TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 NISSAN VERSA. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE ENGINE MOUNT WAS FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
I HAD MY MECHANIC CHECK MY CAR AFTER I HEARD NOISE/VIBRATION COMING FROM THE CAR WHEN STOPPED AT A LIGHT. IT TURNS OUT THE MUFFLER IS RUSTING FROM THE MANIFOLD BACK: INCLUDING CATALYTIC CONVERTER, CENTER AND REAR MUFFLER, HARDWARE AND GASKETS AND THE HEAT SHIELD NEEDS SECURED. THE CAR IS JUST OVER 50,000 MILES, NOT A LOT AND NISSAN SHOULD BE REPLACING THIS FREE OF CHARGE BUT I WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. THIS IS A DANGER AND THEY SHOULD BUILD THEIR PARTS BETTER TO HANDLE ROAD SALT IN THE WINTER MONTHS.
HEARD NOISE COMING FROM ENGINE. WENT TO DEALERSHIP. CAR IS 4.5 YEARS OLD...NOT EVEN PAID OFF YET BUT ABOUT 4,000 MILES OVER WARRANTY. I WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR ALMOST 31/2 HOURS. THEY HAD TO DISMANTLE MY WHOLE ENGINE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. I WAS EVEN CHARGED AN HOUR OF LABOR BECAUSE IT TOOK THEM SO LONG TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE NOISE WAS. FINALLY, THE SERVICE MANAGER, CAME OUT TO SPEAK TO ME. APPARENTLY THEY HAD DISCOVERED "PISTON SLAP" IN TWO OF MY CYLINDERS. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS NO WAY TO "FIX" THE PROBLEM OTHER THAN REPLACING THE ENGINE. HE SAID HE DID AN ESTIMATE ON THE PARTS AS BETWEEN THREE TO FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS....PLUS LABOR. THE MANAGER WAS VERY SYMPATHETIC TOWARDS ME AS I CRIED. HE EXPLAINED THAT SOMETIMES WITH VEHICLES YOU GET LUCKY (MY LAST VEHICLE, A CHEVY, LASTED OVER 10 YEARS....PROBABLY WOULD STILL BE RUNNING IF I HAD NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT) BUT IN THIS SITUATION I JUST DIDN'T LUCK OUT. I ASKED HOW LONG THE VEHICLE WOULD CONTINUE TO RUN. HE SAID HE COULDN'T ANSWER THAT QUESTION; HE COULDN'T PREDICT THE LIFE LEFT IN MY VEHICLE. IT WAS LIKE HE SAID MY CAR WAS JUST DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER. NO ANSWERS. I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP IN TEARS. I CERTAINLY DON'T HAVE SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS TO FIX THIS--THE CAR PROBABLY ISN'T EVEN WORTH THAT MUCH AT THIS POINT. NOW, EVERY DAY, I'M SCARED TO DRIVE MY OWN CAR. WHAT IF IT BREAKS DOWN WHEN I'M IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION? WHAT IF THE ENGINE BLOWS UP? THIS IS A MECHANICAL DEFECT IN THE CAR. NOTHING I DID WRONG AS A CONSUMER/OWNER. THIS SHOULD BE COVERED. *TR
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND TURNS OUT THE EVAPORATOR HAD A CRACK IN IT SO PAID NISSAN $1,500 TO REPLACE IT WITH A NON-GENUINE EVAPORATOR PART. THEN ABOUT SIX MONTHS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WITH HAD AC AT SPEED 4 WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. TOLD THE BLOWER MOTOR WAS BAD AND NEEDED REPLACING AT THE COST OF $1,500 TO DO IT. REFUSED THE WORK AND RAN BLOWER MOTOR ON A/C AT SPEED 3 FOR ABOUT A MONTH THEN AFTER THAT SEEMED TO WORK AT SPEED 4 AS WELL WITH NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON. I THOUGHT IT WAS PROBABLY THE SPEED RHEOSTAT LIKE HAPPENED TO ME ON A FORD I HAD COST OF ITEM $25 AND DID IT MYSELF. THE RHEOSTAT MUST HAVE BEEN STUCK AND BECOME UNSTUCK AND I WOULD HAVE PAID FOR A REPAIR THAT WAS NOT NEEDED AND BEEN SCAMMED. *TR
MY CAR STARTED KNOCKING WHEN I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC I WAS TOLD MY MOTOR WAS REBUILT AND NOW THE OIL PUMP IS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY SO ITS CAUSING MY MOTOR TO KNOCK. *TR
WHEN I WAS DRIVING BACK HOME FROM CLASS APPROX 11:45 AM, I TURNED ON THE AIR CONDITIONED AND THE CAR SLOWED DOWN AND STARTED SHAKING. I PRESSED THE EMERGENCY LIGHT AND PULLED OFF THE ROAD TO A SHOULDER. I WAIT A FEW MINUTES TURNED THE CAR AND IT STARTED SHAKING AND MAKING THE LOUD NOISE. I TURNED OFF THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM AND I DROVE HOME. *TR
MUFFLER ASSEMBLY GASKET/WELD FAILED. REQUIRED REPLACEMENT OF MUFFLER, GASKET AND TAILPIPE. NISSAN DEALER STATED THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH NISSAN VERSA HOWEVER THEY DO NOT WARRANTY THIS. *TR
LOUD NOISE WHEN DRIVING. TOOK TO LOCAL MECHANIC NEXT DAY AND WAS TOLD THE FLANGE BROKE FROM THE MUFFLER. *TR
I PURCHASED THIS CAR USED FROM A DEALERSHIP 11/3/2011, NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER, HAD REMAINDER OF REGULAR VEHICLE WARRANTY LEFT ON IT, NO PROBLEMS UNTIL THE OTHER DAY I THOUGHT IT SOUNDED LOUDER THAN NORMAL, SO WHEN I DROVE IT YESTERDAY IT WAS STILL LOUDER AND I LOOKED UNDERNEATH AND THE MUFFLER IS LOOSE AND THE EXHAUST SOUNDS TERRIBLE. THIS IS TERRIBLE FOR A NOT EVEN THREE YEAR OLD CAR WITH LESS THAN 30,000 MILES ON IT!!! I CALLED THE GARAGE WHERE I BOUGHT IT AND THEY SAY IT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BUT I HAVE TO TAKE IT OVER FOR THEM TO LOOK AT FIRST TO BE SURE SO IT BETTER BE OR I WILL BE QUITE UPSET IF I HAVE TO FORK OUT MONEY ON A CAR THAT IS LESS THAN THREE YEARS OLD ON SOMETHING WITH THE EXHAUST! MY PREVIOUS CAR WAS A DODGE AND I HAD IT FOR 7 YEARS AND NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH MUFFLER OR EXHAUST NEEDING REPLACED IN 7 YEARS!! *TR
