Chronological view of owner reports
Third time the ABS module has been replaced in 29,000 miles. Took months for our dealer to acquire the part. Second one with the "AB" suffix. Truck only used for livestock towing hence the low mileage. When the ABS-STC go out the warning indicators come on along with a "Service Electronic Braking" system message. When this occurs, not only are the two mandated important safety systems inoperative, four wheel drive wont engage. I don't use cruise control but hundreds of reports state it also is inoperative. Why is Stellantis and NHTSA dragging their feet on getting this issue resolved and recalled once and for all. Not having Anti Lock Brakes and Stability Control are dangerous. I don't get it.
Beginning in 2018, the ABS system will stop working intermittently and a number of trouble lights will come on, such as "Service ABS system" and, at the same time the cruise control and 4 wheel drive will stop working. I took it to a dealer while still under warranty and they claimed the ABS system was fine, and they could find no problem with the ABS, which had to be a lie since a code would certainly have shown up. I will go months without a problem then it will start intermittently going out for weeks at a time. This happened once in a snow storm near Denver, CO and I nearly went into the ditch because the 4wd suddenly stopped working. My research shows this is a common and serious problem with the 2017 and 2018 Rams and the manufacturer is well aware of the defective HCU that causes this safety issue. It needs to be repaired in a recall. An OBT scan shows that the ABS control unit intermittently suffers a "complete electrical failure" in the hydraulic control unit of the ABS.
I purchased a 2017 RAM 3500 in 2018 brand new, directly from a dealer. Within the first week of ownership, truck started alerting me that there is an issue with the automatic brakes and to service the vehicle. I took the truck to my local dealer in October 2018. They confirmed issue was with the ABS system. I was told to take a rental car because it would take some time to get the parts and I wouldn’t be allowed to take my truck because it wouldn’t be safe to drive. The parts came in after some time and the truck was repaired. Almost 24 months later (September 2020), the same ABS alerts began presenting itself. The dealer confirmed that the issue was again the ABS system and I was provided with a rental car until the part was replaced. Again, 24 months later (October 2022), the ABS alerts began to persistently display and make a chime many times over and over while driving. The dealer once again confirmed the ABS was at fault and ordered parts. I was told there were no parts available and to expect several months before the truck could be serviced. This time, the dealer would not provide a rental because the truck was not considered under warranty. Six months passed (March 2023) and the dealer called to report that a part had arrived and to bring the truck for service. The dealer later called and said when the box was opened, the part appeared damaged and could not be used and to wait for another part. I waited another 5 months (August 2023) to call the dealer and ask if any parts would be coming soon. I was told that engineers at RAM recalled all the parts and none are available. I went to the dealer and received a refund for the prepaid part. My truck has had no working ABS system since October 2022. The ABS is always on 100% of the time. This is a safety issue which devalues my vehicle, if I were to try to sell it. It also poses a danger whenever I need to use it. If parts do ever become available, I do not feel I should have to pay $1,000 for the repair.
warning lights for ABS and anti skid lights on intermittently
The abs control module and pump has been going out for the last 4 years with intermittent alarm every 30-44seconds. Every time I call dodge dealer the part is on back order for 4 years now I finally found a remanufactured one on eBay. This is a serious problem, very unsafe and I have talked to a lot of people with dodge ram trucks 2017-2018 that have the same issues and a couple people that have had bad accidents they believe is because now no traction control. Dodge needs to be held accountable for the parts they put in the truck and for not having a replacement ready to go.
My truck has 22,780 miles on it. This truck is currently in the shop having the Fifth ABS Module, ABS Control and ABS Hydraulic unit. The First time that this occurred was on 11/26/2018, 6,199 miles. I had owned the truck 16 months at this time. The Second time was on 7/6/2020, 11,982 miles (They called it an Axel Actuator this time, but it was the same error message on the dash panel as before). The Third time was on 12/14/2020, 14,930 miles. The dealer waved the deductible charges, this time, since the truck was just out of the regular warranty and this was an ongoing problem. The Fourth time was on 1/19/2024, 21,348 miles. Again, having to use extended warranty and pay the deductible. It's currently in the shop being repaired for the Fifth time for the same problem, 5/6/2024, 22,780 miles, Not even 4 months and less than 1,500 miles since the previous repair. The Dealer also said that the Brake Pedal sensor is bad this time in addition to all of the ABS parts. Once again, having to use extended warranty and pay the deductible. If I count the original ABS Equipment, this will make the Sixth ABS Equipment that has been on my truck. This is a MAJOR Safety issue due to the fact that I pull a 15,000 lb. fifth wheel RV and often times I have to come down mountains after it has failed. The Dealer has said that this an ongoing problem with the Ram 3500 & 2500 trucks. I have never had any vehicle in my entire life that has had an ABS problem, let alone this many times. Something needs to be done to correct this problem BEFORE someone is KILLED!
