I HAVE A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA ,THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR STARTED MAKING POPPING SOUND A FEW MONTHS AGO AND AS THE TIME AS GONE BY IT IS GETTING WORSE AND WORSE. THE NOISE IS COMING FROM THE DOOR CHECK WELDS THAT WERE WELDED IMPROPERLY AND THE MAIN STRUCTURE OF THE DOOR IS AFFECTED BY IT. RESEARCHED THE ISSUE AND IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON MY TYPE OF CAR, TOYOTA HAS RECOGNIZED THIS PROBLEM WHICH AFFECTED 600,000 SIENNA'S AND ISSUED A WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM IN 2007 BUT IT ENDED A FEW YEARS AGO. TOOK IT TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, THEY REFUSED TO FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE MY VIN # IS NOT AFFECTED BY THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT AND EVEN IF MY VIN # WAS AFFECTED, ITS TOO LATE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ANY HELP FROM TOYOTA. I HAVE CALLED TOYOTA CORPORATE, THEY KNOW ALL ABOUT THE ISSUE AND WILL NOT HELP ME EITHER. EVERYONE FROM TECHS, SERVICE ADVISORS AND MANGERS THEY ALL KNOWS THE PROBLEM EXIST BUT WILL NOT FIX IT BECAUSE THEY WANT THE CONSUMER TO PAY FOR IT. THE ONLY REASON MY VIN IS NOT AFFECTED IS BECAUSE NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED THIS COMMON PROBLEM. THIS SAME VEHICLE IS ALSO AFFECTED BY DASH CRACK PROBLEM, FOR YEARS I HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT IT NOW FINALLY TOYOTA WILL FIX THIS ISSUE FOR FREE. *TR

DRIVER SIDE FRONT DOOR -CHECK POCKET WELDING POINTS BROKEN DRIVER SIDE FRONT DOOR WAS GIVING CLICK AND OTHER NOISES DURING OPEN AND CLOSE. IT STARTED ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO. I THOUGHT IT MAY JUST REQUIRE A FEW DROPS OF LUBRICATING OIL. EVENTUALLY, THE CLICK NOISE BECOMES LOUDER AND LOUDER. MID LAST YEAR, THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT DOOR -CHECK POCKET GAVE AWAY. EVERY TIME YOU OPEN AND CLOSE THE DOOR, IT GIVES VERY LOUD CRACK AND THE DOOR IS NOT PROPERLY CHECKED. I'VE FOUND THAT THERE ARE MULTIPLE WELDING POINTS OF THE POCKET TO THE DOOR BODY AND SOME WELDING POINTS GAVE AWAY OVER TIME. BUT EVENTUALLY, PART OF THE POCKET GAVE AWAY AND IT BECOMES LOOSE. I HAD CARS OLDER THAN THIS AND NEVER HAD SUCH ISSUE. IT IS DEFINITELY A QUALITY ISSUE OR DESIGN FLAW. BECAUSE THE DOOR IS NOT PROPERLY CHECKED, IT MAY CAUSE SAFETY ISSUE IN WINDY OR SLOPED SITUATION WHEN YOU OPEN OR CLOSE DOOR. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND AFTER MANY EMAILS AND PHONE CALLS, THEY REPLIED AND SAID THAT THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. NONE OF MY OTHER CARS OR MY FRIENDS CARS (NOT TOYOTA) HAVE SUCH ISSUE EVEN THOUGH SOME OF THOSE CARS ARE OLDER AND HAVE MORE MILEAGES. THIS KIND OF CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM TOYOTA IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. *TR

DOOR HINGE WELDING IN DRIVER DOOR BREAKS DUE TO INSUFFICIENT WELDING STRENGTH IN 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA AND MAYBE OTHER YEARS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT DURING COLD TEMPERATURES, THE REAR LIFTGATE FAILED TO REMAIN OPEN WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR STRUTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.

