TCM component failed. Cause engine light to come on. During driving I went into reverse and it immediately stopped and shut completely off. If I was on the highway I would be in a severe accident. Hyundai inspected it but won’t give me the diagnosis or the issue with the car specifically. Initially when it happened no lights were on. It just shut down and wouldn’t move. A couple days later check engine came on.
My vehicle is not accelerating properly because of the transmission is failing for no reason. Sometimes it revs up to 4k RPMs and the car is barely moving. This can cause an accident since I can’t merge or change lanes quickly.
Transmission jerks and shakes intermittently while slowly moving forward, can shake very violently, for example, waiting in line or at a stop light with foot on brake/slow release.
The dual clutch transmission is faulty. It jerks, acts like its going to stall and does not accelerate properly. It almost caused an accident while driving through an intersection. The vehicle didn't accelerate moving through the green light and acted like it was going to stall. Very dangerous!
transmission stutters on light acceleration from a rolling stop or after slowing for a turn and then speeding up. It feels like it is jumping between gears. I can recreate it by slowing from 50 mph to 40 mph (you can feel it downshift at or near this speed) and gently accelerate back to 50 mph. The car 'bucks' until it gets fast enough to shift. I can put the car in "manual shift" (it is an automatic transmission) and this doesn't happen. That makes me feel it is a computer shift control issue.
when en route to a Dr. appointment I was hearing a consistent knocking noise coming from the engine bay, the fast the rpm's were the louder the knocking sound. Upon starting the vehicle to leave the Dr. office the knocking was becoming very concerning in volume, so I decided to take it to the dealership approx. less than 4 miles. By the time that i made it to the dealership and had them inspect the noise they stated that they didnt trust the vehicle leaving their lot. It has been under their inspection process ever since. I have been having issues with them honoring the warranty i got with the vehicle upon purchase and the refuse to acknowledge the issue with the known recall on over 83% of the total Hyundai Tucson's of that years production run. When in contact with their "middle man" as she called herself, Hyundai has stated that if the engine is in need of replacement that they will only cover up to 80% of the total repair cost ($9,9**.**) leaving myself with close to $2,000 to pay for a vehicle in warranty.
Vehicle hesitates and vibrates when accelerating from a full stop. It happens on every start since purchasing the vehicle in 2020.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving in traffic, the contact shift gears and the clutch ceased to the floorboard. The contact depressed the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the failure was due to the master cylinder and clutch slave cylinder. The contact was informed that the master cylinder and slave cylinder needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but, no further assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 25,500.
The vehicles transmission sputters and takes 2-4 seconds to accelerate. This consistently happens both from a dead stop and at low speeds. This transmission/ dual clutch lag has almost caused at least 3 accidents. On 2 separate occasions the car almost stalled while making a left turn at an intersection, causing a near missed T-bone accident. The 3rd close call was almost being rear ended and not being able to accelerate away. Luckily, no accident had occurred yet but this transmission issue is without question a safety risk. I have brought the car to the Hyundai service department and have been told that this is common with the dual clutch system and nothing is wrong with the car. I'm sure this is not the first complaint as I have found a plethora if online forums on this particular issue with my exact year and make vehicle. This issue has and will continue to cause accidents until resolved.
The transmission slipped when I try to change lines from the right to the left to turn left into a parking lot. I slow down to look if no one was coming, and whennI try to accelerate the transmission slipped the car behind me speed up to pass me thats when I lost power and my vehicle stop and they hit my car. This transmission issues is been happening, and the dealership keep saying is normal now I dont have warranty and I contact hyundai USA motors and they denied to check the vehicle because the shop repaired the damages. This vehicle feels unsafe and they dont want to take responsibility we dont have other car so we have to keep using it. Even the dealer show no interest in taking it as trade in.
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that since purchasing the vehicle, the vehicle shuddered while driving from a complete stop. There was no warning light illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that upon driving from a complete stop at a traffic light, the accelerator pedal was depressed, and the vehicle shuddered, jerked, and lunged forward, almost causing the contact to crash into the vehicle in front of her. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring while driving from a complete stop. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to duplicate the failure. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 21,000.
