Both of my passenger sliding doors failed, resulting in both of them opening while driving with my children in the back seats. In August 2022, my driver side passenger door swung wide open while I was driving the car, with the error on the dashboard showing door open. Took the car to Honda Dealership, who stated that the door latch failed and replaced the door latch. Now, a year later, in October 2023, the same issue happened on the passenger side. The door swung wide open while driving, with the same error appearing on the dashboard. This time, Honda refused to fix it and demanded that we pay $800 for the fix. How do latches on both doors fail?
The sliding doors do not work properly when the windows are down. When the windows are up and you open the door you hear a clicking noise locking the door in place. If the windows are down when opening the doors they do not “click” and the door can slide closed. This is a bigger issue when parked on a hill or slight decline as the door can slam shut on small kids. If the windows are down when opening the door you need to use one arm or your body to keep the door open while you buckle kids up. Or just make sure windows are up.
Power rear sliding door will not close properly.
Driver and Passenger Sliding Doors have issues closing sometimes. It would close ranging from 70% to 90% of the way, and then slide back open. This happens occasionally enough to not have confidence in the doors consistently closing. We made sure there were no obstructions to the door, as well as nothing preventing the sliding rail roller from completing full movement. The family would have to attempt to shut it several failed attempts, sometimes up to as much as 10 x times, until it closes. This happens randomly to both driver and passenger sliding doors. This happens every thousand miles or so, and has happened since owning the vehicle. Recall was previously performed on the sliding doors for a seperate issue, but this issue still persist, and am pretty much sure it will continue to happen through the life of the van.
After having the odyssey repaired for the recall rear passenger door latches, the rear passenger door still continues to open randomly, it has happened on multiple occasions while the vehicle is parked (at a park) with no one near the vehicle, at least twice since the repair while the vehicle is going between the speeds of 35-45 mph the rear passenger door on the driver side slides open.
The driver side sliding door will open automatically but will not close. Gives me 3 beeps and doesnt attempt to close. I unplugged the pinch sensor and checked to see if that was the problem but the pinch sensor works as its supposed to. When I plug the pinch sensor back in the motor works to close for a little while but will eventually stop closing soon after. I have repeated this step multiple times and get the same results. The door has done this every now and then up until the last time they did a software update and now it almost always does this.
Passenger sliding doors will freeze in process of closing. Must manually disengage power feature and reset door to fully close. Door will be anywhere from 80% to 95% closed when it fails.
The rear tailgate shocks have weakned up with vehicle just having 32500 miles. When you open rear automatic tailgate the tailgate opens completely and starts to slowly lower down while unloading belongings. When you suddenly looking back the tailgate will be half way down and can hit over head. I myself got hurt and don't let my wife use it.
This is regarding the sliding door recall that happened a few months ago. Honda replaced it via recall. NHTSA RECALL NUMBER:20V-437 MFR CAMPAIGN ID: A88 CAMPAIGN DESCRIPTION:2018-20 Ody Sliding Door Outer Handle Cables Safety Recall RECALL DATE:07/28/2020 After getting this fixed by Honda, now while driving the car at a certain speed, the System would throw error information, that the right slide door has not closed properly. Even the door is locked, The error is not constant, but it gives errors on and off while driving. This creates confusion for the driver while the vehicle is moving. I guess the recall fix has caused further damage to the sliding door. I have a kid and it concerns me the safety of kids who sit closer to the door. Would like you guys to take a look at this ASAP before a disaster occurs.
SINCE LATE LAST YEAR, MY 2018 ODYSSEY HAD BEEN HAVING SOME ISSUES WITH THE SLIDING DOOR. SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T CLOSE TILL I HIT THE BUTTON MULTIPLE TIMES SO FINALLY, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD ME MY CESS HARNESS IS KINKED AND WOULD COST ME $485 FOR REPLACING IT. THE DOOR HAD AT LEAST A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT RECALLS IN THE PAST YEAR. THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 6500 MILES AND THESE WIRES ARE NOT SUPPOSE TO GO BAD THAT FAST.
MY DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR WON'T CLOSE ALL THE WAY AND KEEPS REOPENING WHEN I AM IN PARK POSITION. IT HAS BEEN LOOKED AT MULTIPLE TIME AND RECALLS HAVE BEEN DONE BUT STILL DOES IT EVERY DAY. BECAUSE IT DOESN'T DO IT ALL THE TIME THE DEALERSHIP DOESN'T WANT TO FIX IT. IT'S BEEN DOING IT SINCE WE BOUGHT THE CAR NEW SINCE 2018.
