The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Titan. The contact stated that while driving 5-10 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed and pulsated. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Titan. The contact stated that while driving at 20 MPH, the brakes seized, causing the vehicle to rear-end another vehicle. The B-LSD and ABS warning lights were illuminated. No air bags were deployed. The contact did not sustain any injury, and medical attention was not received. Two passengers in the other vehicle later sustained bodily injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicles involved in the collision were able to drive away from the scene. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the incorrect ABS module was installed and that the ABS module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to the delta stroke sensor malfunctioning. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 226,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN TITAN. THE CONTACT HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. HE NOTICED THAT THE SEAMS NEAR THE ROTORS AND THE PLATES WERE LEAKING GEAR OIL, WHICH CAUSED HIM TO CONSTANTLY ADD A QUART OF GEAR OIL EACH TIME THE FAILURE OCCURRED. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC ALSO DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL PLATES AND SEALS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO PREMATURE DETERIORATION AND AN INTERNAL FRACTURING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
JUST LAST FRIDAY (03-15-2013) AFTERNOON,WHILE LOOKING OVER THE TRUCK- I DECIDED TO LOOK UNDERNEATH IT TO GIVE IT A ONCE OVER. EARLIER IN THE WEEK I HAD NOTICED THE BRAKE PEDAL KIND OF SPONGY(ESPECIALLY IN THE MORNING). I THOUGHT THERE MIGHT BE A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. TO MY SURPRISE I FOUND THAT BOTH REAR AXLES WERE SPLATTERED WITH FLUID(AXLE GREASE).I HAD READ THAT THIS WAS A PROBLEM WITH EARLY MODEL TITANS. I WENT INTO A TITAN FORUM AND FOUND THERE WERE A LOT OF FOLKS,THAT OWNED THESE TRUCKS-HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. IN THE FORUM THERE WAS THIS VERY SITE TO REPORT THIS ISSUE.SO THUS THIS WRITING. *TR
BRAKE FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY WHILE BRAKING DUE TO TRAFFIC CONGESTION. DEALER CONFIRMED BRAKE FAILURE DUE TO COMPUTER MALFUNCTION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN TITAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, BUT THE PEDAL DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE COASTED TO A STOP. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE BRAKE, SLIP, AND VDC LIGHTS WERE INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATING ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHERE IT WAS INSPECTED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED A SOFTWARE UPDATE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,067 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 54,000.
LEAVING WORK AT 5:00 PM. STARTED TRUCK AND GOT TO STOP SIGN EVERYTHING WAS FINE. TURNED LEFT ONTO MAJOR STREET AND WHEN APPROACHING FIRST STOP LIGHT BRAKE PEDDLE WENT ALMOST TO FLOOR. IT FELT REALLY SPONGY AND MADE A GRINDING NOISE. HAD TO RUN UP ON CURB TO AVOID GOING INTO INTERSECTION. CAR DID COME TO A STOP AND I NOTICED BRAKE LIGHT WAS ON. I TURNED TRUCK OFF AND STARTED AGAIN. BRAKES WERE BACK. DID A SEARCH FOR THIS DESCRIPTION OF FAILURE AND FOUND SEVERAL THREADS WITH TONS OF TRUCKS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. IT SEEMS TO BE A BAD DELTA SENSOR. NISSAN KNOWS ABOUT THIS BUT DOES NOTHING. HOPEFULLY IT DOESN'T TAKE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT FOR THEM TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. JUST SEARCH FOR NISSAN TITAN DELTA SENSOR AND YOU WILL SEE ALL THE VEHICLES WITH PROBLEMS. I WAS REFERRED TO THIS SITE BY NISSAN. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKES AND ONE WEEK LATER THE BRAKES STARTED TO PULSATE WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT TO BRING THE VEHICLE BACK IF THE FAILURE PERSIST. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY RISK WHILE DRIVING WHEN THE BRAKES ARE PULSATING. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER TO FILE A COMPLAINT AND THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO TAKE THE COMPLAINT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SENSOR MAY HAVE CAUSED THE BRAKES TO MALFUNCTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000. WHILE DRIVING MY 2004 NISSAIN TITAN CREW CAB PICKUP , I NOTICE THAT MY DASH BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON. I APPLY THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR. I THEN PULL OVER AND TURN THE TRUCK OFF AND THEN BACK ON AND NOTICED THE LIGHT OFF AND A STRONG BRAKE PEDAL AGAIN. I NOW NOTICE THAT THIS PROBLEM IS HAPPENING ATLEAST 2 TO 3 TIMES A DAY. UPON START UP PARKING BRAKE LIGHT ON DASH ILLUMINATED AND REMAINED ON, HOWEVER THE PARKING BRAKE WAS NOT SET. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION THE BRAKES BECAME INEFFECTIVE. THE PEDAL WAS SOFT AND THERE WAS A PULSING SENSATION. IF I HAD NOT BEEN GOING LESS THAN 5MPH I AM UNSURE IF I COULD HAVE STOPPED, I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP AND PLACE THE VEHICLE IN PARK. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED ALL LIGHTS AND PROBLEMS DISAPPEARED AND BRAKES FUNCTIONED OK. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL DEALER AND THEY LOCATED A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND/OR MASTER CYLINDER. *TR
I WAS PULLING OUT OF PARKING LOT AT LOW SPEED AND THE BRAKE PEDAL FELL TO THE FLOOR AND I HEARD A GRINDING/CLICKING NOISE. THE TRUCK WAS ALMOST UNABLE TO STOP BEFORE ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I PULLED BACK INTO THE PARKING LOT AND INSPECTED THE BRAKE ASSEMBLIES AND MADE SURE THERE WAS FLUID IN THE MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR. I CYCLED THE IGNITION SYSTEM A FEW TIMES AND STARTED BACK UP. THE BRAKES ON MY 2004 NISSAN TITAN HAVE BEEN REPLACED 3 TIMES IN THE LAST 1.5 YEARS. NISSAN ADMITS THERE IS A PROBLEM, AND PROVIDED AN UPGRADE KIT THE CONSUMERS HAVE TO PAY FOR. I HAVE THE UPGRADE KIT THE LAST 3 TIMES THE BRAKES WERE CHANGED, AND THEY STILL GO BAD. THIS MORNING WITHOUT WARNING THE CALIPER DOVE IN THE ROTOR, AND I NEARLY WENT' THRU AN INTERSECTION. PULLING OUT OF MY APARTMENT'S PARKING LOT WHEN STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN BY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AS IF IT HAD NO PRESSURE. AS THE PEDAL HIT THE FLOOR A LOUD GRINDING SOUND CAME FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I PUT THE TRUCK IN PARK, TURNED IT OFF, STARTED IT BACK UP AND EVERYTHING WORKED OK. WENT DOWN THE STREET A LITTLE MORE AND BAM HAPPENED AGAIN, THIS TIME IN TRAFFIC. IF AN INEXPERIENCED DRIVER HAS THIS ISSUE THIS CAN AND WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO PROPERTY OR PEOPLE. *TR

HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND HE WAS INFORMED THAT HE NEEDED NEW ROTORS. HE STATED THAT THE ROTORS WERE REPLACED ON JUNE 28, 2005. HE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER HOWEVER THEY DID NOT OFFER HIM ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

THE FAILURE RECURRED A FEW MORE TIMES AND THE MANUFACTURER ISSUED AND UNKNOWN BRAKE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR. HE STATED THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER APPROXIMATELY SEVEN TIMES FOR THE BRAKE FAILURE WHERE THE ROTORS WOULD BE RESURFACED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 49,000.
