The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the 4WD Service light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed and the contact was informed that the PTU, timing cover, and the head gasket were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V343000 (POWER TRAIN) as the possible cause for the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 69,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The driver was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle was able to restart; however, the message "Please Shift to Park," was displayed even though the gear selector was already in park(P). After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the catalytic converter. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 181,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving 30-35 MPH uphill, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to respond. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to pull into a driveway. The contact stated that while shifting into reverse(R), the rearview camera engaged; however, the vehicle failed to respond, and the electric parking brake engaged independently. The contact stated that he disengaged the electric parking brake and shifted into drive(D); however, the failure recurred, and the parking brake engaged independently. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the Power Transfer Unit Input Splines were fractured and needed to be replaced. The mechanic related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V529000 (Power Train). The vehicle was not repaired. An unknown dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
I keep getting a "service shifter" alarm intermittently. When this happens it kills my speedometer, and disables the different drive modes available to me. Repairs have been unable to locate the fault, nor has the dealer any good reasoning why. Alarm will go away if I pull over, shut off the car, and open the door. Upon restarting the car it usually goes away for a day or more, but it always comes back. It seems to be worse when it gets colder, and the car has been running longer.
I have had my vehicle checked out several times over the malfunction of the stop and start system. Several times it has been worked on and looked at. Once they claimed they replaced a part under the hood in Richmond, kentucky. This issue has been going on for over two years. It had been cutting off and not starting back. Now its advanced into a jerking from a hesitation to switch between gears. The malfunction light keeps coming back on. And sometimes it has to be restarted several times just to reset it. It was on 7/30/2021 when someone besides me noticed this issue. But its been doing me this way for last three months.

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON, WARNINGS AUTO/START/STOP SYSTEM FAILURE. 4WD TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE. CAR STALLS WHILE IN MOTION. LOSES ACCELERATION CITY AND RURAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. ENGINE KNOCK FROM PREMATURE CAM SHAFT WEAR.
VEHICLE JUMPS BACK WHEN EXITING OFF INTERSTATE AT HIGH SPEED TO LOWER SPEED. ONCE YIELDED OR STOPPED AND HIT GAS PEDAL TO MOVE, VEHICLE JUMPS, POPS, DOESN'T ENGAGE TO MOVE FORWARD ON ACCELERATION. WHEN STOPPING AT A SIGN, HAVE TO BE COMPLETELY STOPPED SO VEHICLE KICKS BACK THEN WHEN ACCELERATING, THERE IS A HESITATION. VEHICLE KINDA LEAPS FORWARD AT FASTER SPEED THEN WHAT PRESSURE IS ON THE GAS PEDAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES.
OIL COOLING HOUSING CRACKED IT COST ME $624 TO REPLACE. THE HOUSING IS MADE OF PLASTIC, THERE'S NO WAY THAT'S GOING LAST WITH THE HEAT OF THE ENGINE
CAR LOSES POWER IN THE FIRST 3-7 MINUTES OF DRIVING. I AM STARTING MY CAR, PULLING OFF, AND THE CAR LOSES POWER, SAYS SOMETHING PUTTING THE CAR IN PARKING GEAR. IT HAS STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. THIS IS DANGEROUS. IT HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES. IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN I FIRST START THE CAR IN THE MORNING. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN TEH REST OF THE DAY.
