE THAT NISSA FAILS TO CONSIDER THIS AS A RECALL OR ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY. *TT
FEBRUARY 2010 I WAS DRIVING MY 2003 MURANO DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND ALL OF A SUDDEN AS I WAS PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL AND IT WASN'T RESPONDING PROPERLY BEGAN TO HESITATE BUT I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT TO THE NISSAN DEALER FOR REPAIR AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS A SENSOR MALFUNCTION SO IT WAS REPLACED (AT MY EXPENSE $1100). THEN IN APRIL 2010 DRIVING DOWN THE STREET I HEARD A THUMP AND AS I PUSHED THE GAS AND THEN THE CAR BEGAN TO DRAG AND HESITATE. I MADE IT SAFELY TO A BANK PARKING LOT WHERE I CALLED A TOW TRUCK TO TOW IT TO THE NISSAN DEALER AGAIN. THIS TIME THEY SAY IT WAS SOME SENSOR THAT DEALT WITH THE THROTTLE AND A CASE. AGAIN AT MY EXPENSE ($3200). SO IN 2 MONTHS I SPENT $4500 AND AT THAT TIME I WAS TOLD I SHOULD BE OK. WELL IT IS NOW APRIL 2011 AND I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN AND THIS TIME IT STOPPED WHILE I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK. NOW I HAD IT TOWED TO MY HOUSE WHICH ISS WERE IT SITS BECAUSE I WAS TOLD SINE I WENT MORE THAN 12K MILES IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. SO I NOW HAVE A CAR THAT IS USELESS UNLESS I SPEND ANOTHER $4500 TO FIX IT. UNEXCEPTABLE!!!!!!! I AM LUCKY I WAS NOT INJURED BUT THIS NEEDS TO BE LOOKED AT SOON OR SOMEONE CAN BE SERIOUSLY INJURED. *TR
MY 2003 NISSAN MURANO REQUIRED THE CVT TRANSMISSION TO BE REPLACED TWICE DUE TO FAILURE, AT 55K AND 95K MILES. *TR
I HAVE A RECURRING PROBLEM THAT WHEN I AM IN TRAFFIC AND I PUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL, THERE IS NO RESPONSE AND THEN THE CAR SURGES FORWARD. I WAS CHANGING LANES AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THE NEXT DAY I BROUGHT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE VALVE BODY AND GASKET. THEY SAID THE EXTENDED 120,000 WARRANTY ON THE CVT TRANSMISSON WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR. I CALLED NISSAN CUSTOMER SUPPORT, AND AFTER INVESTIGATING THEY AGREED THE REPAIR WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. I HAVE HEARD SO MANY COMPLAINTS THAT THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM THAT I JUST HAD THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED. I WAS TOO WORRIED ABOUT THE SAFETY HAZARD. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM , THAT SHOULD NOT HAPPEN AT THIS MILEAGE. I ALSO HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACED AND ALSO THE FUEL PUMP, JUST AFTER IT TURNED 100,000.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE NJ TURNPIKE THEN ALL OF THE POWER WHEN I PUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS DISAPPEARED. ALMOST FEELS LIKE THE CAR IS IN NEUTRAL. WAS LUCKY I WASN'T HIT FROM BEHIND MY OTHER CARS SINCE IT WENT FROM 60 MPH TO A 5 MPH WITHOUT ANY WARNING. WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO SIDE OF THE ROAD BUT THEN IT WOULDN'T START AGAIN. HAD CAR TOWED TO MY MECHANIC. NOW I AM READING ONLINE ABOUT OTHERS WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM WITHOUT ANY SOLUTIONS TO A PROBLEM THAT NISSAN WAS AWARE OF. GUESS PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE ANY ACTION IS TAKEN. *TR
THERE ARE TWO INCIDENCES. THE FIRST ONE WAS THE TRANSFER CASE WHICH COST $3500 AND THE SHOP DIDN'T KNOW WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED IT HE SAID THAT THEY JUST GO WHICH I DON'T BELIEVE THERE HAS TO BE A REASON. AND NOW ABOUT TWO MONTHS AND 2K MILES LATER THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL EXPLODED. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP AND AT A DIFFERENT SHOP SO HOPEFULLY THEY CAN FIND OUT WHAT WENT WRONG. I DID A LITTLE RESEARCH AND WAS TOLD THAT THE REAR DIFF SHOULDN'T HAVE A PROBLEM TILL AT LEAST 150,000 MILES. ALSO THE SERVICE MANUAL DOESN'T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT SERVICE OR MAINTAIN OF THE TRANSFER CASE OR THE REAR DIFF. BOTH SHOULD BE COVERED UP UNTIL 100,000 MILES. AND ON GOD KNOWS HOW MUCH IT WILL COST TO FIX THIS NEW PROBLEM. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER NISSAN.
