IN MARCH 2013, I TOOK MY CAR TO MY DEALER FOR A SCHEDULED OIL CHANGE AND ALSO BECAUSE I HAD NOTICED A TICKING NOISE UNDER THE HOOD. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT BECAUSE IT WAS A RAINY DAY, HE COULD NOT HEAR THE TICKING NOISE DURING HIS TEST DRIVE. I WAS STILL CONCERNED, AND ASKED HIM IF HE WAS SURE IT WAS OK FOR ME TO CONTINUE DRIVING IT BECAUSE I HEARD THE NOISE EVERY TIME I TOOK OFF FROM A STOP. HE SAID IT WAS FINE TO DRIVE AND TO BRING IT BACK IN IF THE NOISE CONTINUES. IN MAY 2013, AT 64,756 MILES, I BROUGHT THE CAR IN AGAIN BECAUSE THE TICKING NOISE WAS CONTINUING AND SEEMINGLY GETTING LOUDER. A DIFFERENT TECHNICIAN CHECKED IT, AND AFTERWARDS I RECEIVED THE DEVASTATING NEWS THAT MY CAR EXPERIENCED "INTERNAL ENGINE FAILURE" AND NEEDED THE ENGINE REPLACED. I WAS GIVEN SOME PRICE ESTIMATES FOR USED ENGINES, NONE OF WHICH WERE WARRANTIED FOR MORE THAN A YEAR. WHEN I INFORMED THEM OF MY INABILITY TO AFFORD AN ENGINE REPLACEMENT, TOYOTA SUGGESTED THAT MY CAR UNDERGO AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST BY MY DEALER, WHICH I DID. AFTER 1,000 MILES, THE DEALER DETERMINED THE CAR WAS NOT BURNING OIL EXCESSIVELY. TOYOTA THEN OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE; THE DEALER THEN OFFERED ME A DISCOUNT ON THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT. IN ALL THE YEARS I OWNED THE CAR, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD NEVER ONCE COME ON. (THE ONLY OTHER ISSUE I HAD WITH THE VEHICLE WAS A WATER PUMP FAILURE ON 5/22/2012, WHICH WAS REPLACED AT 56,891 MILES.) I HAVE ALL DOCUMENTATION SHOWING THAT TIMELY OIL CHANGES WERE PERFORMED FOR THE ENTIRE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, I HAD NO OIL IN THE CAR. HOWEVER, I WAS WELL WITHIN THE RANGE BEFORE AN OIL CHANGE WAS DUE.THEY CONDUCTED AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST AND FOUND NOTHING WAS WRONG. BUT EVERY TWO MONTHS SINCE THEN, I'VE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAD ANOTHER OIL CONSUMPTION TEST IN JANUARY 2013. THE RESULTS OF EACH OIL CONSUMPTION TEST IS SAID TO BE OK, BUT EVERY TWO MONTHS AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST IS REQUIRED AND MY CAR KEEPS BURNING TOO MUCH OIL. FINALLY, THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE OVERHAULED. IF THIS HAS BEEN THE PROBLEM ALL ALONG, THEN THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE WHEN I FIRST MADE MY COMPLAINT IN DECEMBER, BEFORE MY WARRANTY RAN OUT. I WAS TOLD THAT TOYOTA WILL NOT PAY FOR MY ENGINE TO BE OVERHAULED BECAUSE MY WARRANTY IS NOW EXPIRED. I'M FORCED TO EITHER PAY $4,100 TO OVERHAUL THE ENGINE AND HOPE THAT THE PROBLEM WILL BE FIXED, OR BUY A NEW CAR. TOYOTA SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS SINCE THE PROBLEM BEGAN BEFORE MY WARRANTY RAN OUT. TOYOTA HAS EXCLUSIVELY CHANGED MY OIL FOR 6 YEARS AND WAS AWARE THAT THE CAR WAS CONSUMING TOO MUCH OIL. THEY SHOULD HAVE SUGGESTED THE ENGINE OVERHAUL DURING MY WARRANTY. IT WAS FAULTY ON THEIR BEHALF NOT TO MENTION THE SEVERITY OF THIS ISSUE UNTIL AFTER THE WARRANTY IS EXPIRED. THIS PROMPTED ME TO CONDUCTED RESEARCH AND I FOUND THAT HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE. A RECALL ON THIS ENGINE SHOULD BE MADE. TOYOTA OFFERS NO ASSISTANCE IN ANYTYPE OF SOLUTION. WHEN TURNING ON A/C A MILDEWY LIKE SMELL WOULD OCCUR BUT DISAPPEAR. THEN ONLY ONE HALF OF CAR WOULD COOL. VENTS ON THE DRIVERS SIDE PRODUCED HOT AIR; VENTS ON PASSENGER SIDE PRODUCED COOL AIR. THIS PROGRESSED TO A STRANGE CHEMICAL GASSY TYPE SMELL, NOT A FUEL GAS SMELL, INCOMPARABLE TO ANYTHING I HAVE SMELLED BEFORE. WHILE TRYING TO ALLOW THE PASSENGER TO REMAIN COOL, THIS GAS ENTERED THE CAR CABIN AND BEGINS TO MAKE YOU SLEEPY. AFTER EXPERIENCING THIS SEVERAL TIMES, I NO LONGER USE THE AIR CONDITIONER AS I HAD BECOME TOO SLEEPY TO DRIVE ON ONE OCCASION. I TOOK MY CAR TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. I WAS INFORMED THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE EVAPORATOR. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY EVAPORATOR. WHEN I ASKED ABOUT THE TJE CHEMICAL GASSY SMELL, I WAS TOLD IT WAS NOTHING. *TR
EXTREME OIL CONSUMPTION-HAVE TO ADD 1 QUART PER WEEK. *TR
I WENT TO WORLD TOYOTA ON 3/1/13 TO GET NORMAL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. I MENTIONED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE I WAS ON THE WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP. A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED AND REPORTED THAT I NEEDED A R/R CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR REPLACED.THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS RESET. I WAS TOLD I DIDN'T HAVE TO REPLACE THE PART AT THAT TIME, BUT WOULD HAVE TO GET IT REPLACED WHEN THE LIGHT COMES ON AGAIN.THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND MAINTENANCE REQ LIGHTS CAME ON 6/11.I HAD A DIAGNOSTIC RUN. I WAS TOLD THE CAMSHAFT GEAR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.I CONTACTED WORLD TOYOTA TO HAVE THE PART ORDERED AND MADE AN APPT TO COME IN ON 6/21. ON 6/17, I HEARD 2 LOUD POPPING NOISES. I CHECKED THE OIL B/C THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM THE OIL PAN. I CHECKED THE DIP STICK TWICE AND NOTICED IT WAS DRY. I PLACED 3 QUARTS OF MOTOR OIL IN THE CAR.I STARTED THE ENGINE. IT STARTED MAKING A KNOCKING SOUND. I PARKED AND CONTACTED WORLD TOYOTA TO EXPLAIN THE SITUATION. I TOWED THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 6/19.THE SVC ADVISOR TOLD ME THE SHORT BLOCK ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED; THIS WAS DUE TO NO FAULT OF MY OWN.THERE WERE NO NORMAL WARNING SIGNS: CHECK OIL LIGHT OR BLACK SMOKE. I GOT ALL THE RECOMMENDED SVCS AT THE CORRECT INTERVALS. WHEN I ASKED WHERE THE OIL WENT, I WAS TOLD IT EVAPORATED.THE INSPECTION REPORT STATES I NEED REFURBISHED ENGINE OR A NEW SHORT BLOCK FOR $5,500 AND $6,400. I WAS TOLD THOSE WERE THE BEST PRICES THAT WORLD TOYOTA COULD OFFER BECAUSE THE CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. I CALLED THE TOYOTA CX EXP CTR TO VOICE MY COMPLAINT AND EXPLAINED THERE ARE NO RECALLS FOR THIS ISSUE, BUT THERE ARE COMPLAINTS FOR THIS SAME ISSUE, OIL CONSUMPTION. I WAS TOLD THEY COULD REIMBURSE ME $2,000 FOR REPLACING THE ENGINE OR GIVE ME $1,000 OFF THE PURCHASE OF A NEW OR USED TOYOTA VEHICLE ONCE I SUBMIT AN INVOICE STATING I PAID FOR THE SVC AND THAT THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED BY WORLD TOYOTA. *TR
VVTI OIL LINE RUPTURE 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY W/ V6 ENGINE WE PURCHASED THIS NEW AT A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER. MY WIFE IS THE PRIMARY DRIVER W/ MYSELF AS THE ONLY OTHER OCCASIONAL DRIVER. THE VEHICLE HAS RECEIVED REGULAR MAINTENANCE ALTHOUGH NOT AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE PURCHASED. VEHICLE, AT TIME OF INCIDENT (11-15-13), HAD 50,893 MILES. WHEN MY WIFE RETURNED HOME FROM SHOPPING SHE SAW A TRAIL OF OIL UP THE DRIVEWAY AND INTO THE GARAGE. THE OIL TRAIL APPEARED TO BEGIN DOWN THE STREET NEAR OUR HOME. WHEN WE RESTARTED THE ENGINE, OIL GUSHED FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE V-6 ENGINE. I CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL AND IT WAS ABOUT 1 1/2 - 2 QUARTS LOW. OUR TOYOTA USES NO OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. OIL HAD SPRAYED ALL OVER THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE ENGINE, THE UNDERCARRIAGE, AND SOME OF THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. AN INTERNET SEARCH REVEALED A VVTI OIL LINE PROBLEM WITH CERTAIN TOYOTA VEHICLES W/ A V-6 ENGINE. A SHORT RUBBER SECTION OF EXTERNAL ENGINE OIL LINE WOULD LEAK OR RUPTURE. OURS RUPTURED WITH-OUT ANY WARNING LIGHTS OR ALARMS. THE NEXT MORNING WE HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE PURCHASED AND THEY REPAIRED AND VERIFIED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE VVTI OIL LINE. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE REPAIR WAS NOT COVERED BY TOYOTA AND WE HAD TO PAY. I FOUND OUT TOYOTA DID HAVE A LSC 90-K PHASE TWO CAMPAIGN THAT DID COVER THIS BUT IT HAD EXPIRED. WE WERE UNAWARE OF THE PROBLEM. I CALLED AND COMPLAINED TO 2 LEVELS OF TOYOTA THEN WROTE THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT TORRANCE, CA. BUT THEY ALL SAID LETTERS WERE SENT OUT AND THE CAMPAIGN HAD EXPIRED MARCH 31, 2013. THE PRESIDENT'S OFFICE DID OFFER A LIMITED REFUND FOR FUTURE PARTS OR SERVICE AT TOYOTA DEALERS. THIS PROBLEM STILL EXISTS AND TOYOTA SHOULD NOT HAVE AN EXPIRATION DATE FOR REPAIRING THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM CAN CAUSE FIRES AND RUIN ENGINES. FORTUNATELY WE ONLY LOST A SMALL AMOUNT OF OIL AND THAT SHOULDN'T HAVE DAMAGED OUR ENGINE. *TR
THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT . I AM REPORTING AND FILING A COMPLAINT ABOUT A "ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM" "MAJOR ENGINE AND PISTON PROBLEM." IN MY CAR A TOYOTA SOLARA 2007. THIS PROBLEM STARTED 9 MONTHS TO A YEAR AGO AND I HAVE TO KEEP PUTTING IN OIL SO OFTEN (EVERY MONTH) IT SEEMS RIDICULOUS AS MY CAR IS ONLY (6) YEARS OLD AND THE PROBLEM STARTED AT (5) YEARS OLD. I HAVE ENQUIRED AND SEE THAT THERE WERE MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME TYPE (SERVICE BULLETINS-T-SB-0094-11) PREVIOUSLY. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING TO SUCH A NEW CAR OR AT ALL FOR THAT MATTER. I HAVE ALWAYS BELIEVED IN TOYOTA CARS I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THEY HAVE ONE OF THE BEST ENGINES MADE. WHAT'S HAPPENING! MY 2007 CAMRY IS CONSUMING AROUND 3.5 QUARTS BETWEEN 5000MILES OIL CHANGE INTERVALS. THIS CONSUMPTION IS QUITE HIGH BY ANY STANDARD . I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS SOME SORT OF A MANUFACTURING/DESIGN FLAW WHICH COMES UP ONCE THE VEHICLE COMES OUT OF WARRANTY PERIOD. THERE ARE NO LEAKS OR VISIBLE SIGNS OF OIL LOSS, I HATE TO SAY THE ENGINE IS BURNING THE OIL AND POLLUTING THE ENVIRONMENT. TOYOTA SHOULD ACKNOWLEDGE AND FIX THIS PROBLEM FOR ALL CAMRY CUSTOMERS. *TR
I HAD GOTTEN MY OIL CHANGED AND 2 WEEKS LATER IT WAS 2 QUARTS LOW ON OIL. I TOOK IT BACK TO SEE IF THERE WAS A LEAK AND THEY SAID NO NOTHING WAS WRONG, BUT FROM THAT TIME ON I HAVE HAD TO ADD AT LEAST 2 QUARTS OF OIL EVERY TWO WEEKS. I AM AFRAID MY MOTOR WILL BLOW. THE LIGHT DOESN'T COME ON TO SAY IT IS LOW ON OIL, IF I DON'T JUST CHECK I WILL NOT KNOW. I HAVE HEARD SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FROM OTHERS WITH THE 2007 CAMRY. MY SISTER ALSO HAS A 2008 I BELIEVE IT IS SCION AND SHE IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. I TAKE IT FOR THE REGULAR OIL CHANGES AND A WEEK AFTER THE OIL IS LOW AND BURNING . *TR