DRIVER SIDE DOOR CHECK STRAP WELD FAILING, CAUSING DOOR TO DROOP/POP AND LOOSEN FROM FRAME OF BODY. 100'S OF OTHER SIENNA OWNERS ARE REPORTING THIS PROBLEM(CHECK CARCOMPLAINTS.COM), AND AFFECTS THE DOOR INTEGRITY, THEREFORE CAUSING HUGE CONCERNS DURING A POTENTIAL ACCIDENT. THIS MAY INCREASE THE CHANCES OF DRIVER DOOR FROM REMAINING INTACT DURING A COLLISION, OR WORSE A FATALITY. I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH A WELD FAILURE IN ANY NEW OR OLD VEHICLES THAT I HAVE OWNED, AND SEEMS TO BE A DESIGN/ASSEMBLY ERROR. TOYOTA ISSUED A WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR 5 YEARS FROM PURCHASE BUT MOST WELDS FAIL AFTER 6 OR MORE YEARS OF OPERATION. STRUCTURAL REPAIRS OF THIS CALIBER SHOULD BE DONE BY THE FACTORY NOT AT THE LOCAL REPAIR SHOP, AND MUST MEET CRASH TEST TOLERANCES. THERE ARE OVER 100K SIENNA'S ON THE ROAD, AND THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. TOYOTA WAS NOTIFIED OF THIS CONCERN, AND COULD NOT PROVIDE SERVICE SINCE WARRANTY HAS LAPSED. AFTER THE REAR HATCH STRUTS WERE REPLACED FOR THE RECALL, THE REAR HATCH WHEN OPENED MANUALLY FLIES OPEN SO FAST IT HAS HIT ME THE HEAD. TOYOTA SAID THE NEW STRUTS HAVE MORE PRESSURE TO HOLD THE DOOR UP SO IT WILL OPEN FASTER, BUT THIS IS DANGEROUS. THE DOOR NEVER OPENED THIS FAST WITH THE OLD STRUTS. THE NOTE BEFORE STEP 1 OF THE REPAIR PROCEDURE HAS BEEN UPDATED. PREVIOUS VERSIONS OF THIS TSB SHOULD BE DISCARDED. REAR LIFT GATE OPENED WITH REMOTE WHILE I STARTED TO PACK MY VAN LEAVING ON A TRIP, THE LIFT GATE STARTED TO CLOSE ON ME. I HAD THIS HAPPEN SEVERAL TIMES IN THE COLD WEATHER. I CONTACTED TOYOTA TELLING THEM I THOUGHT IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE, ASKED IF THERE WAS A RECALL OR SOMETHING OUT THERE TO GET THIS RESOLVED WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO RECALL. IT HAPPENED TO ME AGAIN ON NOV 14 2024. AND AGAIN TODAY NOV 16TH 2024. I THINK THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE WHAT IF A CHILD WAS STANDING BY THEIR PARENT AND ACCIDENTALLY GOT CLIPPED BY THIS LIFTGATE. THIS PAST WINTER, OUR RIGHT SIDE POWER SLIDING DOOR BEGAN TO ACT UP- IT WOULD NOT OPEN OR CLOSE VIA THE KEY FOB OR BUTTON OVER THE REARVIEW MIRROR. IF YOU PULLED THE DOOR HANDLE, IT WOULD OPEN OR CLOSE. AFTER A FEW DAYS, IT BEGAN WORKING FINE AGAIN. THEN IN APRIL, IT BEGAN ACTING UP AGAIN, DOING THE SAME THINGS AS BEFORE, BUT THIS TIME, IT ALSO WOULD SOMETIMES NOT FULLY CLOSE (IT WOULD BE CLOSING ON ITS OWN, BUT BEFORE IT WAS FULLY CLOSED, IT WOULD GO BACK OPEN AGAIN). WE DIDN'T WANT TO SPEND MONEY ON IT BECAUSE WE HAD JUST BOUGHT A HOUSE FOR THE FIRST TIME AND WERE FOCUSED ON THAT. BUT THEN WHEN WE WERE OUT IN JUNE, WE HAD CLOSED THE DOOR, OR THOUGHT WE HAD, AND CAME OUT OF THE STORE WE WERE IN LATER TO FIND THE DOOR WIDE OPEN. THAT IS A PROBLEM! OUR VAN COULD HAVE BEEN STOLEN OR THINGS OUT OF IT. THANKFULLY, GOD WATCHED OVER OUR VEHICLE. SO WE FINALLY EXPLORED INTO GETTING IT FIXED AND WERE TOLD ABOUT THIS EXTENDED WARRANTY/RECALL FOR THE FIRST TIME. THE PROBLEM WAS BY THE TIME WE INQUIRED, WE WERE JUST OVER 120,000 MILES, BUT ARE STILL WITHIN THE 9 YEARS (BUT IT IS WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST), SO