I went in to get my truck worked on & was told it was not safe. The frame is rusted and cracked. I did not receive a recall notification. Now, I have a broken truck and cannot afford to buy another vehicle or pay to repair this one. This is a safety hazard for the other people on the road and a death trap for the owners with vehicles that Toyota will not stand behind.

Toyota Tacoma 2006 TRD, This vehicle was recalled for rust to the frame on 10/03/2018. The frame was replaced by Sheehy Toyota of Fredericksburg, Virginia. The work was done and completed con 02/07/2019. The vehicle supposedly was thoroughly inspected for any problems by the dealership. Then released to me after the work was done. Then in November of 2019 I moved from Virginia to Nebraska. Used this truck to move with and pulled a trailer over 2,000 miles with it. Little did I know my life was in danger due to negligence by the dealers service department. Recently I replaced the rear bumper on this truck. By doing this it fully exposed the trailer hitch system on the truck. This is when I clearly seen that a part of the trailer hitch was completely rusted through. When replacing the frame on this truck the dealership had to notice this severely damaged part. Yet they did not inform me of this situation. If they had, I would have had the part replaced, due to the chance of it breaking which could have caused an accident. This is nothing short of pure negligence on the part of this dealership. People could have been severely injured or killed due to this negligence. I have pictures of this part just the way they left it.

Hi My name is [XXX] I currently own a toyota 2006 tacoma for which the frame broke this week and now not drivable. I learned when I took my car to a local dealer for a recall seat belts and other issues in 2021, the Dealer told me that the frame was very rust and that I needed to contact Toyota USA as there was a recall to rusted frames that involved my vehicle year make. I called Toyota back then and they told me there was nothing they can do as that safety recall was expired. We cannot afford to pay oop for the fix of the frame and plus I emphasized to Toyota that I had never been notified at least I never got a notice. At this point I'm very concerned for my husband safeness that is the car he uses for work, we have been a very loyal customer to Toyota and now I'm very disappointed and more so concerned about my husband safety as Toyota seems not able to fix it I had filed a claim and they did not resolve in our favor. This is a formal complaint in regards to safety. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

I recently bought this Tacoma used and just found out from my local mechanic that the frame is severely rusted and likely unsafe to drive. I immediately scheduled a frame inspection with Toyota. They confirmed that it was very unsafe to drive and gave me a quote of $14,711 to fix it. This is more than the value of the truck. Although Toyota acknowledged that there was a service campaign for rust issues on these trucks they said it had expired and there was nothing I could do.

The mechanic noticed rust the frame was rusty so recommend I take it to a metal shop to get an estimate for re-welding the frame and they are hesitant to even work on it because of how corroded it is. The cab is almost detached from the frame and the support above the rear axle is about to snap in half.

06 TACOMA FRAME THAT HAS RUSTED THROUGH THE FRAME WHERE THE FRONT AND BACK SECTION ARE WELDED TOGETHER. ALSO ON THE ARM TO THE SHOCK HAS RUSTED THROUGH. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED IN 2018 AND THE LEAF SPRINGS WERE REPLACED AND WAS TOLD THE REST OF THE FRAME WAS OK. I ONLY FOUND THE PROBLEM WHEN THE EXHAUST BRACKET WAS HANGING DOWN, WHICH THE WELD BROKE FROM THE RUST.

