Brake booster faulty, alert continuously came on and off while driving at different speeds created drastic changes in cars braking ability that were potentially hazardous if driver did not pull over.
While driving approx 20MPH while turning a corner in a neighborhood, the FAULT BRAKE BOOSTER warning went off and braked my vehicle. The car continued to flash this warning and the brakes were not easily depressed (felt somewhat like when ABS happens in icy roads). This happened multiple times until I could get home.Took the vehicle to VW dealer and they replaced a sensor. 3 weeks later the same warning and braking situation happened while in a parking lot. Returned to dealer and still being evaluated. Online, this is a recall for 2019 Atlas' but not for my VIN. Concerned this should be included in a recall. Worried for my safety as this has happened multiple times including after repair and causes the car brakes to go automatically and unexpectedly.
At random times, at random speeds, my instrument lights will illuminate with a beep and display the brake light. Sometimes just the brake icon, sometimes the brake and ABS, and sometimes both along with the engine light. At the same time my vehicle will violently brake on its own. When I depress the brake pedal to gain control the pedal is "jerky", rigid, and difficult to push in. Sometimes this lasts for a moment, sometimes longer. This is very dangerous and seems to occur more frequently. A 'Brake Booster Faulty' message appears on the dash.then dissappears
My vehicle Beeps loudly and says “BRAKE BOOSTER FAULTY”. My brakes become spongy or hard to engage and I usually have to start the car over again. This has become a frequent issue and I’m afraid to drive my vehicle now. I’ve tried to catch a video but I can never get my phone out in time.. I am shocked that this is a common issue and it has yet to be recalled.
The vehicle will make a loud alarm and the dash will display "Brakes Booster Faulty". The vehicle then will brake itself regardless of where you are and brake pedal will not work properly. This could cause you to get rear-ended as the vehicle will simply stop!
Suddenly Warning lights illuminate- Brake Booster Faulty, Start Error, ABS. Brakes then feel spongy, jerky hard to slow down and stop safely. Vehicle then needs to be towed to dealership for repair - vacum sensor C10A301 replaced. This has happened three times 4/22/21, 8/5/21 and 6/7/23. Dealership claims to need the part for refund from VW for warranty repair. This is a dangerous situation and needs to be remedied, especially as this is a family car.
I have had the same issue with this car since I’ve bought it when. The issue is that often my dash beeps and says faulty break booster and then my breaks lock up and become spongy and the vehicle has issues breaking. Very scary and very dangerous. Then the “break” warning indicator light illuminates and the vehicle eventually resets itself and goes back to normal functioning. My vehicle has been at the dealer at least four times during the warranty period for this exact same problem. It has also been there for a recall for rattling noises, air hissing out of gas tank when gas cap is unscrewed, and air conditioner going out. My car is currently in shop again for FAULTY BREAK BOOSTER. Others are having this same problem all over the internet. I want VW to honor me a manufacture buyback which I have already initiated the process for as my car meets the Louisiana Lemon Law Criteria’s. I want VW to fix these problems on this model for future consumers as well. I have submitted all of my supporting documents to VWGOA
Warning light indicated BRAKE BOOSTER FAULTY, brake light came on and brakes felt different pressing down.
At random time, during slower speeds, many vehicle would “jerk” mad produce a Brake Booster Faulty warning and the brake light would illuminate on the console. The brakes would then become “spongy” and difficult to operate. The light would stay in, or turn off after a while and driving would resume as normal. Difficult to replicate but scary how random it is.
While driving, the instrument cluster will light up with red warnings about the braking system not available, I remember seeing "brake booster" in the warning, and need to pull over immediately. At that point, it feels that I have lost the brake booster and I need to step on the brakes very hard to stop. It is scary, as it occurred while driving in the city, with speeds from 30-35 mph and cars behind. It has happened 3 times over 9 months. It is not easy to reproduce as I don't know what causes it. Whe it happens again, if its safe I will try to take a picture as well. Similar people have had the same issues: https://www.vwvortex.com/threads/brake-booster-faulty-alert-while-driving.9175137/
I was travelling at about 60 mph on a two lane road with no area to pull over. The car all the sudden slowed and to keep speed required alot more rpm. I found a place to pull over. I saw no lights but as I tried to get back on the road the traction control light came on. I thought it was because I was in some dirt. But as tried to get back to speed the car started to smell, was very sluggish, and required more power than ever before to come close. I pulled over again to find that the brakes were smoking. From my estimate the brakes were on this whole time. I shut the car down and then everything was fine again, if I left my foot off the gas and had the car in drive it would slowly move forward. Then the whole thing happened again, I could tell the behavior because the car would drop speed and then engine would be reving trying to keep speed. I pulled over again to restart the car to get it back to normal. This whole process at least 4 more times. Sometimes it happened after braking for a little bit and other times withoutbdping anything.