The transmission completely disengages and there is 0 power to the car, it just coasts for about 6 seconds and the car slows down. It happens after a turn from a stop, and at slower speeds around 20 - 30 MPH. You push the gas pedal, and nothing happens, the engine does not rev and you just coast (and slow down). If this happens when I’m pulling out in traffic making a left it could be deadly. I promise you there will be accidents due to this defect and I would imagine some people will die because of it. This happens regularly, it is not a one-time incident. I just bought the vehicle a month ago and it's happened 10 to 20 times.
to whom it may concern , I have a 2017 Hyundai Tucson that has really bad and scary engine and transmission issues , this car has had a recall to fix constant bucking of the engine at slow speeds and even after the recall it went right back to the same behavior and has now developed slow acceleration and has even attempted to stall on the highway during lane changes , it is the only car I have and I have had really difficult times with it and the dealership has once again told me that they have no loaners available and that they likely will need a few days to diagnose the issues if any. the latest problem is a rapid rpm acceleration that despite the speed being under 45 it causes a screen to pop up that states (transmission temp high stop safely) flooded at random by another message saying( a condition with your engine control system has been detected and a full system check is recommended at your convenience) along with that , the air conditioner shuts off at random and fills the car with humid smelly air. they refuse to do anything @ the dealership except give excuses as these warnings and car behaviors come and go as they please and without the evidence they can't fix what is not visibly broken. as a struggling American I can't receive the treatment other makers give their customers and Hyundai has turned their back on American import buyers , and until someone dies this will not become a recall or a problem for them , so with that said , I am hoping that nhtsa can look into these issues as they are scattered throughout many forums and if something happens to me with this car that I am afraid of driving without a choice as I am a contractor for the ny tri state area, I now have this letter as proof of my complaint . ps , this car is readily available to be driven by any of your investigators if you desire to look further into this . I hope this letter can save some poor college kid or family from injury or the dangers of this car
I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET. MY VEHICLE STARTED MAKING A LOUD NOISE, AND IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION THAT INCLUDED A FREEWAY EXIT, I HEARD A CLANK AND THE CAR WOULD NO LONGER MOVE FORWARD. I CHECKED TO MAKE SURE I WAS IN GEAR, BUT THE ENGINE RACED, AND THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. I WAS PARTIALLY IN THE LANE OF TRAFFIC. THIS WAS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS, AS I WAS IN THE PATH OF CARS COMING OFF THE FREEWAY RAMP. (HAVING IT DISENGAGE WHILE DRIVING WOULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE ANYWHERE.) THOSE CARS HAD LIMITED SIGHT DISTANCE, AND HAD TO SWERVE TO MISS MY VEHICLE. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. I WAS INITIALLY TOLD THAT THE DUAL CLUTCH HAD DISENGAGED AND FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. DURING THE REPAIR PROCESS, THE MECHANIC ALSO FOUND THE TRANSMISSION AND FLYWHEEL TO BE DAMAGED OR FAULTY. THE MECHANIC NOTED THAT HE THOUGHT, BECAUSE OF THE RECENT MODEL YEAR, THAT THE DUAL CLUTCH ASSEMBLY WOULD BE A SPECIAL ORDER PART, BUT WAS TOLD THAT HAD AT LEAST TEN IN STOCK BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL PART WAS POORLY DESIGNED AND MANUFACTURED. THE REPLACEMENT PART HAD BEEN REDESIGNED.
2017 Tucson Limited 1.6L power train malfunction due to vehicle’s dual clutch transmission. While accelerating, the vehicle frequently pauses, best described as a frozen hesitation of failed movement. During this hesitation, the vehicle’s RPMs will be very high. After approximately 3-6 seconds, the vehicle begins to move rapidly in a jerking motion, often with enough torque to push the driver’s back to the seat. This malfunction is extremely unsafe and scary, especially when it occurs while driving through intersections and when merging with traffic. The manufacturer has said this issue is only related to a computer update. There are no warning lights or alarms when this malfunction occurs. Recently, the check engine light turned on and now has a transmission error code: unable to engage first gear. This malfunction has occurred since I bought the new vehicle. For additional context, I change the oil every 4,000 - 5,000 miles, along with all filters and other fluids when recommended, and use quality gas. Routine maintenance has been performed by an independent repair facility. Services performed are protected by federal law from manufacturer implying or denying warranty service because of this (Magnussen-Moss Act, Title 15, Chapter 50, Section 2301-3312).
EcoShift Dual Clutch Transmission does not always engage after full stop and may not engage at low speeds (4-6 mph). The vehicle to not always move when the accelerator pedal is pressed and may sputter until it finally engages but safety is jeopardized at intersections/stoplights where engine was asked to supply power and cuts out creating an otherwise unsafe scenario with oncoming traffic. This has happened on several occasions over the past year and has been documented in online forums. It was a known recall item on the previous year vehicle and was flagged by the NHSTA. Problem was not confirmed yet, awaiting appointment, but when we purchased the vehicle we were told it was normal for dual-clutch to behave this way. Issues are ongoing and re-occur randomly without warning .
