I have a 2018 Honda Accord EX with 104,000 miles. Head gasket blew and coolant is leaking. Upon further research this is a common problem that is now being discovered once the car drives past 60,000 miles. There is an internal memo asking dealers to let them know if they are seeing this too online. Honda has several class action law suits regarding this being a design flaw of the 2018 with the 1.5 liter engine. I spoke with Honda and they offered no assitance, stating out of warranty and no recall. This is their design issue and in my opinion responsible for repairing this. Otherwise out of pocket its a 5k plus repair.

Engine needs replaced already. I started hearing a clicking noise out of no where. I took it to my mechanic and he informed me the engine needs replaced because of bearings

The vehicle started idling rough and would seem like it was going to stall out. Eventually every light came on in the dash board and when I brought it to the shop, the head gasket had blown. This is a 2018 Honda accord with 99k miles. Regular maintenance has always been maintained. Upon doing research, a lot of people with this make/ model and low mileage have had this same issue. This appears to be a mechanical issue caused by the manufacturer.

The first recall email I got was on 12/19/23, in January 2024 I realized I started to have an issue with my fuel pump. So I called my local Honda dealership to get the part replaced at that point they said they didn’t have to part and to check back in a few months. I was told I could use fuel pump cleaner in the meantime to help my car’s performance until I can get it replaced. I called again in May they still didn’t have the part so they said to call back in the fall they should have the parts by then. At this point I’ve been having to put fuel cleaner in my car weekly in order for it to be drivable. 9/10/24 I called the dealership they tell me to call back the next day. 9/11/24 they still didnt have the part and I’m on a waiting list. 11/20 I feel my car is becoming to dangerous to drive it started to make a loud noise during acceleration so I contacted a non local dealership and they don’t not have the part either.11/21 my car is now making a whirring sound and now smoking when accelerating so I contacted another non local dealership they had the part so I immediately scheduled an appt for 11/22 at 10:30am to have the part replaced. They said it would take 3-4 hours to fix. I had my boyfriend drive the car to the appt as I am [XXX]. The appt took only 1hr to complete. They said it was done and gave the keys back to him and he left. The car seemed fine to drive in the beginning then about 10 minutes of driving it started back up. He got back home and at this point I am completely frustrated. I have the car towed to my local Firestone to have a diagnostic check ran on it. And it came back the engine is messed up. I am not calling anymore of local dealerships I just want my car towed be fixed. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

At 59/k miles the fuel injectors have all got to be replaced at a cost of 1700. I bought a Honda for reliability. I am learning now online that the fuel injectors on the 2018 Honda Accord are a major problem but there is no recall.

My 2018 Honda Accord with just 81k miles had its head gasket blown. The car has never been modified and I don't drive it hard. I was driving on the highway this past weekend (11/22/2024), and the car went into limb mode and stalled me on the highway. The check engine light started flashing and other lights on the dashboard all came on at once It started misfiring sporadically, so I took it took Honda and they told me due to Engine faulty design, the coolant is leaking into the combustion chamber and flooding the spark plugs, causing misfires. The service advisor at the Honda dealer mentioned that many customers with the same engine are experiencing this exact issue, and that it's only covered under extended warranty, otherwise I would have to pay out of pocket, I was quoted $5700

Took to dealership and determined it was a bad head gasket with a misfire in the cylinder two. Drove to work, about 35 miles. Few hours later went to leave to get a cup of coffee, started car and ALL lights came on dash and seems like every feature cycled through indicated nonfunctional. Drove to dealership, head gasket leak and piston misfiring, $4200. Car is a 2018 Honda Accord EX-L with 62000 miles. Seems strange to have such an extensive issue with a honda with such low miles. Can you investigate. Thanks

I work at a dealership. we have sold 2 2018 Honda accords where all the lights have popped on the dash multiple times. the first one went to the Honda dealer for a diagnostic and came back with fuel injector issues. after replaced, it went back and was told there was a blown head gasket and turbo. the second accord went to a different Honda dealer for a diag and once again was told it was a blown head gasket and turbo. after researching this issue I've found it is a common issue which starts with a misfire, all lights on the dash, and fuel injectors. no one has had any blown head gasket signs as the car overheating or coolant mixed with oil. we have received a third 2018 accord which arrived with a misfire. we have changed spark plugs 4 times as well as the coils. when starting the car it shakes aggressively as if it wants to stall and all the lights keep popping on the dash - the same signs as the previous vehicles. taking it to the dealer for a diagnosis and either it comes back with injectors - which will eventually lead to the head gasket, or straight into the head gasket being blown. there needs to be a recall at least so we are not wasting time and money with all these diagnostics and repairs.

Car started not wanting to accelerate and all of the dash lights came on, thankfully it was on a rural road and not the freeway. My 20 year old daughter was driving and was so startled by what was happening the she almost went into a ditch getting to the side of the road. Hooked it up to a code machine and it said that it was misfiring so we replaced spark plugs and coils. This happened in July of this year (2024). We took it in for both of the recalls, it was a software update and a fuel pump mount replacement. In between changing plugs and coils and doing the recalls the engine started slightly shaking. The engine shaking was listed as a symptom of the bad fuel pump mount so we thought the fix for the recall would take care of the problem. We got it back after the fuel pump mount recall and it ran great for about 2 weeks. And then the shaking came back. We took it to our local Honda dealership and it turns out that it had blown head gaskets. This is a 2018 Honda Accord that has had all of its oil changes. So it seems to me that something is wrong with some components of the engine. Other than all of the indicator lights coming on the one time we never had and check engine lights come on and the car never overheated or if it did the gages never relayed this information. 3 days and 26 miles after picking up my car following the repair for the issue reported in NHTSA issue #11614854, my car again displayed a bunch of various errors on the dashboard and threw P0300, P0301, and P0304 codes via OBDII. I dropped off the car at the dealership and they report that the issue this time is bad fuel injectors. This car has now had 2 major premature powertrain failures before reaching 70k miles that can result in loss of power while operating the vehicle. Losing power on the highway is a serious safety issue so I wanted to report this to the NHTSA for your records.

My head gasket went out while I was driving down the road at around 68425 miles. The result was that the car threw a bunch of error codes and went into limp mode while on the highway. I was fortunately able to pull off into a parking lot due to low traffic at that time of day but it was a major road that is full of vehicles during a busy time of day. This was a safety issue because my car effectively lost power and I was stuck coasting on a road where traffic regularly travels between 45-50+ mph. The head gasket failure was confirmed by the local Honda dealer and was replaced under warranty (certified pre-owned).

Vehicle continues to jerk, stall, and goes into lymph mode. Vehicle stall in flow of traffic which can cause a major accident. The problem has not been confirmed by dealer. The vehicle has not been inspected by dealer. Independent Mechanic states engine stalls under a load. Warning lights that appear are emission system problem, brake system failure, electric power steering problem, engine light, brake system. This began about a month ago only worsening. It occurs upon acceleration. Vehicle has been put in shop. Changed coil pack, spark plugs, injectors. Still that does not solve problem.