THE TRANSFER CASE BLEW UP, BROKEN TEETH, WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY. COST OF REPAIR WAS $3500. NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY OR RECALL, DESPITE THIS BEING A KNOWN ISSUE WITH NISSAN MURANOS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MPH, SUDDENLY WE HEARD VERY LOUD 'BUM, BUM, BUM' LIKE NOISE. WE STOPPED AT NEAR GAS STATION, AND THE OIL APPEARED BENEATH THE REAR OF THE CAR. THE MECHANIC TOLD US THAT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL UNIT IS SPLIT OPEN IN HALF. WE WERE TOLD THAT IF THAT WOULD HAPPEN AT HIGH SPEED THE FLYING REAR DIFFERENTIAL DEBRIS COULD PUNCTURE THE NEARBY GAS TANK.
UPON NORMAL ACCELERATION FROM A STOP SIGN ONTO A MAJOR ROAD WITH A 35 MPH SPEED LIMIT, THERE WAS A LOUD "POP" AND THE CAR LOST POWER AND COULD ONLY MOVE AT A SLOW CRAWL TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. THE CAR COULD REV, BUT VERY LITTLE POWER WAS GETTING TO THE WHEELS. THERE WAS A SMALL OIL SPILL UNDER THE REAR AXLE OF THE CAR. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO OUR MECHANIC (WE DID NOT TAKE IT TO A NISSAN DEALER BECAUSE WE THOUGHT THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY) AND THE POLICE DEMANDED SPEEDY DRY TO BE PUT DOWN TO COVER THE SMALL OIL SPILL, WHICH COST 45 DOLLARS AND WAS NOT COVERED BY INSURANCE. THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (CVT) AND ITS CASING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AT A COST OF $4922. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ONLINE, WE LEARNED THAT NISSAN AUTOMATICALLY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FROM 5 YEARS OR 60,000 MILES TO 10 YEARS AND 120,000 MILES, HOWEVER, WE RECEIVED NO NOTIFICATION FROM NISSAN THAT THE WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED, NOR DID WE HEAR FROM THEM THAT CVT FAILURE WAS COMMON AMONGST THIS MODEL YEAR, AS IS APPARENT FROM THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS SIMILAR TO OURS. WE PERFORMED ALL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE ON THE CAR, INCLUDING REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION FLUID EVERY 30,000 MILES. WE HAVE REACHED OUT TO NISSAN TO SEE IF THEY WILL REIMBURSE US FOR THE REPAIR COSTS AS PART OF THEIR EXTENDED WARRANTY AND WE ARE WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM THEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP. ONCE THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE, IT ACCELERATED AT A VERY SLOW RATE OF SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP, WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
I HAVE A 2003 NISSAN MURANO. I HAVE 115K MILES AND FOR THE 5 MONTHS, I'VE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM ALL OTHERS HAVE REPORTED, PRESS THE GAS AND THE CAR DOESN'T MOVE FOR A FEW SECONDS THEN JERKS FORWARD. COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS WHEN IN TRAFFIC AND TRYING TO CHANGE LANES. IN FACT, I ONLY DISCOVERED THIS PROBLEM WHEN I WAS IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC LATELY. I TOOK IT TO GOODYEAR COMPANY, THEY CHARGED ME $69 TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND TOLD ME IT'S THE TRANSMISSION. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE SINCE I AM 100% SURE NISSAN KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BUT IS IGNORING IT. THANK YOU. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 30 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED A LOUD, DRAGGING METAL NOISE FROM THE FRONT END. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC THAT LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE TRANSMISSION TRANSFER CASE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR BECAUSE OF THE VEHICLE AGE AND MILEAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