THIS IS FOLLOW UP TO PREVIOUS COMPLAINT 11281573: DEALER RECEIVED JEEP VIA TOW AND FOUND STUCK IN NEUTRAL AS I DESCRIBED. LET SIT OVERNIGHT AND DEALER INDICATES JEEP WILL ONLY GO IN REVERSE, LATER IN DAY SECOND TRY JEEP DRIVES FINE AND NO CODES TO REPORT A PROBLEM TO FIX. CANNOT IDENTIFY FAILURE SINCE NO "CODES" WERE AVAILABLE IN SYSTEM. DEALER DROVE VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES WITHOUT PROBLEM OF GOING INTO NEUTRAL OCCURRING. I PICKED UP VEHICLE AND DROVE HOME. NEXT MORNING WHILE MAKING A SIGNALED LEFT TURN NO CITY STREET, JEEP GOES INTO NEUTRAL, COAST TO ADJACENT PARKING LOT CROSSING OVER ONE LANE AND STOP. VEHICLE ENGAGES INTO DRIVE SO I PROCEED. RETURNING HOME A FEW MINUETS LATER AND AT ABOUT 50 MPH JEEP AGAIN GOES INTO NEUTRAL, I REMOVE FOOT OFF ACCELERATOR BUT ENGINE ACCELERATES TO ABOUT 5500 TO 5800 RPM AS I COAST TO SIDE OF ROAD (QUITE SHAKEN AT THIS POINT DUE TO ACCELERATED ENGINE). CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON DURING THIS EPISODE. WAIT A FEW MINUETS TO CALM DOWN AND RESTART JEEP. TRANSMISSION ENGAGES AND RETURN TO DEALER. DEALER FINDS CODE IS DUE TO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WHEEL SPEED AND ENGINE SPEED- NOT TRANSMISSION RELATED. SEVERAL SERVICE TECHS DRIVE JEEP THROUGHOUT THE DAY WITHOUT PROBLEM. LATER IN DAY DRIVER EXPERIENCES NEUTRAL CONDITION 3 TIMES WHILE TEST DRIVING- STILL NO CODES TO ID PROBLEM. ADVISER CONTACTS MOPAR EXTENDED WARRANTY (MAX CARE UNLIMITED MILEAGE) BUT CANNOT GET AUTH TO REPAIR WITHOUT "CODES". DEALER HAS OPENED A "STAR CASE" WITH FACTORY.
THE CAR STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DRIVING ON 11/4. JEEP'S DOAGNOSTICS STATES THERE ARE ENGINE ISSUES SPECIFICALLY WITH THE CAMS PART WHICH CAUSES FOR THE CAR TO STALL UNEXPECTEDLEY AND CAUSE MAJOR RISK LEADING TO ACCIDENT AND DEATH. THE ENGINE WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW AND PROPERLY MAINTAINED. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR A 4-YEAR OLD CAR/ENGINE TO FAIL WITH THAT SHORT LIFE SPAN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 JEEP CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE SERVICE SHIFTER WARNING INDICATOR SUDDENLY ILLUMINATED MOMENTARILY. THE CONTACT CONTINUED DRIVING AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE STEERING WHEEL ALSO SEIZED WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURES LASTED BRIEFLY AND THE CONTACT CONTINUED DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.

BETTENHAUSEN CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (8355 W 159TH ST, TINLEY PARK, IL 60477, (708) 532-2665) STATED THAT A LOANER VEHICLE WAS NOT AN OPTION. SOUTH OAK JEEP DODGE CHRYSLER RAM (4550 LINCOLN HWY, MATTESON, IL 60443, (708) 747-7950) INDICATED THAT THE REPAIR WAS COVERED BY A POWER TRAIN WARRANTY TO SERVICE THE ENGINE. THE MANUFACTURER LATER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO USER ERROR. THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THE ENGINE ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND DID NOT STATE IF THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY WOULD COVER THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000.
WHEN I START THE VEHICLE IT REVS HIGH AND WHEN I TAKE OFF IT JUMPS/HESITATES. AS I AM DRIVING, THE WARNING BELL WILL "DING" A WARNING AND THE ENGINE JUST CUTS OFF. MESSAGE ON DASH TELLS ME I AM UNABLE TO SHIFT AND MUST PUT CAR IN PARK TO SHIFT. I AM UNABLE TO ACCELERATE OR TURN MY STEERING WHEEL AND AT A COMPLETE STOP. ALSO AS I MAKE A TURN AT A STOP LIGHT, THE WARNING "DING" WILL HAPPEN AND NO MESSAGE IS DISPLAYED ON DASH. THESE PROBLEMS HAVE OCCURRED WHILE THE CAR IS "IN MOTION"! NOT STOPPED!
AUTOMATIC START/STOP SYSTEM DOESN'T ALWAYS ENGAGE. THE TRANSMISSION STAYS IN 3RD GEAR AFTER COMING TO A STOP AT A STOP SIGN OR TRAFFIC LIGHT AND THE CAR HAS HIGH REVOLUTIONS AND JERKS UNIT IT DOWN SHIFTS TO 1ST GEAR WHEN THE GAS PEDAL IS PRESSED. CAUSING HESITATION IN ENGINE AND PUTTING ME AND MY FAMILY IN CLOSE CALLS FOR ACCIDENTS.