I originally had this "wiring harness" repaired on 4/22/21 because the car went wacky. This repair was done at Hendrick VW in Concord NC. In March 2022 I began to have issues again. I was on the way to the same dealer to have the oil changed and the vehicle randomly just slammed on brakes while driving. I informed Olga at the dealership and was told it was the wiring harness again. They had no clue when the harness would be in because it was backordered. May 11, 2022 while driving at approximately 40 miles per hour on a BUSY major road, my vehicle engaged the emergency brake and suddenly stopped. Multiple people slammed on brakes and swerved to avoid hitting me almost killing me. i took it to the same dealer and informed them it almost killed me, they were real quick to replace the harness again (although there was none in stock anywhere) and got me and out of the shop. i opened a case with volkswagen who told me they werent going to do anything about it because it hasnt been repaired 3 times and it wasnt in the shop 10 days, although i told them as well the car almost killed me. they are refusing to do anything and i dont feel safe in my car but have no choice
The steering wheel shakes uncontrollably when braking going past 50mph. Took it in to VW dealership several times and they didn’t know the cause of the shaking. They said the rotors and the brakes were still good.
I was sitting at a stoplight when the vehicles in front of me started moving forward. I took my foot off the break so that I could roll forward slowly and my emergency brake engaged without me pushing the emergency brake button. At first I thought I had been hit from behind because I was jolted forward but when I looked at my dash the red PARK light was lit. And then turned off on its own.
MULTIPLE TIMES THE SUV WILL AUTOMATICALLY BREAK WITH THE PARKING BREAK. IT HAS HAPPENED WILL TRYING TO TAKE OFF FROM A LIGHT. AND WHILE DRIVING. CITY STREET
AUTONOMOUS BREAKING OCCURS WITHOUT WARNING WITH NOTHING ON THE ROAD. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON SEVERAL OCCASION, BUT TODAY (09/16/2020) THIS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH ON APD 40 IN CLEVELAND, TENNESSEE WITH NO OBSTRUCTION IN FRONT OF VEHICLE. DASHCAM FOOTAGE MAY BE AVAILABLE, I'LL CHECK LATER TODAY TO SEE IF IT WAS CAPTURED.
MY BRAKES HAVE LOCKED UP 4 OR 5 TIMES (SINCE PURCHASING THE CAR IN APRIL 2019) WHEN EXITING A PARKING LOT WITH MINIMAL SLOPE TO TURN ONTO THE STREET. THE CAR MAKES A GRINDING NOISE AND ALERTS BEEP. THE CAR MUST BE PLACED IN PARK, THEN REVERSE TO MAKE THE DRIVE FEATURE FUNCTION AGAIN TO GET OUT OF THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. THE FORCE OF THE BRAKING, LOCKS UP THE SEAT BELTS AS WELL. THANKFULLY NO ONE HAS BEEN BEHIND ME TO AVOID REAR END COLLISION NOR ONCOMING. I AM NERVOUS TO PULL OUT OF A DRIVEWAY NOW
THE BRAKES ACTIVATED ON THEIR OWN WHILE IN MOTION, AND THE CAR CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. NO CARS WERE IN FRONT OF ME OR ANYTHING ELSE THAT SHOULD HAVE ACTIVATED THE AUTOMATIC COLLISION PREVENTION SYSTEM. THE CAR BEHIND ALSO HAD TO STOP TO AVOID CRASHING INTO MY REAR. THE AUTOMATIC COLLISION PREVENTION SYSTEM IS SUPPOSED TO BE A SAFETY FEATURE BUT NEARLY CAUSED A COLLISION.
AUTOMATIC BRAKING STOPS CAR WHEN EXITING PARKING LOT ONTO MAIN ROAD, COULD NOT PULL STRAIGHT OUT OF PARKING LOT. EMERGENCY BRAKING DEPLOYED 3 TIMES. ON COMING TRAFFIC HAD TO STOP BECAUSE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE UNIT I TURNED SYSTEM OFF. MULTIPLE CARS WERE BEHIND ME AND COULD NOT BACK UP ENOUGH TO NOT BLOCK TRAFFIC. NO OBSTRUCTIONS WHERE IN FRONT OF ME JUST SLIGHTLY STEEPER ANGLE EXITING PARKING LOT.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A ROAD GOING 35 MPH AND SUDDENLY THE AUTOMATIC BRAKING SYSTEM ENGAGED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SLAM ON ITS BRAKES ALMOST COMPLETELY STOPPING. THERE WAS NO ADVANCE WARNING THAT THIS WAS GOING TO OCCUR (E.G. SOUND OR DASHBOARD ALERT). FURTHER THERE WERE NO CARS IN FRONT OF ME, NO PEDESTRIANS, OR ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE FRONT COLLISION AUTOMATIC BRAKING TO ENGAGE. THANKFULLY THERE WAS NO VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY BEHIND ME OR THEY WOULD HAVE SURELY CRASHED INTO ME.