I OWN A 2003 NISSAN MURANO. LAST AUGUST IT BEGAN LOSING POWER WHILE DRIVING. IT IS LIKE THE CAR IS BEING THROWN INTO 1ST GEAR. THIS HAS HAPPENED 12-18 TIMES OVER THE LAST 4 MONTHS. THE CRAZY THING ABOUT THESE INCIDENTS IS THAT NO WARNING LIGHTS SHOW UP ON THE DASH NOR DOES THE CAR GIVE YOU ANY CODES INDICATING THAT ANYTHING WENT WRONG. TWO MONTHS AGO I TOOK IT TO RICK HILL NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM WHAT WAS HAPPENING. HE HAD THE CAR A WEEK AND DROVE IT 66 MILES AND COULDN'T GET THE CAR TO DUPLICATE WHAT WAS HAPPENING TO ME. UNFORTUNATELY, THEY WONT WORK ON THE CAR UNLESS IS HAS A CODE SHOWING UP TELLING THEM WHAT IS WRONG. THIS PAST WEEK, I ALMOST RAN OVER MY FAMILY AS I WAS WAITING ON THEM TO COME OUT OF A STORE. I PROCEEDED TO DRIVE UP TO THE STORE TO PICK THEM UP WHEN THE CAR SURGED AND THE ENGINE STARTED RACING. I HAD TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES AND THROW THE CAR IN PARK TO GET IT TO STOP. THE ENGINE AND RPM'S WERE STILL RACING AND 4,000 RPMS. NO CODES WERE THROWN AND NO LIGHTS ON THE DASH AGAIN. 20 MINUTES LATER AS WE WERE COMING HOME, THE CAR LOST POWER AS IF THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED INTO FIRST GEAR AND WE CREEPED ALL THE HOME AT 5 MPH, WITH ME HAVING THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR. THIS TIME THERE WERE CODES, BUT WHEN THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF IT WOULD NOT RESTART. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE IPDM. 825 DOLLARS FOR THE FIX. 51 MILES LATER THE CAR SLIPS AGAIN AND ACTS LIKE IT IS THROWN INTO FIRST GEAR. NO LIGHTS, NO CODES. AFTER READING MANY COMPLAINTS ON THE CVT TRANSMISSION IN THE 2003 MURANO I HAVE NO DOUBT THIS IS THE PROBLEM. THIS DEFECT HAS PUT MY FAMILY IN MANY DANGEROUS SITUATIONS IN THE PAST YEAR. NISSAN INCREASED THE WARRANTY FOR THIS TRANSMISSION TO 120,000 MILES. THIS IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. I TOOK MINE IN WITH 118,500 BUT THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG,BECAUSE THEY HAD NO CODES SHOWING A PROBLEM. NOW WITH 128,000 I AM SCREWED. THIS NEEDS TO BE A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT OR A RECALL ON THE CVT TRANSMISSION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 10 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY HAD MALFUNCTIONED AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED FIVE YEARS LATER AND THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND TO ACCELERATOR WHILE IN GEAR WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM STOP. ENGINE WOULD NOT REV, BUT WAS RUNNING. VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER. DEALER ADVISED CVT TRANSMISSION COMPONENT CALLED VALVE BODY HAD AN INTERNAL FAILURE AND TCM WOULD NEED REPROGRAMMING. VEHICLE HAS 126700 MILES, PURCHASED NEW. CVT WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED BY NISSAN FROM ORIGINAL 5 YEARS 60000 TO 10 YEARS 120000. THIS VEHICLE'S MILEAGE IS BEYOND THIS EXTENDED WARRANTY PERIOD. HOWEVER, MAJOR COMPONENT FAILURE OF CVT IS RECOGNIZED BY NISSAN BY VIRTUE OF EXTENSION OF ORIGINAL WARRANTY. THE EXTENSION IS INADEQUATE AND NISSAN SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO EXTEND FOR LONGER TIME AND MILEAGE. MECHANICS HAVE ADVISED THAT VALVE BODY FAILURES IN TRANSMISSIONS ARE VERY RARE. *TR
I JUST PURCHASED A NISSAN MURANO YESTERDAY AND AFTER JUST 10 MINUTES OR SO OF DRIVING I NOTICED THAT THE ACCELERATION IS NOT EXACTLY IN SYNC WITH MY PRESSURE ON THE PEDAL. THE PREVIOUS OWNER ALSO COMPLAINED OF THIS TO THE NISSAN DEALER HE BOUGHT IT FROM. