WAS PARKED AT GROCERY STORE WHEN A CABLE SNAPPED ON OUR DRIVERS SIDE SLIDING DOOR. POWER WAS LOST TO THE DOOR AND UPON ATTEMPTING TO CLOSE THE MANUALLY THE DOOR FELL OFF AND COULD HAVE POTENTIALLY INJURED SOMEONE AS THE BACK OF THE DOORS CORNER HIT THE GROUND WITH ENOUGH FORCE TO CRUSH IF NOT SEVER A FOOT. THIS LEFT OUR VEHICLE DISABLED AND LEFT US STRANDED.

BOTH MY SIDE DOORS HAVE BEEN BEEN MAKING NOISE. THEN MY PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN. WE USED THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR DOOR INSTEAD. ON THURSDAY, JUNE 11, 2015 WHILE OPENING IT THE ENTIRE DOOR FELL OFF AND SMASHED MY FOOT. BRUISING AND SWELLING ON MY BIG TOE BUT NOTHING TO GO TO ER OVER. ICED IT AND STILL HURTING A FEW DAYS LATER. CALLED HONDA AND THEY SAID IT WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. MY RESPONSIBILITY. OUT OF WARRANTY. RESEARCHED ONLINE AND THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE. DOORS FALLING OFF THEIR VANS! SEEMS RIDICULOUS AND TIME FOR A RECALL. CUSTOMER SERVICE REP SAID THAT IT WAS MY CAR AND THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE TO REPAIR IT. I SAID THAT COINCIDENTALLY I JUST HAD MY VAN IN FOR A RECALL (FUEL PUMP - WAS SMELLING GAS WHILE DRIVING IT) SO THAT'S NOT ENTIRELY TRUE. SOME THINGS THEY DO FIX FOR FREE. THIS SEEMS LIKE A MAJOR PROBLEM. I OPENED THE DOOR FOR MY 9-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER TO GET INTO THE CAR. WHAT IS THE DOOR FELL ON HER?

I WAS DRIVING MY CHILDREN TO SCHOOL, AGES 9 AND 6, AND AS I WAS DRIVING THE SLIDING PASSENGER DOOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OPENED. MY 6 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WHO WAS SITTING NEXT TO THE DOOR SAID "MOMMY THE DOOR IS OPENING". I WAS DRIVING ONLY ABOUT 10 TO 15 MPH AND WAS ABLE TO IMMEDIATELY PULL OVER AND I KEPT ON OPENING AND CLOSING THE DOOR AND WOULD APPEAR TO BE CLOSED BUT AS I CONTINUED TO DRIVE IT WOULD OPEN AGAIN. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE TO SCHOOL WITH MY HAZARDS ON AND IF THE DOOR OPENED AGAIN I WOULD HAVE TO PULL OVER AND OPEN AND CLOSE THE DOOR AGAIN. WHILE THIS WAS HAPPENING WE HEARD A CONTINUOUS BEEPING NOISE LIKE I WOULD HEAR IF THE DOOR WAS OPEN. THIS INCIDENT SCARED MY CHILDREN AND MYSELF AND SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED. I CONSIDER THIS TO BE A MAJOR SAFETY FLAW IN THIS CAR AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. I HAVE A NAVY BLUE COLOR HONDA ODYSSEY 2005. NOW, THAT CAR IS BECOMING A JUNK BECAUSE OF THE PAINT DEFECT. AND IT START CHANGING WITH RUST. PAINT PEELING BECOMES SERIOUS DAY AFTER DAY, ALMOST EVERYWHERE THE TOP OF THE CAR, AND PAINT START TO PEEL BONNET TOO. RECENTLY, I FOUND THAT CERTAIN MODEL CARS WHICH I HAVE HAD PAINT DEFECT, BUT HONDA COMPANY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIX MY CAR BECAUSE THE DATE THEY SAT FOR REPAIRING WAS OVER. THEY NEVER SEND ANY RECALL INFORMATION ABOUT THIS DEFECT. THIS PAINT PEELING ORIGINALLY START FROM THE ROOF, SO IT IS HARD TO NOTICE QUICKLY. IT IS DEFINITELY THE MANUFACTURAL DEFECT, SO HONDA COMPANY HAS TO FIX THIS NO MATTER WHAT DATE CUSTOMERS FIND OUT, AND HONDA HAD TO SEND INFORMATION ABOUT THIS PAINT DEFECT EARLY FOR PREVENTING THIS HAPPENING. LARGE PATCHES OF PAINT HAVE COME OFF THE HOOD, ROOF AND ABOVE THE PASSENGER-SIDE SLIDING DOOR. WASHING THE CAR WITH A STANDARD GARDEN HOSE NOZZLE RESULTS IN PAINT ACTUALLY FLYING OFF THESE BODY PANELS AS IF IT WERE BEING SAND BLASTED. THE FIRST TIME I NOTICED THIS (OCTOBER 2012) WAS LESS THAN ONE YEAR AFTER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY (DEALING WITH THIS PRECISE PROBLEM) RAN OUT. UP UNTIL THIS TIME, THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE PAINT SO IT WOULDN'T HAVE OCCURRED TO THE ORIGINAL OWNER TO AVAIL HIMSELF OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. *TR