POWER SLIDING DOORS SITTING ON THE EXTERIOR BODY WHEN OPENED. DOORS OPEN AGAIN RIGHT AFTER PRESSING CLOSE BUTTON.
WHILE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY, AFTER CLOSING THE REAR DOOR. THE DOOR LATCH WILL NOT ALWAYS HOLD THE REAR DOOR IN A FULLY CLOSED CONDITION, CAUSING A DOOR OPEN WARNING CONDITION. IT MAY TAKE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO FORCEFULLY SLAM THE REAR DOOR CLOSED BEFORE IT LOCKS CORRECTLY. THIS HAPPENS MULTIPLE TIMES EACH MONTH. ON VEHICLE WITHOUT AUTO CLOSING REAR DOOR OPTION.
METAL BAR ON THE SIDE SLIDE BACK CAUSING CAN'T CLOSE TAIL GATE OR HARD TO OPEN. HONDA DOESN'T KNOW WHAT CAUSE IT. I AM NOT SURE WHETHER IT HAS TO DO WITH SLIDING DOOR RECALL THAT IT NOT LATCH (WHICH ALREADY FIXED) OR SLIDE DOOR PUSH THIS SIDE METAL BAR BACK WHEN OPEN. HONDA TECH SAID THEY SAW IT IN MORE THAN 5 VEHICLES, IT CATCHED IT BEFORE 35K, HONDA WILL COVER UNDER WARRANTY. BUT MY CAR IS OVER 35K SO IT NOT COVER EVEN UNDER EXTEND WARRANTY. IT COSTS $140 TO REPLACE. I AM MORE CONCERN FOR MY KIDS SAFETY, IF THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT CAUSE IT. IT HAPPENED AFTER I COME IN FOR RECALL OF POWER REPLACEMENT IN THE BACK.
THE ELECTRICAL SLIDING DOOR IS OPENING ON ITS OWN AT NIGHT. I WAS NOT SURE IF THIS WAS RECALLED ON THIS VEHICLE. I COULD NOT FIND IT. WE ALSO HAD A 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY THAT THE SLIDERS HAD THE SAME ISSUE AND WAS RECALLED. I BELIEVE THIS IS RECALLED FOR DOORS OPENING WHILE DRIVING. IT HAD HAPPENED PREVIOUSLY BEFORE HAPPENING LAST NIGHT.
WHEN AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR OPEN/CLOSE IS ENABLED THE DOOR WILL OPEN, BUT WILL NOT CLOSE. WHEN THE DOORS ARE PLACED IN MANUAL MODE, THE DOOR PANEL COMES LOOSE FROM THE FORCE OF THE DOOR CLOSING MAKING IT SO THE DOOR CANNOT BE OPENED BECAUSE THE LOOSE DOOR PANEL EXTENDS OUT JUST FAR ENOUGH TO WEDGE ITSELF LIKE A DOOR STOP.
SUDDEN 'POP' NOISE WAS HEARD AS COMING TO A STOP ON EXIT RAMP OF HIGHWAY. FOUND OUT THAT THE SUNROOF GLASS WAS BROCKEN IN PIECES. TOOK IT TO DEALER AND THEY DETERMINED THAT SOMETHING MUST HAVE HIT IT WITHOUT LOOKING AT THE VEHICLE. INVESTIGATION NEEDS TO BE DONE ON VEHICLE PRIOR TO CUSTOMER PAYING FOR THE SINCE AMERICAN HONDA WOULD NOT PAY FOR THE GLASS. THE DEALER WRAP THE GLASS OVER BUT STILL THOROUGH INVESTIGATION HAS NOT BEEN DONE. CALLED AMERICAN HONDA AND THEY FILED IT AS COMPLAINTS AND BELIEVES WHAT DEALER SAYS SINCE TECHNICIAN IS THEIR INVESTIGATOR. VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN LOOKED AT BY ANY TECHNICIAN YET.