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS THE AIR INTAKE AND REPLACED IT AT NO CHARGE. SHORTLY AFTER MY INITIAL DRIVE IT DID NOT ACCELERATE EVEN WHEN THE GAS PEDAL WAS TO THE FLOOR. TODAY I ENTERED A BUSY INTERSECTION TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN AND AFTER THE ON COMING TRAFFIC I PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR BUT NO RESPONSE RPMS WERE STUDY BELOW 1000 LIKE IT WAS STILL IDLING. AFTER SEVERAL FUTILE ATTEMPTS PRESSING ON THE GAS PEDAL I PUT THE CAR IN PARK THEN BACK TO DRIVE HIT THE GAS BUT AGAIN NO ACCELERATION. AT THIS TIME I AM IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION UNDER THE RED LIGHT. THERE IS ANOTHER CAR BEHIND ME THAT IS STUCK IN THE INTERSECTION AS WELL WHICH MAKES A HARD LEFT TO GET AROUND AND BARELY AVOIDS AN ACCIDENT. NOW WITH CARS ALL AROUND ME I BECOME ALMOST FRANTIC AND I AM A 52 YEAR OLD MAN WITH PLENTY OF DRIVING EXPERIENCE AND RARELY PANIC. I DECIDED TO SHUT OFF THE CAR AND RESTART IT (YES IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION UNDER A RED LIGHT BLOCKING TRAFFIC I TURN OFF THE CAR AND RESTART IT). IT TOOK OFF IMMEDIATELY. TONIGHT I READ A NISSAN FORUM WITH MANY OTHER NISSAN MURANO OWNERS DESCRIBING SIMILAR INCIDENTS. THIS IS A VERY VERY SERIOUS FLAW IN THE ENGINEERING UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE SHOULD AN AUTOMOBILE NOT ACCELERATE WHEN THE PEDAL IS PRESSED WITHOUT SOME PRECURSOR EVENT TO WARN THE OPERATOR. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM AND THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. I WILL CONTACT MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALER TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT AND ISSUE A COMPLAINT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. THERE WAS AN UNKNOWN FLUID LEAKING FROM THE VENTS AND SMOKE EMITTING FROM THE TRANSFER CASE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE TRANSFER CASE WAS DEFECTIVE AND WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE CONTACT STATED SHE AUTHORIZED THE MECHANIC TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE TRANSFER CASE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND A COMPLAINT WAS FILED BUT NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 112,000.
WHEN YOU COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND THEN PRESS THE ACCELERATOR DOWN THE CAR DOES NOT MOVE INITIALLY. IF YOU HOLD THE ACCELERATOR DOWN AFTER A FEW SECONDS THE CAR WILL START TO MOVE. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS AFTER DRIVING THE CAR FOR ABOUT 20-30 MINS. IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. THE NEXT DAY EVERYTHING WORKS LIKE IT SHOULD. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A NISSAN DEALER AND AT FIRST THEY COULD NOT EVEN FIND A PROBLEM SINCE THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE WHAT I DESCRIBED. THE SECOND TIME I TOOK IT BACK THEY MANAGED TO GET A SERVICE CODE RELATED TO THE VALVE BODY ON THE TRANSMISSION. NISSAN HAS A SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUED RELATED TO THIS SITUATION, WHICH INSTRUCTS THE VALVE BODY TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1700. SINCE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN THIS DELAYED ACCELERATION WILL OCCUR IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO ENTER OR CROSS TRAFFIC WHEN IT OCCURS. *TR
IN THE FIRST QUARTER OF 2010 NISSAN EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO COVER THE FAILED CVT TRANSMISSION. THE DEALER REPLACED IT AT NO COST TO ME (NISSAN COVERED THE PARTS AND LABOR). ON FRIDAY DECEMBER 2, 2011 WHILE THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA WAS REPLACING THE LOWER OIL PAN GASKET, AND LOWER OIL COOLER HOUSING, THEY NOTICED THE TRANSFER CASE WAS STARTING TO FAIL/CRACK. INFORMED ME THAT WITHIN THE NEXT 6 TO 12 MONTHS THIS WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AND THIS IS AN 18 HOUR JOB. COST ESTIMATE IS $2,350. THEY SHOULD HAVE INFORMED ME OF THE KNOWN TRANSFER CASE PROBLEM LAST YEAR AT A MINIMUM TO SAVE THE LABOR COST. AT A MAXIMUM NISSAN SHOULD RECALL THIS KNOWN PROBLEM AND PAY FOR THE PARTS AND LABOR. *TR

CONSUMER REQUESTS REPLACEMENT AT NO COST TO HIM *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED HE WAS ASSURED HE WOULD HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH THE REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION. HOWEVER, WITHIN 21 MONTHS, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED ON THE REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION. *JB
