2017 Honda CR-V FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

While driving approximately 40mhp on a city road, without anything in close proximity in front of me, the Automatic Emergency Braking engaged for no reason, causing the car to slow down dramatically. No accident occurred, but this put me at high risk of being rear-ended. On at least 3 previous occasions, while driving on the highway (approx 65mph) the system has flashed the "Brake Now" warning when there was no need to actually brake, though in those circumstances the actual breaks were not engaged, it did startle me to start to break without reason, again causing increased risk for causing an accident.

The failure caused another vehicle to rear-end his vehicle. No injuries were sustained and no medical attention was received. The air bags did not deploy upon impact. No police report was filed. The contact was able to drive away from the scene of the collision. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact related the failure to the automatic emergency braking feature; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.

Was driving down hwy about 60 miles per hour when the car abruptly almost came to a complete stop on its own and the brake light warning flashed up on dashboard display. There were no vehicles on the road ahead of me or, thankfully, behind me. Would have probably went thru windshield if I didn’t have seatbelt on and would have been rear ended if someone had been following me closely. Was extremely shaken up by the incident. Called dealer (Jeff Wyler Honda in Florence, KY)and left a message as got no answer when I called regarding incident. No one from dealership has gotten back with me yet

The automatic braking system slams on the breaks randomly in the middle of the road if an object out of the ordinary is detected. It has happened 3 times and could have risked my safety/life. Today 9/10/22, there was a metal plate in the road to cover a pothole in Memphis TN. I was on Perkins in a very high traffic area and my brakes were applied that brought the car to a literal screeching halt. The last 2 times it happened it was when there were orange road barrels on the side of the road.

Automatic emergency braking activates when there is nothing in the path of the vehicle, no obstructions, no weather issues.

During the incident, the contact sustained injuries to both shoulders and head and neck injuries. No medical treatment was required. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 64,000.

My CRV turns on the emergency braking warning visible on my dash. There is no reason why it should be doing this. It is random. So far the car has not slammed on my brakes it's just giving me the warnings. I have never been in a situation that required emergency braking. Although I have had multiple events I just found this website and used today's date.

Sometimes the braking system will flash even when I am not close to any cars in front of me. I have read reports that the automatic emergency brake system has fully engaged in other cars while driving on the highway and while mine has not fully engaged, it has flashed a warning sign which worries me that one day it will engage fully while I am driving!

The vehicle performed emergency braking suddenly. I was on a straight stretch of road with no vehicles in front or behind me. There was nothing in the road in front of me. It was clear. The vehicle beeped, the "brake" flashed on the instrument cluster and then the vehicle applied the brakes on its own. The episode lasted 1 to 2 seconds. Luckily no one was behind me. The problem has not been reproduced or inspected by the manufacturer or other party.

On Monday, September 12, 2022, while driving approximately 40 mph on a city street, my 2017 Honda CR V suddenly, and on its own, began breaking violently. My vehicle went from 40 mph to 15 mph in a noticeably brief period. A very frightful experience. My wife, who was sitting in the right front passenger seat, and myself were jolted forward. Luckily, there were no vehicles behind me, nor were any vehicles in front of me during this time. I immediately pulled off the street. I shut off the ignition and sat for a few minutes before continuing to my home, approximately two miles away. There was no advanced warning from the vehicle's information system. I called the local Honda dealer and made an appointment to have the vehicle checked. I explained the problem to the Honda service personnel. I was informed that this was a problem known to Honda and I would be notified when a recall notice was issued. In the interim. I was told to disengage the collision mitigation system every time I start the vehicle.

I was driving on a rural/suburban road at approximately 40 mph when my Honda CR-V threw on the brakes and slammed to a complete stop on its own. There were no vehicles in front of me or coming toward me. Fortunately, there were no cars behind me. There was no warning, it just happened. My car has Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) technology on it that causes the car to brake I get close to a car in front of me. I believe it was this system that malfunctioned. My 4-year-old son was in the car with me, and both of our lives would have been in danger if there had been a vehicle behind us. I took it into the Honda dealership and do not plan on driving it again until this issue is resolved.

The local dealer was notified of the failure but a diagnostic test was not performed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 29,000.