I HAVE A BLACK-COLORED 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA PICKUP TRUCK. FOR MANY YEARS, I'VE WONDERED WHY THE PAINT ON THE HOOD CHIPPED OFF IN TINY CIRCLES, UNLIKE ANY OTHER MODEL VEHICLE THAT I HAVE EVER OWNED. RECENTLY, I WAS SHOCKED TO SEE HOW BADLY RUSTED A SECTION OF THE ROOF OF MY CAB WAS. I CHECKED ONLINE TO SEE IF OTHERS WERE HAVING A SIMILAR ISSUE AND FOUND PEOPLE COMPLAINING OF THIS SEEMED TO OWN PICK-UPS THAT WERE ALSO PAINTED BLACK, AND WERE ALSO 2006 MODELS. THE RUST PATTERNS SEEMED SIMILAR IN EVERY PICTURE I VIEWED, A PORTION OF THE ROOF ABOVE THE DRIVERS SIDE, RUSTED THE LENGTH FROM NEAR THE FRONT WINDSHIELD AREA TO NEAR THE BACK OF THE CAB. IN MY OPINION, AND BASED ON THE PICTURES OF SIMILAR INSTANCES I'VE VIEWED ONLINE, THERE SEEMS TO POSSIBLY BE SOME COMPELLING EVIDENCE OF A DEFICIENCY IN THE PAINTING METHOD OR MATERIAL USED ON THIS COLOR/YEAR TRUCK. IS THERE A RECALL OR SERVICE BULLETIN IN THE WORKS? I BELIEVE TOYOTA NEEDS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS ISSUE AS SOMETHING DOES NOT SEEM QUITE RIGHT AND THAT THEY SHOULD ADDRESS THESE ANOMALIES IN AN EFFORT TO REACH A FAIR RESOLUTION? BTW, THE REAR BUMPER'S EXCEPTIONALLY RUSTED OUT TOO, AND THE PLASTIC HEADLIGHT COVERINGS ON THIS MODEL HAVE CLOUDED UP WORSE THAN I HAVE EVER SEEN ON ANY OTHER VEHICLE MAKE, AS MOST OTHER HEADLIGHTS THAT I AM FAMILIAR WITH ARE MADE OF GLASS. (SEE ATTACHED PICTURES)

TOYOTA WAS FORCED TO GIVE A WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT FOR FRAMES ON A NUMBER OF TRUCKS BECAUSE OF RUST. THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED BUT I SILL HAVE THE OLD RUST PRONE FRAME. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL THAT DOES NOT EXPIRE, WHAT HAPPENS TO ME DOWN THE ROAD WHEN MY FRAME FAILS? SINCE THE PROBLEM WILL NOT GO AWAY HOW IS THE WARRANTY LIMITED? THIS IS NOT RIGHT, HOW CAN I RESELL A TRUCK THAT HAS A FAULTY FRAME? I AM UPSET THEY GOT AWAY WITH OUT A RECALL.

FRAME RUST. TRUCK WAS TREATED DURING THE RECALL IN DEC 2014 AND DEALER STATED IT WOULD BE FINE. 5 YEARS AND 19,000 MILES LATER, THE FRAME IS TOTALLY RUSTED THROUGH. CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY SAID THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO BECAUSE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. VEHICLE WAS TREATED AND IF TREATED CORRECTLY IT SHOULD HAVE LASTED LONGER THAN 5 YEARS.

Sep 2019

THERE WAS A RECALL FOR FRAME RUST ON TACOMA TRUCKS BETWEEN 2005-2010. MY TRUCK WAS AFFECTED WITH THIS RECALL AND I TOOK IT TO A TOYOTA DEALER IN DEC 2014 FOR EVALUATION. THE DEALER SAID THE FRAME WAS FINE BUT THEY APPLIED A CORROSION PROTECTION SPRAY AND SAID THAT WOULD PROTECT THE FRAME. IN AUGUST 2019, WE NOTICE A GOOD BIT OF RUST ON THE FRAME AND TOOK IT TO A DIFFERENT TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY SAID THERE'S A LOT OF RUST AND THE FRAME IS RUSTED THROUGH. IN 2014 WHEN TREATED AS A SOLUTION TO THE RECALL, THE TRUCK HAD 56,853 MILES ON IT. IN AUGUST 2019 WHEN WE TOOK IT IN FOR EVALUATION, THE TRUCK HAD 75,239 MILES ON IT. SINCE 2014, WE ONLY PUT 19,092 MILES ON THE TRUCK. ATTACHED IS SOME PHOTO'S OF THE FRAME AND 1 OF THE TRUCK TO SHOW THE CONDITION OF THE VEHICLE. MY COMPLAINT IS WE DID WHAT WE WERE SUPPOSED TO DO WHEN THE RECALL WAS ACTIVE AND WE WERE TOLD THE CORROSION PROTECTION SPRAY WOULD PROTECT THE FRAME BUT NOW I HAVE A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE FRAME IS RUSTED THROUGH AND PER THE DEALER THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO BECAUSE THERE'S NO OPEN PROGRAM. IF PROTECTED, WHY DID THE FRAME RUST THROUGH WITH VERY LITTLE MILES ON IT. I'M GOING USE THE DATE AS AUGUST 7, 2019 SINCE THAT'S WHEN THE DEALER SAID THE FRAME WAS RUSTED THROUGH.