AUTOMATIC COLLISION BRAKING SYSTEM ENGAGES IN SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED BRAKING WHEN THERE IS NO OBSTACLE (OR CARS) NEAR VEHICLE. AUTOMATIC BRAKES HAVE STOPPED CAR TO A HALT WITHOUT WARNING WHEN DRIVING ON OR TURNING ON SLIGHT SLOPE CITY STREET THAT LEVELS OUT TO THE ROAD. THE SUDDEN BRAKING HAS ALMOST CAUSED COLLISIONS AS VEHICLE STOPS FOR NO REASON WITHOUT WARNING IN MIDDLE OF STREET/TRAFFIC. VERY CONCERNED AS NO WAY TO TURN OFF SYSTEM AND AFRAID TO DRIVE VEHICLE FOR FEAR IT WILL STOP AUTOMATICALLY FOR NO REASON IN HEAVIER TRAFFIC OR ON BRIDGE WHERE ANGLE OF ROAD/BRIDGE MAY SLOPE. THE SUDDEN BRAKING HAS OCCURRED TWICE THIS WEEK AT LOCATION I HAVE TO DRIVE TO EVERY DAY AND CANNOT BYPASS.
VEHICLE HAS A FAULTY FRONT FACING CAMERA THAT HAS OR HAD A DATA ISSUE THAT CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO IMMEDIATELY STOP WITHOUT WARNING AND THE PARKING BRAKE TO ENGAGE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO TOM WOOD VOLKSWAGEN WHERE THEY CONFIRMED THE ISSUE, AND SAID IT HAD HAPPENED SOME PLACE ELSE AS WELL. THIS WILL EASILY CAUSE REAR IMPACT CRASHES BECAUSE THE VEHICLE ABRUPTLY STOPS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT WARNING.
FROM THE PARKING LOT OF A LARGE SHOPPING CENTER WE TRIED TO TURN ONTO THE MAIN ROAD. WE PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL AND STARTED TO ACCELERATE, WENT A FEW FEET AND THEN THE CAR SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES ITSELF WHEN WE WERE ABOUT HALFWAY INTO THE LANE. WE THEN HAD TO PRESS ON THE ACCELERATOR A FEW TIMES AND IT FINALLY KICKED IN AND STARTED MOVING AGAIN. THANKFULLY NO ONE WAS COMING IN THAT LLANE AS WE WERE STOPPED HALFWAY IN IT. THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED THE NEXT DAY AND THEN IT ALSO HAPPENED TWO TIMES IN REVERSE BACKING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY.
CAR BRAKES BY ITSELF THINKING THERE IS ANOTHER VEHICLE IN FRONT OF IT. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON 3 OCCASIONS TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER AND THEY SAY EVERYTHING IS OK DONT FOLLOW TO CLOSE. THEY SEEM TO NOT UNDERSTAND THAT THERE IS NO VEHICLE IN FRONT OF OUR CAR. THIS COULD BE A PRETTY BAD SITUATION IF THE VEHICLE DESIDES TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES WITH A SEMI TRUCK BEHIND YOU.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 VOLKSWAGEN ATLAS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE SAFETY FEATURE ENGAGED WHEN DRIVING ON AN INCLINE OR OVER BUMPS IN THE ROAD. THE SAFETY FEATURE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE AREA EMITTED A BEEPING AND GRINDING NOISE WHEN THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN. THE CONTACT HAD TO PLACE THE GEAR INTO PARK, THEN REVERSE, AND THEN RESTART THE ENGINE TO REGAIN NORMAL FUNCTION. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH LARRY H. MILLER VOLKSWAGEN (10205 WEST PAPAGO FWY, AVONDALE, AZ 85323, (480) 865-3991) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PERFORMING NORMALLY AND THE SAFETY FEATURE ENGAGED WHEN IT SENSED AN INCLINE. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE MANEUVER BRAKING SYSTEM COULD BE DISENGAGED TO STOP THE INCLINE DETECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,500.
