THE PASSENGER OCCUPANCY SENSOR MAT GIVES AN ON AND OFF FAULTY SIGNAL TO THE COMPUTER. EVERY OTHER CAR START (STATIONARY), THE AIRBAG FAULT RELATED TO THE PASSENGER OCCUPANCY SENSOR IS ILLUMINATED AND REMAINS ON UNTIL NEXT CAR START.
AIR BAG LIGHT JUST CAME ON, HAD IT CHECKED BUT STILL THERE
SEAT SENSOR OCCUPANCY MAT MALFUNCTION: WHY IS BMW NOT VOLUNTARILY RECALLING OR EXTENDING THIS WIDESPREAD KNOWN ISSUE BMWS? THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM ACROSS MANY MODELS OF BMWS, FORUMS ARE FILLED WITH SO MANY COMPLAINTS. AFTER MARKET MANUFACTURERS HAVE CREATED MODULES TO BYPASS THIS SENSOR, WHICH APPARENTLY IS GOING TO CAUSE HAZARDOUS CONDITION FOR SOME OF THE OWNERS. THERE'S A CONSTANT DISPLAY ON THE DASHBOARD THAT SAYS, "PASS-RESTRAINT SYSTEM MALFUNCTION". APPARENTLY IT'S QUITE A COMMON ISSUE ACROSS MANY BMWS AND UNFORTUNATELY BMW HAS NOT ACKNOWLEDGED IT FOR ALL MODELS AND HAVE DONE THE RECALL FOR LIMITED MODEL BETWEEN 2006 AND 2007, 2008 WAS LATER ADDED BUT MY CAR WAS ACTUALLY MANUFACTURED IN 2009 SO I BELIEVE THIS RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXTENDED BEYOND 2008. ON THE FORUMS, I SAW AND READ OWNERS OF 2011 AND 2012 ALSO REPORTING THIS ISSUE.

SIMILAR TO THE DEFECT FOUND WITH OTHER BMW CARS AND SUVS, THE PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR HAS CRACKED RENDERING THE AIRBAG SYSTEM FOR THE PASSENGER SEAT INOPERABLE IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH.

I CONTENT THE SAME ISSUE EXTENDS INTO LATER YEARS AND SHOULD RECEIVE THE SAME LEVEL OF SUPPORT FROM BMW. A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE WAS FILED IN MARCH 2016 STATING THE FOLLOWING: "IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH NECESSITATING DEPLOYMENT OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG, EXCESSIVE INTERNAL PRESSURE COULD CAUSE RUPTURING OF THE AIRBAG INFLATOR, RESULTING IN METAL FRAGMENTS STRIKING THE DRIVER OR OTHER PASSENGERS, POTENTIALLY RESULTING IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH." IT HAS BEEN OVER A YEAR, AND BMW STILL ALLEGES THAT PARTS ARE STILL NOT AVAILABLE TO FIX THIS ISSUE.

I NEED MY AIRBAG TO BE REPLACED SINCE LAST YEAR AND BMW DEALERS ALL THE TIME IS JUST SAYING THAT THE PART IS NOT AVAILABLE. IT HAD BEEN HAPPENING FROM LAST YEAR. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT REPLACE THE AIR BAGS.

REC'D RECALL NOTICE IN 3/2016, TALKED W/DEALER SHORTLY AFTER AND THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PARTS, THEN AGAIN 6/29/2016 STILL NO PARTS, HAD SERVICE DONE IN EARLY 2017 AND ASKED AGAIN, WAS TOLD THEY EXPECT SHIPMENT IN NEXT COUPLE MONTHS--"LIKELY TAKATA BUT NOT SURE". CALLED 6/29/2017 EXPECT PARTS END OF SUMMER; BMW WILL SEND LETTER & THEN I TO CALL FOR SERVICE. LAST CALLED DEALER 8/23/2017 AND STILL NO PARTS AND NO ESTIMATE OF WHEN THEY MIGHT GET THEM, TOLD ME TO WAIT FOR LETTER FROM BMW. I THINK OF THIS POTENTIAL HAZARD EVERY TIME I DRIVE.