OUR 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY LX IS HAVING MASSIVE PAINT PEELING ISSUES. THERE WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY OFFERED FOR THIS PROBLEM A FEW YEARS AGO AND HAS SINCE EXPIRED, BUT AT THE TIME OF THE WARRANTY WE DID NOT NOTICE A PROBLEM. IT NOW HAS 60% PAINT LOSS ON THE ROOF AND PATCHES AS LARGE AS A HAND ON THE BODY ARE PEELING. VAN IS GARAGE KEPT AND WELL MAINTAINED. AFTER CONTACTING THE HONDA DEALERSHIP WHERE VAN WAS PURCHASED, WE WERE TOLD THERE WERE NO HONDA REPS IN OUR AREA TO INSPECT VAN AND THEY DON'T EXPECT ONE UNTIL NEXT MONTH OR SO. THE SERVICE MANAGER IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY SUGGESTIONS OTHER THAN TO WAIT UNTIL THE REP IS AVAILABLE TO INSPECT VAN. BY THE TIME THE REP SEES OUR VAN, WE MAY HAVE NO PAINT LEFT. *TR

FOR THE SECOND TIME, THE PASSENGER SIDE POWER DOOR ON OUR CAR OPENED WHILE WE WERE DRIVING. THE DOORS ARE VERY TROUBLESOME, REFUSING TO CLOSE, SHUTTING ON PASSENGERS AND EMIT A LOUD BEEPING NOISE WHEN NOT ABLE TO LATCH. NO MATTER WHAT WE DO, WE CANNOT GET THE NOISE TO STOP AND HAVE TO PUT THE DOOR IN MANUAL TO GET THE NOISE TO STOP. AFTER THE FIRST TIME THE DOOR OPENED, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO SAID THE MECHANISMS WERE FINE AND IT WAS PROBABLY A STRING. YESTERDAY IT OPENED ABOUT 5 INCHES WHEN I HAD A CHILD IN THAT SEAT. THE DEALER TOLD US TODAY THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO UNLESS THEY CAN RECREATE IT. HONDA TOLD US TO MAKE SURE THE KIDS WEAR SEAT BELTS. AN ONLINE SEARCH PROVED OUR SITUATION IS NOT UNIQUE. WE ARE SHOPPING FOR A NEW CAR, BUT ARE ASTONISHED AT THE LACK OF CARE HONDA HAS ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THEIR CLIENTS. *TR

ROLLING SIDE DOORS - AND REAR HATCH STRUTS MASSIVE PROBLEMS. BOUGHT CAR IN JAN 2006, NEW. IN 2007 ONE OF THE SIDE DOORS QUIT ROLLING. HAD TO HAVE THE ROLLER REPLACED - COST OVER $700. THEN A YEAR LATER, THE OTHER SIDE ROLLING DOOR WENT OUT. THEN, THE REAR HATCH STRUTS TOTALLY GAVE WAY AND THE REAR HATCH CAME SLAMMING DOWN ABOUT 2 INCHES FROM MY 7 YEAR OLDS HEAD. I CALLED DEALER - HONDA CARLAND IN ROSWELL - THEY COULD CARE LESS. UNTIL I HAD TO RAISED THE ROOF WITH HONDA CORPORATE BEFORE ANYBODY WOULD OFFER TO COVER THE COST TO REPLACE STRUTS. FOR CERTAIN, THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS INJURY TO SOMEONE'S HEAD IF IT FELL ON THEM. AFTER THE HATCH, THEN CAME THE THIRD SLIDING DOOR PROBLEM, AGAIN I HAD TO FIX THE DOOR. SO, THREE DOOR FIXES AT OVER $700 EACH. NOW, IN 2013 FOR THE FOURTH TIME DOOR IS GOING OUT AGAIN. I AM TRADING THE CAR IN BEFORE HAVING IT FIXED. *TR