NOW WE ARE BEING TOLD IT CANNOT BE FIXED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY/RECALL AND WILL COST US $1,900 TO GET IT FIXED. WE DON'T HAVE THIS KIND OF MONEY AND ARE VERY UPSET! WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED BY TOYOTA OF THIS EXTENDED RECALL, OR WE WOULD HAVE TAKEN THE VAN IN RIGHT AWAY WHEN THE DOOR BEGAN TO ACT UP. WE ALSO WERE TOLD (FALSELY) BY THE TOYOTA DEALER THAT IT IS 7 YEARS OR 120,000 MILES AND THAT EITHER WAY, WE DON'T QUALIFY. THIS IS REALLY AN ONGOING ISSUE THAT STARTED IN WINTER OF 2012 AND CARRIED OVER INTO 2013. OUR SIENNA HAS/HAD ISSUES WITH THE POWER SLIDING DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOORS. WE WERE TOLD BY LITHIA TOYOTA IN GRAND FORKS, ND THAT IT WOULD COST $1700 TO REPLACE A LATCH AND CABLE IN ORDER FOR THE POWER SLIDING DOOR TO WORK. THERE IS NO WAY I WAS EVEN GOING TO CONSIDER PAYING THAT FOR THE DRIVER OR PASSENGER SIDE, LET ALONE BOTH. AFTER READING ABOUT ALL THE ISSUES TOYOTA SIENNA'S HAVE, MY WIFE AND I LOOKED FOR OTHER OPTIONS. WE TOOK OUR SIENNA TO CORWIN TOYOTA IN FARGO, ND WHERE THEY REMOVED THE POWER CAPABILITY SO WE COULD SIMPLY HAVE A MANUAL SLIDING DOOR ON THE DRIVER SIDE. THAT OPTION WORKED WELL FOR A WHILE, BUT EVENTUALLY IT DIDN'T WORK BETWEEN THE SNOW/ICE AND (FULL DISCLOSURE...WE LIVE ON A GRAVEL ROAD) DUST, OUR DOORS CONTINUOUSLY STICK NO MATTER WHAT TIME OF THE YEAR IT IS, REGARDLESS OF TEMPERATURE. WE OFTEN GO FOR MONTHS AT A TIME WITH ONLY ONE OPERATIONAL MANUAL SLIDING DOOR (WE DID HAVE LAKE TOYOTA IN DEVILS LAKE, ND MAKE THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR MANUAL LIKE THE DRIVERS SIDE). WHEN BOTH DOORS GET STUCK, WE HAVE ONE REPAIRED (HAVE DONE THAT A COUPLE TIMES). THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT TOYOTA IS REFUSING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT. WHY CAN'T WE HAVE A MANUAL OPERATING DOOR? WHY DO WE HAVE TO KEEP GOING TO A DEALER TO HAVE THIS SITUATION TAKEN CARE OF? I HAVE TRIED TO CONTACT TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE AND WAS TOLD THAT THEIR WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 120K MILE POINT (WE CURRENTLY HAVE 194K MILES ON THE VAN, BOUGHT IT WITH 125K). I JUST WANT TOYOTA TO REPAIR MY SLIDING DOORS SO THEY WORK MANUALLY. I DO NOT CARE ABOUT POWER DOORS. PERHAPS YOU CAN EXPLAIN THIS TO TOYOTA IN A WAY WHICH I HAVE FAILED TO DO. *TR

THE SLIDING BACK DOOR WILL NOT OPEN. THE MOTOR IS STILL WORKING BUT THE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN. IT CAN NOT BE OPENED MANUALLY EITHER. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE FOR MY CHILDREN IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT. THE IS NO WAY TO EXIT THE CAR FROM THE BACK SEATS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THERE SHOULD ALWAYS BE A WAY TO MANUALLY OPEN THE DOOR. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR MADE A LOUD POPPING NOISE WHEN IT WAS OPENED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE DRIVERS DOOR SWUNG OPEN AND HIT HER LEGS. A LOCAL MECHANIC INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE DRIVER'S DOOR HINGE WAS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED.