I was driving about 35 mph on a city street at 6:45 a.m. There was almost no other traffic — no cars ahead of or behind me. The weather was clear, temperature in the low 30s. I was approaching a red light and coasted toward the intersection, then lightly applied the brakes. The emergency braking system kicked in without warning, and I came to an immediate stop well short of the intersection. The vehicle has 22,400 miles on it. This has never happened before.

Driving at 45mph, the emergency collision detection warning sounded and the brakes were applied. No cars or pedestrians were located in front of the vehicle. This occurred going thru an intersection at 1:30am and luckily there was no traffic present.

I was driving down the highway and all ADAS lights came on and kept repeating. I reset the system but the warnings remained. I took the vehicle to local mechanic who plugged in his scanner. The first thing that popped up was wheel speed sensor along with all the other ADAS warnings. Did alot of research on the internet and found out this was a common problem with the CRV. I decided to buy a new sensor and replace myself. This actually solved the problem. Why do all ADAS lights come on for one problem?

I was driving on I-94 in Chicago on 6-22-2022 at approximately 50mph. There was no one in front or beside me and the AEB system braked on its own and the "BRAKE" alert on the dash flashed momentarily. The car slowed down about 10-20 mph and I brought it back up to speed. This is the only time it has happened and it was terrifying.

CMBS or forward collision warning system misinterpreted several times. Car stopped suddenly for no reason while driving. Nothing was in front of side of the car! It’s really dangerous to drive in this vehicle, that’s why I always turn off my CMBS feature while driving.

Yesterday as I was driving my Honda CRV at about 55 mph on a rural road, it suddenly stopped. There was NOTHING around, no other cars, animals, NOTHING! It took my speed down to about 10 mph in seconds, threw my groceries on the floor HARD. I called two different Honda dealerships and the both told me they hadn't heard any reports of this happening, yet I did a search and found that it IS an issue! The one dealership wants me to bring my car in for inspection to the tune of $139. The problem is, I no longer feel safe driving this car! Fortunately I was on a rural road and not the highway! There have been NO warning message or other symptoms prior to this. The forward collision is the issue. This car is available for inspection. The automatic brake system comes on and brakes with nothing in front of the vehicle while the vehicle is moving at variable rates of speed. Sometimes 25 mph on a country road, sometimes 65 on an interstate. This is putting myself at risk and others for a rear end collision for sudden stops for no reason. I did take it to a dealer who did diagnostics and said there was nothing wrong because the last 5 times there was something in front of me per the computer. I can just confirm this has happened many times w nothing in front of me. They also charged me diagnostics for this and when I contacted Honda they just said my vehicle was not one of the ones affected and was not under warranty any longer or recall. The only light that happens is the brake assist light that states “.brake” and then suddenly beeps at you comes on and the car starts to brake.

There have been four separate incidents now when the automatic braking system has engaged without there being anything in front of me. When this happens, it skips over the chime and notice on the dashboard and goes straight to slamming on the brakes. On all occasions I was traveling under 40 mph and fortunately there was never anyone directly behind me. If there had been someone behind me, I likely would have been rear-ended. I have reported the problem informally the dealership (when I was there for other service), but it's difficult to replicate as this has only happened a handful of times in the last 4-5 years. I do not remember if the dealership specifically investigated the problem on my vehicle.

The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the vehicle independently stopped with an orange-colored warning symbol on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the Forward Collision Avoidance system had engaged while driving under a highway sign. Upon investigation, the contact discovered that an investigation had begun on the vehicle for NHTSA Action Number: PE22003 (Forward Collision Avoidance) which he linked to the failure. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer had been notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 45,000.

On three occasions - most recently on May 22, 2022 - the emergency braking system stopped the car completely for no apparent reason. If there had been cars behind me, all 3 times would have cause collisions. Dealer service department would not acknowledge the problem, even though I explained I had read about other complaints. Vehicle has not been inspected for this specific issue. No warnings prior to the random failures

While driving the emergency braking will automatically slam on the brakes when there is nothing there. It alerts of lane departure when still driving within the lane. Fails to alert of vehicle in blind spot. Issues are intermittent, but I fear they may cause me to wreck.

Many times I will be driving in a highway with NO cars around, and the vehicle breaks and gives me a notification that is activated the emergency breaking system. It is very scary and can cause a serious accident and injury if not resolved.
