TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHEN THE CONTACT SHIFTED THE GEAR LEVER FROM DRIVE INTO PARK, THE GEAR LEVER WOULD NOT LOCK INTO PLACE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE GEAR WAS LOOSE AND THAT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE NEEDED TO BE APPLIED TO STOP THE VEHICLE FROM ROLLING FORWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE SHIFTER CABLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 200,000.

MY CAR MADE A SOUND LIKE ROCKS IN A BLENDER AND STOPPED MOVING FORWARD. I SHIFTED IN TO NEUTRAL AND COASTED TO A STOP. THE SOUND WAS FROM THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION.I TRIED TO SHIFT BACK INTO GEAR (DRIVE) BUT WAS UNABLE TO GET IT TO GO INTO DRIVE AND THE SOUND THE TRANS WAS MAKING WAS TO SAY THE LEAST HORRIBLE . AT THE TIME THIS HAPPENED I WAS HEADING FOR THE ON RAMP TO INTERSTATE 90. I HAD FOUR CHILDREN IN THIS CAR AND CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT THE OUTCOME WOULD HAVE BEEN IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ONE MINUTE LATER!!! I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND DID NOT RESTART IT.I HAD TOWED TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE INFORMED ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED!! $3600.00 FOR A TRANSMISSION AND MY CAR HAS ONLY BEEN DRIVEN 53000 MILES! THIS IS MY 8TH TOYOTA AND POSSIBLY LAST!! I WILL SEE WHAT TOYOTA HAS TO SAY. SO FAR ,THEIR ONLY OFFER(YOUR TRANSMISSION IS BAD). NO REASON WHY!! I WAS RETURNING HOME LAST WEEK ON I-40 IN TN. I WAS GOING UP A GRADE WITH VEHICLES ALL AROUND ME WHEN MY TRANSMISSION BLEW. I INSTANTLY LOST POWER AND WENT FROM 70 TO 50 IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE. LUCKILY I WASN'T HIT AND WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR OFF THE ROAD. AFTER TOWING THE CAR HOME I WAS DISAPPOINTED TO HEAR OF MANY SIMILAR ACCOUNTS FROM OTHER MATRIX OWNERS. APPARENTLY THERE ARE FAULTY BEARINGS TO BLAME FOR COUNTLESS TRANSMISSION FAILURES ON CARS WITH ALARMINGLY LOW MILEAGE. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT TOYOTA SHOULD RECONCILE WITH ITS CUSTOMERS AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, FIX BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED OR KILLED. *JS

MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA WAS ON A RECALL LIST FOR THE ECM. I WAS WATCHING THE CAR'S BEHAVIOR CLOSELY FOR WARNING SIGNS/ PROBLEMS RELATED TO THE ECM. SURPRISINGLY INSTEAD OF PROBLEMS STARTING,HARSH SHIFTING OR STOPPING WHILE DRIVING (ALL LISTED AS POSSIBLE "SYMPTOMS" OF ECM ISSUES)- THE OPPOSITE PROBLEM OCCURRED. MY CAR TRIED TO ACCELERATE WHEN STOPPED! WHEN FULLY STOPPED AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS/STOP SIGNS, WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL,ALL OF A SUDDEN, MY CAR ENGINE REVVED AND THE CAR TRIED TO ACCELERATE.I QUICKLY PUSHED DOWN EVEN HARDER ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STAY STOPPED AND NOT CRASH INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME OR GO THE INTERSECTION. OTHER INSTANCES OCCURRED WHEN PARKING AFTER A SHORT DRIVE DOING ERRANDS. AGAIN,THE ENGINE REVVED UP AND ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE WHILE STOPPED,PREPARING TO PUT THE CAR INTO PARK... AND ONCE AGAIN I HAD TO HOLD IT WITH THE BRAKE.THESE"BEHAVIORS" HAPPENED SO FREQUENTLY THAT I FINALLY RESORTED TO PUTTING THE CAR IN NEUTRAL TO BE SAFE WHEN I WAS STOPPED. I ALSO REMEMBERED FROM NEWS REPORTS THAT CAR MATS COULD POSSIBLY SHIFT AND INTERFERE WITH PEDALS SO I HAD REMOVED MY MATS(ORIGINAL MATS ATTACHED TO HOOKS) TO ENSURE THEY COULD NOT BE AN ISSUE ALTHOUGH IT SEEMED OBVIOUS THEY HAD NEVER MOVED OFF THEIR HOOKS TOWARDS THE PEDALS. I CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE AT TOYOTA CORPORATE TO SEEK THEIR ADVICE AND FULLY DESCRIBED THE PROBLEM AS I HAVE HERE.THEY SAID TOYOTA MECHANICS WOULD HAVE TO GET THE CAR TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM IN ORDER TO FIX IT. I ASSURED THEM IT WAS REALLY HAPPENING, BUT IT WAS NOT PREDICTABLE. SOON AFTER THIS,MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP CALLED TO LET ME KNOW THAT THERE WAS AN OPENING FOR ME TO COME IN AND HAVE MY CAR LOOKED AT SINCE THEY HAD BEEN MADE AWARE THAT I WAS HAVING A PROBLEM WITH MY BRAKES ! I LET THEM KNOW THAT MY BRAKES WERE NOT THE PROBLEM BUT WAS WITH ACCELERATION WHEN I WAS STOPPED WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE AND THEN THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE COMPUTER REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT SINCE HER VEHICLE WAS 15 MILES OVER HER WARRANTY THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115. THE VIN WAS AVAILABLE.