I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN TITAN KING CAB. I HAVE ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS HAD MAJOR BRAKE RELATED ISSUES. YOU ARE PROBABLY WELL AWARE THAT THE TITAN HAD SOME INITIAL PROBLEMS WITH THEIR BRAKES IN THE EARLY MODELS THAT WERE SOLVED. HOWEVER, THE DEALER HAS FAILED TO SOLVE MORE SERIOUS PROBLEMS I AND MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD. IN RANDOM SITUATIONS, APPLYING THE BRAKES LIGHTLY AND NORMALLY, THE BRAKES BASICALLY FAIL TO OPERATE NORMALLY AND WHEN THE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED IT OFFERS NONE OF THE NORMAL RESISTANCE AND INSTEAD EASILY GOES STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR, EMMEDIATELY THIS LOCKS THE BRAKES AND CAUSES THE TRUCK TO COME TO A RAPID AND IMMEDIATE LURCHING AND SLIDING STOP. SO FAR, MOST TIMES, I HAVE BE ABLE TO FEEL A SUBTLE CHANGE IN THE PEDAL IN TIME TO CHANGE HOW I APPLY THE BRAKES, BUT A FEW TIMES I HAVE BEEN SLAMMED AGAINST THE SEAT BELT AND NEARLY HIT MY FACE ON THE STEERING WHEEL. OFTEN THE PROBLEM IS IMMEDUATELY PRECEDED BY A SMALL SOUND THAT SOUNDS LIKE A SPRING COMING UNDONE.( I KNOW THIS MAY SOUND A BIT REDICULOUS, BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE THE SOUND A SPRING WOULD MAKE IN A CARTOON..."BOING"). EVERY TIME THIS HAPPENS THE BREAKS WILL REMAIN IN THE SAME STATE, MUSHY AND CAUSING AN IMMEDIATE LOCK UP UNTIL I STOP AND TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN. THE BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON WHEN THIS HAPPENS AND GOES OFF AFTER TURNING OFF THE IGNITION. EVERYTHING WILL BE NORMAL AFTER RESTARTING AND THE PROBLEM OFTEN WON'T RESEURFACE FOR WEEKS OR MONTHS. IT HAPPENS TO ME ABOUT EVERY 45-60 DAYS AND I CAN NOT REPRODUCE IT. WHEN THIS FIRST HAPPEND I TOOK IT TO MY DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY FIXED IT, BUT THEY DID NOT. MY 2004 NISSAN TITAN HAS BEEN HAVING PERIODIC COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE WITHOUT WARNING DURING NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. THIS HAS OCCURRED 7-8 TIMES. STARTED ABOUT 25,000 MI, CURRENTLY AT 34,000 MI. TOOK TO DEALER ON 8-1-09, DEALER REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER, SAID IT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE ABS AND VDC CONTROLS AND THAT THIS WOULD FIX IT, YESTERDAY ON 8-22-09 IT HAPPENED AGAIN AFTER NORMAL DRIVING AS I WAS EXITING THE FREEWAY, VERY SCARY. WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURS, IF YOU SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTART, THE BRAKES ARE BACK AND SEEM TO BE WORKING FINE, THEY CAN GO FOR A WHILE WITH NO PROBLEM, THEN ONE DAY THEY WILL JUST NOT BE THERE, PUMPING THE BRAKE GIVES LITTLE BRAKE EFFECT AND A NOISE EMITS FROM UNDER THE HOOD, A STRANGE SOUND I HAVE NEVER HEARD COME FROM A VEHICLE BEFORE, BRAKES WILL GO TO FLOOR AND WILL NOT STOP IF HELD, HAVE TO PUMP LIKE CRAZY AND RESORT TO EMERGENCY STOPPING METHODS SUCH AS E-BRAKE, DOWNSHIFT AND RUBBING TIRES AGAINST CURB OR DRIVING INTO SOFT SAND TO STOP VEHICLE. I WENT ONLINE AND FOUND THIS IS HAPPENING TO MANY OTHER PEOPLE WITH TITANS AND ARMADAS (SAME EXACT VEHICLE MECHANICALLY). AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET WITH NISSAN TITAN WEB FORUMS I FOUND THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE WITH TITAN'S HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEMS. FROM WHAT I GATHER IT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS THE BRAKE BOOSTER AT FAULT. ALSO I FOUND OUT THAT ONCE YOU TURN OFF THE IGNITION THE SYSTEM RESETS ITSELF AND EVERYTHING SEEMS TO BE BACK TO NORMAL. I THINK NISSAN NEEDS TO LOOK INTO THE BRAKE BOOSTER PROBLEMS THAT PEOPLE ARE HAVING AND RECTIFY THE PROBLEM. NISSAN WANTS $850 OR MORE TO REPLACE THE BRAKE BOOSTER (TRUCK OUT OF WARRANTY). MY GIRLFRIEND OWNS A 2004 NISSAN TITAN. ABOUT A YEAR AGO THE BRAKING SYSTEM STARTED FAILING, SO I PURCHASED NEW BRAKES AND NO CHANGE. NISSAN CLAIMS THERE IS NO PROBLEMS BUT WHEN WE PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL IT DOESN'T WANT TO STOP. WE CAN PUMP THEM A COUPLE OF TIMES THEN IT'LL START TO STOP. NISSAN WON'T EVEN TAKE A LOOK AT IT AND THE ONLY REPLY WE GET FROM THEM IS "IT NEEDS NEW BRAKES, OR THE BRAKE PADS ARE ON BACKWARDS."