When accelerating from a stopped position, the car will sometimes not move forward or will sometimes surge forward at high speed or will at other times move forward but will do so in a jerky uncontrolled manner. Been trying to get the dealer to fix this but I'm told this condition is normal. There's no way this is normal! When pulling onto a busy highway I never know if the car will respond to acceleration of not move for several seconds. This car is dangerous and I feel that it's only a matter of time that I will be in an accident because of this condition.
THE VEHICLE WOULD START TO MOVE AND THEN FREQUENTLY STALL (ABRUPTLY LOSE POWER) WHEN ACCELERATING TO GO FROM A STOP. IT WAS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN, AS IT WOULD STALL IN THE PATH OF ONCOMING VEHICLES. IT WAS ALSO A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM WHEN THE CAR BEHIND MINE WOULD ACCELERATE TO GO, AFTER IT APPEARED I WAS MOVING, AND WOULD THEN NEED TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTION TO NOT REAR-END MY CAR AS IT STALLED MOMENTARILY. AFTER STALLING, THE VEHICLE WOULD EITHER LUNGE FORWARD SUDDENLY, OR I WOULD HAVE TO RELEASE AND QUICKLY REAPPLY THE ACCELERATOR. I ALSO EXPERIENCED THREE OCCASIONS WHEN THE CAR WOULD MOVE FORWARD WHILE IT WAS IN REVERSE GEAR. BOTH OF THOSE ISSUES ALSO CREATED SOME VERY SCARY CLOSE CALLS.
THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH A DUAL CLUTCH TRANSMISSION, UNBEKNOWNST TO ME WHEN I PURCHASED IT USED NOV 2019. HAD I KNOWN, AND RESEARCHED ALL THE ISSUES, I WOULD NEVER HAVE BOUGHT IT. THIS VEHICLE IS DANGEROUS DUE TO THE WAY THE TRANSMISSION STALLS WHEN FIRST STARTING AND AS YOU PUSH THE GAS A LITTLE MORE TO GET IT TO GO, IT JETS FORWARD TOO FAST. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT HYUNDAI AND NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT. IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE ON SNOWY ROADS, WHICH I DID THIS PAST WINTER AND FELT VERY UNSAFE DUE TO THE STALL AND THEN JET FORWARD ISSUE. I WOULD NEVER ALLOW A NEW/YOUNG DRIVER TO USE THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. THERE HAVE BEEN A COUPLE TIMES I WAS ALMOST HIT BECAUSE OF THE STALL WHEN PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND ALSO A FEW TIMES WHEN I FELT I COULD LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE JETTING FORWARD. MY PREVIOUS VEHICLE WAS ALSO A HYUNDAI TUCSON, MINUS THE DUAL CLUTCH, AND IT WAS THE BEST VEHICLE I'D EVER OWNED. PASSED IT DOWN TO MY BROTHER WITH 265,000 MILES ON IT AND STILL GOING STRONG. I HAD NO IDEA HYUNDAI HAD CREATED THIS DUAL CLUTCH AND NOW I AM STUCK PAYING FOR A VEHICLE THAT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING EVER SINCE I PURCHASED IT USED NOV 2019 AND I HAVE CONTACTED HYUNDAI TWICE ABOUT IT. THE FIRST TIME THEY HAD ME TAKE IT IN TO RESET THE DRIVER TRAINING MODE. THE SECOND TIME THEY SAID THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. I NOW KNOW WHY THE PREVIOUS OWNER TRADED IT IN WITH ONLY 14,000 MILES. :(
CAR HESITATES AND ALMOST STALLS AT LOW SPEED EX: PARKING LOT CAR WILL BUCK AND ACT LIKE IT WANTS TO CUT OFF. WHEN AT A STOP, LIKE A STOP SIGN, WHEN PUTTING FOOT ON THE GAS, CAR WILL GO FORWARD, AND THEN NOT CONTINUE GOING, IT WILL REV AND THEN KICK INTO GEAR, LUNGING FORWARD. VERY DANGEROUS IN MY OPINION. THIS ISSUE IS NOT INTERMITTENT, HAS ALWAYS BEEN AN ISSUE
MY VEHICLE HAS A CONSISTENT DELAY IN ACCELERATION AND THE VEHICLE STUTTERS WHENEVER I PRESS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL FROM A STOP OR WHEN INCREASING SPEED WHILE MOVING SLOWLY. PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR ALSO RESULTS IN THE RPMS INCREASING AND DELAYED ACCELERATION OF THE VEHICLE. THE DELAYED ACCELERATION HAS RESULTED IN ME BEING DANGEROUSLY STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION WITH CARS HAVING TO GO AROUND ME. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THIS IS A TURBO LAG HOWEVER MY ISSUE IS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL BROCHURE FOR DUAL CLUTCH TRANSMISSIONS THAT I WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE IS NOT A PART OF. ALL INSTANCES HAVE OCCURRED ON CITY STREETS AND HAVE BEEN OCCURING SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR NEW IN APRIL 2017.
WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP, ENGINE/TRANSMISSION HAS SEVERE HESITATION, NO MOVEMENT FOR ABOUT 5 SECONDS THAN HAS VERY LITTLE POWER AND RPMS REV INTO THE RED ZONE UNTIL IT FINALLY 'KICKS IN' JERKING THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS BEEN A DANGEROUS SITUATION ON MANY OCCASIONS TRYING TO MAKE LEFT TURNS OR GET ONTO THE HIGHWAY. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES SINCE BUYING THE VEHICLE BRAND NEW IN 2017 AND THEY TELL ME THE PROBLEM CANNOT BE REPLICATED VIA COMPUTER AND THAT IT IS NORMAL FOR THE DCT... NOTHING ABOUT THIS IS NORMAL. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS.
SEEMS LIKE WHEN THE TEMPERATURE REACHES ABOUT 90 DEGREES TRANSMISSION HAS A PROBLEM LEAVING A STOP AT A NORMAL SPEED NO MATTER H0W MUCH GAS PEDAL IS APPLIED IT TAKES 5 TO 10 SECONDS FOR THE CAR TO MOVE FOWARD AT A REGULAR SPEED ALMOST LIKE THE OLD DAYS WHEN YOU TRY TO TAKE OFF IN SECOND OR THIRD GEAR IN A STICK SHIFT. PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE YOU EXPECT TO BE IN A SAFE PLACE BY THE TIME TRAFFIC ARRIVES OR WHEN LEAVING A STOP SIGN OTHER DRIVERS EXPECT YOU TO PULL AWAY AT A RESONABLE SPEED, POSSIBLY MAKINGS FOR A REAR END ACCIDENT. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHICH HYUNDAI SEEMS TO BE IGNORING. I WOULD BE VERY SURPRICED IF THERE HAS'NT BEEN AN ACCIDENT FROM THIS PROBLEM SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE SOON. THIS HAS HAPPENED EACH SUMMER WHEN THE TEMPERATURE REACHES APPROX. 90 DEGREES. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO DEALERS SERVICE DEPARTMENT 2 TIMES SO FAR WITH THIS PROBLEM THEY STATE THE CANNOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM SO NOTHING CAN BE DONE. THERE SEEMS TO BE QUITE A FEW HYUNDAI OWNER WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH THE SAME RESULTS AS MINE THE LAST SERVICE REPORT SHOWS IN AND OUT MILAGE OF 12 MILES, YET STATES THE UNIT WAS TEST DRIVEN AT LEAST 4 TIMES IN THE WEEK THEY HAD MY VEHICLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, UNFORUINATLY THE TEMPERATURE DO NOT REACH 90 DEGREES IN THAT WEEK AND THEY MUST HAVE NOT DRIVEN VERY FAR WITH THE TEST DRIVE, LESS THAN 3 MILES EACH TEST DRIVE, NOT MUCH FOR TEST DRIVES .
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 HYUNDAI TUCSON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE AT A COMPLETE STOP, THE VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY HESITATED FOR 3 TO 4 SECONDS AFTER DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR TO THE FLOORBOARD, WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DUTCH MILLER HYUNDAI (1202 WASHINGTON AVE, HUNTINGTON, WV 25704) ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS AND EACH TIME THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE HESITATION WAS NORMAL VEHICLE OPERATION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 10,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TOOK MY 2017 TUCSON TO THE DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES FOR THIS HESITATION/ SPUTTERS ISSUE AND EVERY SINGLE TIME I WAS TOLD NOTHING WAS WRONG. THEY KEEP WANTING TO CLEAN THE FUEL INJECTORS SO THEY WANT TO MAKE MORE MONEY. OBVIOUSLY THIS DID NOTHING AND THE HESITATION KEEP RECURRING. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE SINCE IT'S HAPPENING TO ME AND OTHERS. NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AND DO NOT TRUST THIS CAR NOR THE DEALERSHIP. THIS PROBLEM STARTED RIGHT AFTER I FIRST BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2017, TOOK IT IN AND TOLD ME NOTHING WAS WRONG. I AM THE ONLY OWNER AND WE ARE STILL DEALING WITH IT. *TR