VEHICLE WAS PARKED OFF STREET IN FREEZING COLD OVERNIGHT, UPPER TWENTIES, 32F WHEN THIS HAPPENED. VEHICLE IS PARKED NOT IN MOTION, REMOTE STARTED. DRIVER DOOR WOULD GET LOCKED IMMEDIATELY WHEN UNLOCKED FROM OUTSIDE, MULTIPLE TRIES TO PULL THE DOOR HANDLE WOULD UNLOCK AND LOCK IMMEDIATELY AND EVENTUALLY OPEN THE DOOR. ONCE DRIVER GETS IN, AND CLOSES THE DOOR, IT IS LOCKED FROM INSIDE AND WOULD NOT OPEN. DOOR LOCK SWITCH, DRIVER DOOR HANDLE AND KEY FOB FAIL TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM INSIDE. ONLY WAY TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE IS THROUGH A PASSENGER DOOR. IF THE VEHICLE IS UNLOCKED, DRIVER DOOR CAN BE OPENED FROM OUTSIDE BUT NOT INSIDE, JUST LIKE A CHILD LOCK WORKS ON A PASSENGER DOOR. ANOTHER TRICKY WAY TO OPEN DRIVER DOOR IS TO UNLOCK, ROLL DOWN THE DRIVER WINDOW AND PULL THE HANDLE FROM OUTSIDE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE CONTACT WAS REMOVING ITEMS FROM THE VEHICLE WITH THE PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR OPEN. THE SLIDING DOOR WOULD INADVERTENTLY CLOSE, CAUSING THE CONTACT TO BECOME PINNED BETWEEN THE SLIDING DOOR AND THE DOOR FRAME. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000.
I HAVE FOUND THE POWER SLIDING DOOR OPEN WHEN I RETURNED TO MY PARKED VAN. THIS HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 4 TIMES. I HAVE TAKEN MY VAN FOR RECALL 18V-795 WHICH HAS TO DO WITH THE POWER SLIDING DOOR COMPONENTS, BUT I FOUND MY SIDE SLIDING DOOR OPEN AGAIN EVEN AFTER THE RECALL FIX. SO I THINK HONDA HAS NOT COMPLETELY FIXED THE WHOLE PROBLEM.
PANEL BEHIND THE GAS PEDAL AND BRAKE PEDAL IS MISSING. THIS EXPOSES A LARGE AREA OF ELECTRICAL WIRES. A DRIVER WILL EASILY BE ABLE TO GET HIS FEET THERE WHILE STRETCHING HIS LEGS AND INTENTIONALLY MESS UP THE WIRING. THIS IS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE HAZARD AND ALSO A SAFETY HAZARD. PICTURES UPLOADED. EARLIER MODELS (2006 WHICH I OWN) HAS A MAJORITY IF THIS AREA COVERED BY PANEL. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT IS NORMAL FOR 2018 MODELS OF ODYSSEY.
PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR STUCK IN OPEN POSITION AS THE LATCH HAS BROKEN. DOOR WILL NOT CLOSED INTO POSITION. I TRIED TO CLOSE USING MANUAL AND AUTOMATIC DOOR CLOSING OPTIONS TO NO AVAIL. LUCKILY IT HAPPENED IN MY DRIVEWAY SO NO INJURIES OR ACCIDENTS.
AUTOMATIC DOOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE CLOSES AS PASSENGER TRIES TO GET OUT OF THE VAN. DOOR BOUNCES BACK AND FORTH AND ALMOST INJURED THE PASSENGER. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, THE SAME PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WAS BEING OPENED FROM THE OUTSIDE AND HALFWAY AFTER IT OPENED IT BOUNCED AND CLOSED ALMOST INJURING MY SON AND THE PRESCHOOL TEACHER.
BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE REAR SLIDING DOORS OFTEN FAIL TO CLOSE USING THE ELECTRIC CLOSING SYSTEM. THIS IS DANGEROUS IF NOT NOTICED BECAUSE THE DOORS ARE NOT LATCHED. THIS HAPPENS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY.
PURCHASED VEHICLE TOWARDS THE END OF THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY 2018, THIRTY DAYS LATER THE DRIVER FRONT DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE. TRIED UNLOCKING THE DOOR FROM THE KEY FOB AND DOOR REMAINED LOCKED. INSERTED THE KEY IN THE CYLINDER AND WAS A BIT HARD TO TURN THE CYLINDER TO UNLOCK. IN ORDER TO OPEN THE DOOR I HAD TO OPEN THE REAR DRIVER SLIDE DOOR AND COME IN THROUGH THE BACK TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE. EVEN THEN THE INNER DOOR HANDLE WAS HARD TO PULL. THIS CREATE AN ISSUE AND INCONVENIENCE AS THIS IS A FAMILY CAR, HAVING THIS ISSUE IN VERY HUMID DAY ONLY MAKES IT WORSE. I HAVE READ ONLINE THAT PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND THE DEALERS DO NOTHING TO FIX THIS ISSUE. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO OUR LOCAL DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT HONDA IS CURRENTLY INVESTIGATING THE ISSUE. IT HAS BEEN LIKE THIS FOR MONTHS.