IN ADDITION, THE TRANSMISSION WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE OVERHEATING INDICATOR NOTIFIED THE DRIVER TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BOB MOORE CHRYSLER RAM DODGE JEEP (4627 S MEMORIAL DR, TULSA, OK 74145, 918-663-6343), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000.

THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO GULF COAST CHRYSLER JEEP (3781 S MCKENZIE ST, FOLEY, AL 36535, (251) 943-5075) WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.

THE MANUFACTURER AGREED WITH THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN 12/31/2017 AS USED FROM WALLY ARMOUR IN SALEM OHIO, IT ONLY HAD 11000 MILES ON IT AND SMELLED BRAND NEW STILL. THE FIRST INCIDENT I HAD NOTICED WHEN I WAS DRIVING THE RPMS/ENGINE WOULD REV REALLY HIGH AND LOUD BUT THE CAR WAS ONLY GOING 55 AND IT SEEMED TO BE IN THE WRONG GEAR BUT I WAS IN THE AUTOMATIC DRIVE POSITION WHICH SHOULD NOT CAUSE THIS, I COULD UNDERSTAND IF I WAS IN STANDARD STICK SHIFT AND IF I WOULD DOWN SHIFT IT WOULD CAUSE IT TO DO THAT. THEN I STARTED NOTICING A HESITATION IN THE TAKE OFF OF THE VEHICLE SO WHEN I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT AND TURNING LEFT IT WAITING FOR ONCOMING TRAFFIC IT WILL HESITATE AND GOD FOR BID THERE IS A CAR COMING AND IT IS HESITATING AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT WILL LURCH FORWARD AND I GET THROWN FORWARD THEN BACKWARD IN MY SEAT AS IF I WAS HIT FROM BEHIND BY ANOTHER VEHICLE BUT THERE WAS NO ONE BEHIND MY VEHICLE AND IT WILL JAR MY NECK CAUSING PAIN, I HAD NECK SURGERY IN 2016 WITH A CAGE PUT IN AND A FUSION OF 2 CADAVER BONES, I AM IN NO CONDITION FOR MY VEHICLE TO BE LURCHING FORWARD AS IF IT IS GETTING HIT FROM BEHIND. THIS IS NOT A ONE TIME INCIDENT EITHER IT IS ON GOING DAILY. I AM HOPING FOR A RESOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM I HAVE TAKEN IT IN ONCE AND PLAN ON TAKING IT IN AGAIN TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT POSSIBLY DOING SOMETHING TO IT TO FIX IT.
DRIVING ALONG WITH VEHICLE IN MOTION, THE ENGINE STALLS OUT AND CONTINUES TO ROLL, BUT DOES NOT OPERATE. CAR MUST COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, REST AND THEN TRY TO RESTART - VERY DANGEROUS ON THE HIGHWAY. A MESSAGE COMES ON STATING "VEHICLE MUST BE IN GEAR TO SHIFT" OR SOMETHING CLOSE TO THAT - BUT THERE HAS BEEN NO SHIFTING ON MY PART AT ALL. THIS STALLING HAS PUT ME IN VERY DANGEROUS CONDITIONS BECAUSE CARS COMING FROM BEHIND AND AROUND ME HAVE NO WARNING OF THE STALLED OUT ENGINE EITHER. IT TAKES ABOUT 3 OR 4 MINUTES TO RESTART THE ENGINE. DEALERSHIP SAYS THIS IS AN OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE AND ITS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE PISTONS. ANOTHER JEEP SERVICE MANAGER SAID THE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. ITS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I FEAR THAT WE'RE GOING TO GET HIT (MY DAUGHTER AND I) AND MEANWHILE, WE DO NOT HAVE OTHER TRANSPORTATION AND I'M GOING TO BE PAYING ON THIS FOR 4 MORE YEARS. THERE IS A LOT OF INFORMATION ON OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET. FOR NOW, THE DEALERSHIP IS DOING AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WHICH IS RELATED TO THE ENGINE PROBLEMS KNOWN ON OTHER VEHICLES. WITH THIS MANY PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, THIS SHOULD BE A RECALLED ENGINE.