DURING COLD WEATHER, THE AUTOMATIC REAR PASSENGERS DOORS FAILED TO CLOSE AND LOCK PROPERLY, ALLOWING THE DOORS TO OPEN. THIS ONLY SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN THE TEMPERATURE GETS BELOW 32 DEGREES. POWER SLIDING DOOR ON 05' HONDA ODYSSEY FELL OFF WHEN UNLOADING MY CHILDREN FROM THE VEHICLE. THE MIDDLE BRACKET/STRUT THAT HOLDS THE SLIDING DOOR ON THE CENTER RAIL ALONG THE SIDE OF THE VAN TOTALLY FAILED. I WAS AT THE BUS STOP WITH MY CHILDREN AND THE DOOR FELL OFF AS I OPENED THE DOOR TO HELP MY CHILD OUT. I WAS MORTIFIED AS YOU MIGHT IMAGINE. TWO MEN CAME TO MY RESCUE JUST AFTER MY SON JUMPED OUT OF THE WAY. THE DOOR HAS CONCERNED ME FOR SOME TIME BUT I NEVER HEARD OF A SLIDING DOOR FALLING OFF NOR DID THE DEALER MENTION IT. PREVIOUSLY, THE DOOR WOULD CLICK WHEN WE CLOSED IT AND THE AUTOMATIC DOOR WOULD BEEP AND FAIL TO CLOSE. WE HAD THE DOOR CHECKED DURING A ROUTINE SERVICE APPOINTMENT 2-3 YEARS AGO. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS A SENSOR OR POSSIBLY A MOTOR ISSUE. NO ONE SAID ANYTHING ABOUT THE DOOR POSSIBLY FALLING OFF - NOR DID THEY MENTION ANY POTENTIAL BRACKET FAILURE. I WOULD HAVE HAD THAT BRACKET FIXED HAD THEY EVEN HINTED THAT THIS COULD HAPPEN. BUT WHAT'S ALSO VERY DISTURBING IS THAT A FRIEND WITH AN '07 IS HAVING SIGNIFICANT PROBLEMS WITH HER DOORS AS WELL. AFTER MY INCIDENT, SHE IMMEDIATELY WENT AND HAD HER DOOR BRACKETS CHECKED AND FOUND HERS WERE ALSO IMMINENTLY CLOSE TO COMPLETE FAILURE. THEY WERE REPLACED. SHE HAS SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN AND A DOOR FAILURE FOR HER COULD BE CATASTROPHIC. THE DAY OF THIS EVENT I CALLED TWO AREA DEALERS. BOTH SERVICE COUNTER REPS ACKNOWLEDGED THIS BRACKET ISSUE. PARENTS REALLY NEED TO BE WARNED ABOUT THIS. I FEAR HONDA CORPORATE MAY BE IGNORING THE ISSUE WHEN CHILDREN MAY BE HURT. THIS ISN'T A STARTER OR A TRANSMISSION - IT'S A DOOR. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THE ISSUE AND AT LEAST ISSUE A SAFETY BULLETIN OR RECALL. *TR