THE CAR'S AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO SHIFT HARSHLY FROM FIRST GEAR TO SECOND GEAR. THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT THEN CAME ON. I TOOK IT TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ONBOARD COMPUTER, UNDER WARRANTY. DEALER SAID THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ABOUT THIS. THIS HAS FIXED THE PROBLEM. *TR

DEAR TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE, I REQUEST PROMPT REIMBURSEMENT OF EXPENSES IN THE AMOUNT OF $656.47 INCURRED DUE TO THE MALFUNCTIONING OF THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE IN MY 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA LAST MONTH. WHILE A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP ULTIMATELY REPLACED THE ECM AT NO COST, I INCURRED RENTAL CAR EXPENSES FOR THE TIME I WAS WITHOUT MY COROLLA, AND PAID PARTS AND LABOR IN THE AMOUNT OF $521.76 TO MY INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO INITIALLY REPLACE A TRANSMISSION SOLENOID WHICH HAD GONE BAD DUE TO THE FAILING ECM. I WILL NOT EVEN DESCRIBE THE AMOUNT OF MY TIME THAT TOYOTA WASTED BY FAILING TO NOTIFY ME, AS THE OWNER OF A CAR MODEL KNOWN BY TOYOTA TO FREQUENTLY HAVE PREMATURE ECM FAILURE, OF THIS ISSUE SO THAT I COULD RESOLVE IT AT A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY. IN EARLY JULY I EXPERIENCED DIFFICULT AND JERKING SHIFTING OF THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IN MY TOYOTA. I BROUGHT IT TO MY INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A BAD TRANSMISSION SOLENOID (CODE P2716), AND SUBSEQUENTLY DETERMINED THAT THE SOLENOID HAD GONE BAD DUE TO THE ECM FAILING. AT THAT POINT, CONCERNED ABOUT THE STATE OF MY TRANSMISSION, I CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ECM IS COVERED UP TO 8 YEARS/80,000 MILES, AND THAT IF THE SOLENOID HAD GONE BAD AS A RESULT OF THE FAILING ECM, THE SOLENOID REPLACEMENT, TOO, WOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE ECM AT NO CHARGE. I BELIEVE THAT THE OUT-OF-POCKET EXPENSES I INCURRED, AS WELL AS THE CONSIDERABLE INCONVENIENCE I ENDURED, WOULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF TOYOTA HAD SHARED PROACTIVELY WITH ITS CUSTOMERS THE FACT THAT FAILING ECMS ARE UNUSUALLY COMMON IN COROLLAS. IF TOYOTA HAD REPORTED THIS INFORMATION TO ME, I WOULD HAVE RECOGNIZED THE SYMPTOMS DEMONSTRATED BY MY CAR, AND WOULD HAVE BROUGHT IT TO A DEALERSHIP IN THE FIRST INSTANCE TO BE FIXED. INSTEAD, I SPENT TIME AND MONEY USING A TRUSTED INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, AND LEARNED OF THE LARGER ECM PROBLEM THROUGH HIM AND THROUGH INDEPENDENT RESEARCH. *TR

I HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA CE, IT'S AUTOMATIC WITH THE DRIVE SHIFT IN THE CENTER CONSOLE. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE I NOTICED IF THE SHIFT IS BARELY BUMPED IT KNOCKS THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. I HAVE BEEN VERY CAREFUL NOT TO BUMP IT, BUT YESTERDAY I HIT A BUMP ON THE INTERSTATE IT KNOCKED ME INTO NEUTRAL, I WAS NOT AWARE I WAS OUT OF GEAR, BECAUSE A 18 WHEELER WAS BARRELING DOWN ON MY BUMPER, SO I COULDN'T HEAR THE CHANGE IN THE MOTOR, BUT WHEN I TRIED TO ACCELERATE TO GET OUT OF HIS WAY, THE CAR WOULDN'T GO FASTER, THEN I NOTICED MY TACHOMETER WAS AT 4 1/2 AND KNEW THERE WAS A PROBLEMS SO I TOOK THE SHOULDER. THE DEALERSHIP SHRUGGED THEIR SHOULDERS AND SAID IT DIDN'T HAPPEN TO THEM IN A TEST DRIVE AROUND THE PARKING LOT. HAVE OWNED THE CAR JUST OVER ONE YEAR. ODOMETER IS JUST PAST 23K MILES. CAR HAS ONLY BEEN USED FOR NORMAL DAILY DRIVING. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND IMMEDIATELY THEREAFTER THE CAR DEVELOPED A JERK IN THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AT EACH GEAR SHIFT. TOOK CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THIS PROBLEM AND THAT THE COMPUTER WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE WITH NEW "LOGIC". TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE VEHICLE WAS PUT INTO THE PARK GEAR, HOWEVER; IT SHIFTED TO REVERSE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE COMPUTER. AFTER THE REPAIR WAS MADE THE VEHICLE WAS SITTING AT A STOP LIGHT AND THE WARNING INDICATOR LIGHT FOR THE DOOR ILLUMINATED. THE SPEEDOMETER BEGAN TO RACE UP AND DOWN AND THERE WAS A NOISE HEARD COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD AND CRASHED INTO THE REAR END OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED. THE DRIVER AND THE INFANT IN THE OTHER VEHICLE SUSTAINED INJURIES. THERE WAS NO POLICE REPORT. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE BUT WILL BE ADDED TO THE HARDCOPY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,677. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 28,660.
