There have been multiple times where the car accelerates on it's own, suddenly. The latest was last evening. It usually happens when I'm just going to accelerate slighting (at a stop sign, or end of the driveway) where I give it just a little gas, and the car accelerates much more quickly than intended. I've looked for a recall, but cannot find one for this. Please advise.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AND APPROACHING A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT SHIFTED THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL AND STOPPED THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO LARICHE TOYOTA (920 PLAZA ST, FINDLAY, OH 45840) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE FOR THE FAILURE. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000.

AS I WAS TRANSITIONING FROM A STOP TO A SLOW START, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED SUDDENLY FROM 0 RPM TO 5 RPM. I WAS ABLE TO SLAM ON BRAKES TO STOP THE VEHICLE BUT I ALMOST CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE IN THE PROCESS. I WAS CROSSING A INTERSECTION - ON A LEVELED STREET
CAR BOLTS WHEN PARKING, TAKING OFF BACK OR FORWARD, FROM DEAD START OR TAKING OFF FROM LIGHTS, STOP SIGNS ETC. HAS DONE THIS FOR YRS. NOW. SON DROVE CAR AND MENTIONED HOW AWFUL THAT WAS AND I NEVER MENTIONED IT TO HIM. FRIEND DID NOT BELIEVE ME AND TRIED IT FOR ONE BLOCK. SAID IT WAS DANGEROUS AND HORRIBLE. I AM SICK OF THIS HAPPENING AND NEED TO HAVE IT INVESTIGATED. I AM A VERY PATIENT PERSON BUT THIS IS NOT GOOD. HAPPENS EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT.
CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVE, I MADE A SPEED CHANGE USING THE STEERING COLUMN LEVER WHEN THE ENGINE WENT TO 6,000 RPM IN FULL ACCELERATION. MY SPEED WAS ABOUT 65 ON A RURAL ROAD PRIOR TO THIS EVENT. I TAPPED THE ACCELERATOR WITH NO CHANGE, THEN THE BRAKE WHICH CANCELLED THE UNCOMMANDED ACCELERATION.
EVERY TIME I ACCELERATE FORWARD OR REVERSE, MY CAR JUMPS QUICKLY. SCAREY AND ALMOST HAVE HIT THINGS. I ACCELERATE VERY CAUTIOUSLY EVERY SINGLE TIME BUT NOT FUN!!! WAITING FOR THE BIG HIT!!!! NOT "IF" BUT "WHEN?" NOT MY IMAGINATION. MY GROWN SON, HATES TO DRIVE MY CAR. HE SAYS THE SAME THING. HAPPENS ANYTIME I ACCELERATE FROM A STOPPED POSITION. STOP SIGNS, PARKING PLACES, GARAGE ENTERING OR LEAVING. STARTED ABOUT 2013 AND CONTINUED SINCE, EVERY SINGLE TIME. NOW 10/07/15.
TRAVELED APPROXIMATELY 80 MILES ROUND TRIP. PULLED INTO DRIVEWAY OF PASSENGER AND STOPPED. CAR WAS IDLING THEN SUDDENLY SURGED FORWARD. HAD TO STOMP ON BRAKE HARD, BUT STILL HIT GARAGE DOOR CAUSING DAMAGE. THIS WAS THE THIRD INCIDENT WITH MY CAR AND I AM NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED WHEN I SLOWED AT A STOP LIGHT WHICH WAS GREEN PREPARING TO TURN RIGHT. THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND I STOOD ON THE BRAKE AS I TURNED THE CORNER. THE CAR SOUNDED LIKE ALL THE BOLTS AND MOTOR WERE FALLING OUT BEFORE IT RIGHTED ITSELF. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT.

THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO SLOW DOWN, BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ALSO SANK TO THE FLOOR BOARD. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH FORCE. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AND CRASHED INTO A PARKED VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SUFFERED INJURIES TO THE BACK. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 58,948.

THIS IS A PETITION FOR AN INVESTIGATION INTO LOW-SPEED SURGING IN THE 2006-2010 TOYOTA COROLLA WITH ETCS-I, IN WHICH THE BRAKES FAIL TO STOP THE VEHICLE IN TIME TO PREVENT A CRASH. THIS REQUEST IS BASED ON FIRST-HAND EXPERIENCE IN WHICH MULTIPLE LOW-SPEED SURGE EVENTS THAT OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING OUR 2010 COROLLA. THE LATEST INCIDENT RESULTED IN A CRASH ON JUNE 8, 2014. IN ADDITION TO THE EVIDENCE FROM OUR CRASH INCIDENT, WE ARE PROVIDING EVIDENCE THAT MANY OTHER COROLLA OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING SIMILARLY UNSAFE SCENARIOS THAT ARE LEADING TO CRASHES. I WAS DRIVING MY 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA UPHILL AND IT FELT AS IF I SLID/SLIPPED A LITTLE ON THE ROAD, WHICH WAS NOT SLIPPERY. THE VSC OFF LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BOTH STARTED FLASHING ON AND OFF...AND IT SEEMED AS IF I LOST POWER. FINALLY REGAINED POWER TO A NORMAL SPEED BUT LIGHTS STILL FLASHING AND POWER LOST AGAIN.