DRIVERS SIDE REAR PASSENGER 'POWER SLIDING DOOR' (PSD) FAILED TO CLOSE, REQUIRING WIFE AND CHILDREN TO DRIVE TO GARAGE WITH OPEN DOOR, AND DOOR ALARM SOUNDING. DOOR CLOSED NORMALLY AT GARAGE, AND NEITHER THAT MECHANIC NOR THE HONDA DEALER COULD FIND ANY PROBLEM WITH DOOR. PROBLEM REPEATED SPORADICALLY THROUGH THE YEARS, AND DEALER COULD NEVER RESOLVE PROBLEM. I DISCOVERED THAT I COULD MANUALLY ASSIST THE DOOR TO CLOSE AND, WITH SEVERAL TRIES, GET IT CLOSED. BECAUSE OF THE HAZARDS IN HAVING TO DRIVE TO A MECHANIC WITH CHILDREN AND AN OPEN PASSENGER DOOR & SCREAMING ALARM, OUR SOLUTION HAS BEEN TO NEVER OPEN THAT DOOR, BUT OCCASIONALLY A PASSENGER HAS UNKNOWINGLY OPENED IT, CAUSING DIFFICULTY CLOSING IT. OVER THE YEARS I'VE OBSERVED THAT THIS FAILURE HAPPENS WHENEVER THE VEHICLE IS PARKED ON A NOTICEABLE INCLINE. I SUGGESTED TO THE HONDA SERVICE MANAGER THAT SOME MECHANICAL PART MAY BE LOOSE, CAUSING BINDING IN THE TRACK, BUT HE ALWAYS REPORTED THAT EVERYTHING ABOUT THE MECHANISM WAS "FINE". I DISCOVERED TODAY THAT NHTSA ACTION NUMBER 10016777 AND HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN NUMBER 204110 WERE ISSUED IN 2005, RELATING TO THIS PROBLEM. THE HONDA DEALER WAS, OR SHOULD HAVE BEEN, AWARE OF THE DEFECT EACH TIME I RETURNED TO THEM TO FIX IT UNDER WARRANTY. I BELIEVE THIS FLAW SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR REPAIR: THERE IS A GENUINE SAFETY HAZARD TO A VEHICLE FULL OF CHILDREN WHEN HAVING TO DRIVE TO A GARAGE WHEN A DOOR REFUSES TO CLOSE. *TR

WHILE ON VACATION, THE ELECTRIC SLIDING DOOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FAILED IN SUCH A WAY THAT THE DOOR COULD NOT BE OPENED MORE THAN A FEW INCHES. WE WERE STILL ABLE TO CLOSE THE DOOR AND SAFELY DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS NO WAY TO MANUALLY OVERRIDE THE ELECTRIC OPENING MECHANISM WHERE IT WAS STUCK, SO THE DOOR COULD NOT BE USED. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER, THE DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR ALSO FAILED. IN THIS CASE, THE DOOR WAS STUCK HALF OPEN AND COULD NOT BE MOVED EITHER TO FULLY OPEN IT OR CLOSE IT. THE DOOR WAS STUCK OPEN UNTIL WE COULD GET THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE ELECTRICALLY OPERATED DOORS SHOULD BE DESIGNED IN SUCH A WAY THAT ALLOWS EASY MANUAL OPERATION OF THE DOORS IN THE EVENT OF A FAILURE OF THE ELECTRIC MOTOR AND OPENING MECHANISM. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR HATCH WAS OPENED USING THE AUTOMATIC KEY FOB. THE REAR HATCH THEN CAME IN CONTACT WITH A POLE LOCATED OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND THE HATCH BEGAN TO CLOSE BUT IT COULD NOT BE CLOSED BECAUSE THE HATCH WAS KNOCKED OUT OF ALIGNMENT BY THE POLE. AS A RESULT, THE REAR HATCHED CONTINUED TO AUTOMATICALLY OPEN AND CLOSE UNTIL THE CONTACT SLAMMED IT CLOSED. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED CONCERN BECAUSE THE REAR HATCH CONTINUED TO UNINTENTIONALLY OPEN AND CLOSE INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING TO SPECIFICATIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

THE DRIVER SIDE REAR SLIDING DOOR STUCK CLOSED. SON COULD NOT GET OUT. PANICKED STATE BECAUSE HE WENT BACK TO GET SOMETHING FROM VAN AND CLOSED THE DOOR WHILE HE LOOKED FOR IT. COULD NOT GET OUT AS DOOR WAS STUCK. HE TRIED TO OPEN SEVERAL TIMES, BUT NO USE. DOOR WILL NOT OPEN MANUALLY OR AUTOMATICALLY. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A BIGGER PROBLEM IF IT WERE SUMMER HERE IN PHOENIX ARIZONA AS THE TEMPERATURE COULD HAVE BEEN 115 DEGREES OR HIGHER OUTSIDE MAKING THE TEMPERATURE AT LEAST 20-30 DEGREES HOTTER INSIDE. LUCKILY THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS IN THE 80'S IN THE PHOENIX AREA TODAY. WE VISIT OUR RELATIVES IN ARIZONA AT LEAST ONCE EVERY YEAR AND CANNOT AFFORD TO HAVE DOOR ISSUES ON OUR ALMOST 3,000 MILE ROUND TRIP. WE HAVE 2 CHILDREN AND FOR SAFETY REASONS CANNOT HAVE OUR DOORS FAIL TO CLOSE OR OPEN PROPERLY FOR ANY REASON, AT ANY TIME! *TR