CAR DOES NOT ACCELERATE FROM 3RD INTO 4TH GEAR AT TIMES. IT HAS A LAG TIME BEFORE IT SWITCHES GEARS INTO 4TH ON A 9-SPEED AUTOMATIC.
VEHICLE KEEPS STALLING WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE STREET IN MOTION
I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH WHAT I ASSUME IS THE TRANSMISSION. WHEN STOPPED ON AN INCLINE, WHEN I GO TO ACCELERATE THE WHOLE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE BUCKS AND MAKES LOTS OF NOISE. IT SOUNDS LIKE GEARS ARE GRINDING AND IT IS FIGHTING TO GET TRACTION. ALSO, WHEN BACK UP MY DRIVEWAY IT FEELS LIKE THE REAR WHEELS ARE SLIPPING AND FIGHT TO GET TRACTION AS WELL. IT STARTED TO HAPPEN WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY ON A FLAT SURFACE AT LIKE 30 MPH AS WELL. I HAVE ALREADY TAKEN IT TO A DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY PERFORMED A SOFTWARE UPDATE ON THE TRANSMISSION. IT HAS NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM, BUT HAS MADE IT LESS FREQUENT. I HAVE ALREADY TAKEN IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN. THE VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. I HAVE TAKEN VIDEOS OF THE PROBLEM OCCURING.
WHEN I WAS LOOKING AT VEHICLES, THE PRIMARY ITEMS I WANTED IN THE NEW VEHICLE WAS A SIX CYLINDER ENGINE SO THAT WE WOULD HAVE THE PICK-UP NEEDED FOR EXTENSIVE HIGHWAY DRIVING. THE ISSUES EXISTED SINCE IT WAS NEW BUT I HAVE ACTUALLY BECOME CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY IN THIS VEHICLE; WE ONLY DRIVE IT WHEN WE ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO (IE. BOTH OF US IN THE HOUSEHOLD HAVE TO GO TO WORK). THE ENGINE IS THE 6 CYLINDER WITH THE 9 SPEED TRANSMISSION. THIS ENGINE HAS INTERMITTENT ISSUES WHERE THE VEHICLE HESITATES, LURCHES, AND JUMPS. SOMETIMES WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A FULL STOP, IT HESITATES SEVERAL SECONDS, AND THEN WHEN IT DOES RESPOND THE TIRES SQUEAL AND THE VEHICLE LURCHES FORWARD FROM THE TRANSMISSION NOT ENGAGING AS IT SHOULD. SOMETIMES IT IS A MILDER RESPONSE WHERE IT IS JUST A HESITATION DUE TO DELAYED SHIFTING. MORE RECENTLY, NOW THE ENGINE IS NOT DOWNSHIFTING AND THE ENGINE REVS AND DOESN'T WANT TO DOWNSHIFT. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS BECAUSE IT IS SO ERRATIC AND I CONSTANTLY WONDER WHAT IT IS GOING TO DO NEXT. EVERY TIME WE TAKE IT TO THE JEEP DEALER, THEY UPDATE THE COMPUTER AND SEND US ON OUR WAY. THE SOFTWARE UPDATES DO NOT HELP. WE HAVE ASKED THEM TO DRIVE IT AND THEY HAVE TOLD ME THEY DON'T EXPERIENCE ANYTHING WRONG. IT WASN'T UNTIL WE WENT TO WRITE THIS LETTER THAT WE REALIZED THAT THE SERVICE ORDERS DON'T RECORD THE FACT THAT WE HAVE ASKED THE JEEP DEALER TO LOOK AT THIS ISSUE EVERY TIME IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP WITH THEM. WHICH INDICATES TO US THAT JEEP IS TRYING TO HIDE FROM THIS ISSUE. THE AMAZING THING IS THAT IF YOU GO ONLINE AND START RESEARCHING ISSUES WITH THE JEEP ENGINE THAT HAS THE 9 SPEED TRANSMISSION, THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS AS WE ARE HAVING. THE SAD THING IS JEEP CONTINUES TO MAKE THE ENGINE WITH THE 9 SPEED TRANSMISSION AND THE ISSUES DON'T SEEM TO BE FIXED. TO ME THAT IS BLATANT DISREGARD FOR THE CONSUMER.