Driving 2017 Ram 3500 ABS light and traction control light. Problem with Hyrdraulic control unit and ABS control module. No parts available for repair. No accident report ABS problem condition that can't be fixed
The service emergency braking system warning randomly goes off. Some times it will go in the morning or maybe while driving. Might beep at me for a few minutes and then goes away
Service abs system. Had repaired but now came back. Abs control module No parts available national backorder ram needs to address this and fix my truck for free.
The ABS System has failed twice since i have owned this vehicle. The first time on [XXX] 2022. I brought the vehicle in for repair at Victory Ram in Shallotte, NC. They replaced the ABS Module and it failed again in January of 2024. This part is not available now so I must wait for a new part to be designed. I am driving this vehicle with a malfunctioning ABS System. I believe this should be a recall as it is a safety hazard and an expensive repair that the consumer should not be responsible for. ABS brake warning lights are on and cruise control will not work. I was told by the dealer the module had to be replaced. This truck only has 34691 miles on it now and this problem started over a year ago. Dealer said this part was not available because of supply chain issues. I have several friends with the same 2017 or 18 truck and are having the same issue. Obviously this is a defective part and is a significant safety concern being the brake system on a heavy truck
Service antilock brake system. This problem appeared about one year and a half ago, I took it to the Dodge dealership where after diagnosis, they replaced a valve in the hydraulic system. the cost of the repair was, $800.00. Now as of 12/28/2023, I am having the same problem with the same code and dash brake light and stability control. We need a recall, which will repair these problems, or redesign the parts associated with this system. Now, I am driving a vehicle that is probably unsafe to use. The vehicle is a 2017 Dodge Ram 3500 6.4 liter engine, SRW. Thank you
The ABS module/HCU has failed again. I originally failed in August of 2021, it was replaced with mopar OEM parts, it has now failed again.
I am getting the C-0020-01 ABS code. The ABS module and HCU have been replaced and have failed again. This is making the vehicle dangerous to stop in damp conditions.
the abs brake warning light and the traction control light goes on and off constantly. a "warning beep also goes on. this has been going on for over a year. we have been told it is under "engineering review". we have been trying to get a fix but keep being told part is on backorder. have called ND texted Ram multiple times and they refuse to do anything. This is a break problem-not an insignificant safety problem. is therr anything you can do about this?
ABS control module has failed and is not available from the dealer, this is a known problem on 2017 and 2018 model year ,Part number 68347098AA, been told this will not be available untill 08/2024 at the earliest, there is a nation wide back order for a replacement part.
Replace abs module code
ABS or EBS warning light. Dealer unable to resolve.
Vehicle alarms indicating loss of anti-lock and traction control systems. Failure results in loss of both anti-lock braking and traction control safety functions Have twice had the ABS control module and Hydraulic Control unit replaced by Ram dealer. Failure returned for third time in July 2023, and have been waiting on same replacement parts since (manufacturer backorder). Vehicle has approximately 83k miles, and this issue has been ongoing since 2019.
2017 Ram 3500 intermittently displayed service anti-lock brake system and service electronic braking system notifications on the dash display while parked and driving. A local dealer diagnosed the fault it as an ABS hydraulic controller/pump failure and stated the replacement part is on backorder with an unknown timeline for arrival. They have informed me that the truck may not perform braking safety functions as intended and advised I should not drive the vehicle until the problem has been corrected.
Truck has only 11,500 miles Flashing service anti locking brake system —& ABS and anti skid lights also flashing Took to Ram -ABS module needs to be replaced around $1200 to fix
I have a 2017 Ram 3500 and continue to have problems with the ABS brake system. At 17036 miles on 10-08-2020 I had an ABS failure warning light. The Ram Dealer replaced the HCU module which seemed to fix the ABS failure for a short time. At 35832 miles in November of 2023 I am once again getting a ABS warning light. The Ram Dealer now recommends replacing the ABS module and the ABS Pump. ABS failure should not be happening repeatedly on a low mileage vehicle.
Like many others, I am experiencing the Service ABS light coming on which not only disables the ABS system but also disables the cruise control. The chiming of the warning goes off every few seconds and can be extremely distracting. With the ABS no longer working, I and my family are at risk since we use this to tow a 14,000 lb. fifth wheel. I have taken this to a Ram dealer and the diagnostic is the ABS Module / Hydraulic control unit failure. Ram has known this is an issues for several years.
Abs module keeps going out and now it’s leaking
The abs light as well as the service electric braking system continues to go off. I’ve taking the truck to the shop and they say I need a new abs brake module. I’ve been waiting over 5 months and now they tell me parts may be available in September 2023. The truck “ dings” everytime the abs light comes on about every 2 seconds and is driving me crazy. The truck only had 50k miles. Again the constant dinging is driving me insane. Dealer says there’s no way to turn the ding off and I just have to deal with it. I shouldn’t just have to deal with it. Truck is still under warranty.