MY 2007 TOYOTA SOLARA COUPE L4-2.4L (2AZ-FE) HAS THE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM. THIS WAS CONFIRMED BY MY SERVICE CENTER AND IS IN REGARD TO THE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN T-SB-0094-11. THE ENGINE LOSES OIL AT RAPID RATE AND GASOLINE GETS IN THE OIL, WHICH COULD CAUSE A FIRE. THIS IS A SERIOUS ENGINE PROBLEM WHICH SHOULD BE A RECALL. BECAUSE TOYOTA LISTS THIS PROBLEM ONLY AS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN, THEY SAY THEY ARE NOT REQUIRED TO CONTACT THE VEHICLE OWNER TO MAKE THEM AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. THE REPAIRS NEEDED REQUIRE MAJOR ENGINE/PISTON WORK COSTING $5,000. THEY WILL NOT PAY FOR THIS IF THE VEHICLE HAS OVER 60,000 MILES. BECAUSE I CANNOT AFFORD $5,000, AND I NEED THE CAR TO GET TO WORK, I AM STUCK WITH A USELESS AND DANGEROUS VEHICLE WHERE THE ENGINE WILL SEIZE UP AND DIE. WHO KNOWS WHAT TRAGEDY THIS WILL CAUSE IF I AM IN THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE PISTON AND RINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 133,000. THE VIN NUMBER WAS NOT AVAILABLE. *TR
MY ENGINE HAS A DEFECT. IT IS BURNING OIL. I BURNED 2 QUARTS, ALTHOUGH I HAVE SERVICED THE CAR REGULAR WITH SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE INTERVAL.I WENT TO DEALERSHIP, BEV SMITH TOYOTA IN FORT PIERCE, FLORIDA ON FEBUARY 02, 2013. THEY SAID THE VEHICLE ENGINE LACKED 2 QUARTS OF OIL, WHICH THEY ADDED. MY CONTACT ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 02, 2013 WAS JAMES BADILLO WHO IS THE CUSTOMER RELATIONS MANAGER AT THE FACILITY ADVISED ME SINCE THE ENGINE IS BURNING OIL, PISTON RINGS WILL NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS NOT NORMAL. THERE IS A DEFECT IN ONE OR MORE COMPONENT OF THE ENGINE WHICH IS CAUSING OIL LEAK INTERNALLY THAT TOYOTA SHOULD FIND THE CAUSE AND PAY FOR THE REPAIR. PLEASE MAKE THEM ISSUE A RECALL/COVER COST OF NECESSARY REPAIRS. I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE, THERE ARE MANY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY OWNERS WHO HAVE DEFECTIVE ENGINE PER MY RESEARCH ONLINE WITH THE SAME ISSUE OF BURNING OIL. I HAVE DONE ALL THE OIL CHANGES AT RECOMMENDED INTERVALS. I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS AND THEY ARE REFUSING TO COVER REPAIR BILL BECAUSE THEY SAID CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. FOR THE PAST 8 MONTHS, I HAVE BEEN CHECKING THE ENGINE OIL LEVEL TO FIND OUT THAT AT AROUND 1200 MILES THE CAR IS BURNING OIL, 1/2 QUART TO BE EXACT. I THINK IT IS EXTREMELY UNUSUAL FOR A CAR WITH SUCH LOW MILES TO BURN THAT MUCH OIL. SO FAR I REPLACED THE PCV VALVE, THINKING THAT WILL FIX THE PROBLEM BUT IT DID NOT WORK. I SEE NO EVIDENCE OF ANY LEAKS FROM OIL PAN OR HEAD GASKET OR OIL CAP. TODAY I HAD THE DEALER REPLACE MY WATER PUMP DUE TO ANTIFREEZE LEAKING FROM IT. I WILL HAVE THE DEALER LOOK INTO THIS BUT I FEEL I WILL GET THE SAME RESPONSE THAT THE OTHERS 07 CAMRY OWNERS ARE GETTING. AT THIS MOMENT I FEEL THERE IS AN ENGINE PROBLEM. I PURCHASED A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY NEW IN 2007 ( THIS IS MY 5TH TOYOTA) AND RELIGIOUS FOLLOW THE SUGGESTED MAINTENANCE TOYOTA RECOMMENDS. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 50 K MILES THE ENGINE STARTED BURNING OIL AND THE ENGINE BECAME VERY NOISY. THE CAR CURRENTLY USES ABOUT A QUART EVERY 1200 MILES. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE. THE ADDITIONAL EMISSIONS CAUSED BY THE OIL BURNING IS BEING OFFSET PARTIALLY BY THE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM, BUT ONLY PARTIALLY, AND EVENTUALLY WILL FAIL TO FILTER IT OUT ALTOGETHER. THERE IS EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION FOR THIS VEHICLE. I GOT AN OIL AND FILTER CHANGE ON 2/9/13 BECAUSE THE LOW OIL LIGHT WAS FLASHING. I DROVE MY CAR BACK AND FORTH TO WORK AND HOME AS NORMAL WHICH IS ABOUT 15 MILES EACH WAY. MY OIL LIGHT IS BACK ON INDICATING LOW OIL AND THE DIPSTICK ALSO INDICATES LOW OIL. TODAY IS 3/4/13. IT HAS NOT EVEN BEEN 3000 MILES SINCE MY LAST OIL CHANGE. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR BECAUSE I DO NOT KNOW IF THE ENGINE WILL FAIL AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT. THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET INDICATING OTHER OWNERS ARE ALSO HAVING THIS ISSUE. THIS APPEARS TO BE A DEFECT WITH THE CAR. PLEASE ADDRESS THIS ISSUE WITH TOYOTA. IT IS NOT SAFE TO HAVE AN OIL CHANGE AND NOT KNOW AT ANY TIME THAT YOUR ENGINE COULD BE RUNNING ON LOW/NO OIL. *TR
WHILE MY FIANCEE WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON THE FREEWAY ONE EVENING IN THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER 2011, THE LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT SUDDENLY CAME ON. WHEN SHE ARRIVED HOME I CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL AND FOUND THAT IT WAS APPROXIMATELY 3 QUARTS LOW (MAXIMUM CAPACITY IS 4.5 QUARTS). I HAD THE VEHICLE INSPECTED AT A LOCAL FACILITY, LEXOLOGY, THAT SPECIALIZES IN TOYOTA/LEXUS. THE OWNER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC AND TOLD ME IT WAS A KNOWN EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION WITH THE 2AZ-F3 ENGINES. HE SHOWED ME THE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (T-SB-0094-11), AND INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT WOULD EVENTUALLY LEAD TO COLLATERAL DAMAGE OF THE VEHICLE IGNITION AND EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM THAT WOULD ADVERSELY AFFECT THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE AND INCREASE ITS CARBON FOOTPRINT. I SUBSEQUENTLY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE AN INSPECTION TEST WAS PERFORMED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE TSB AND THE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM WAS CONFIRMED. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND OPENED A CASE NUMBER (1202062104). THERE WERE SEVERAL EXCHANGES BY PHONE AND IN WRITING WITH TOYOTA IN ATTEMPT TO GET TOYOTA TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND OWNERSHIP OF THE PROBLEM. THE EXCHANGES WERE UNSUCCESSFUL AND I FILED A SMALL CLAIMS SUIT (SUPERIOR COURT OF CALIFORNIA CASE # 13S00672). THE SMALL CLAIMS SUIT WAS ALSO UNSUCCESSFUL AND I AM NOW TAKING ANY AND ALL ACTION WITHIN MY POWER TO BRING THE MATTER TO THE ATTENTION OF OTHERS. I CAN SEE BY OTHER FILED COMPLAINTS THAT THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM. PERSONAL IMPACT ASIDE, THIS IS A VEHICLE AND ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY ISSUE. I PUT ALMOST AS MUCH OIL IN THE CAR EVERY WEEK AS I DO GASOLINE. THE ADDITIONAL EMISSIONS CAUSED BY THE OIL BURNING IS BEING OFFSET PARTIALLY BY THE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM, BUT ONLY PARTIALLY, AND EVENTUALLY WILL FAIL TO FILTER IT OUT ALTOGETHER. I URGE NHTSA TO TAKE ACTION AND RAISE THIS TO RECALL STATUS AND HOLD TOYOTA ACCOUNTABLE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING THE CAR AS USUAL AND NOTICED RED ENGINE OIL LIGHT CAME ON WHEN I BRAKE FOR A TRAFFIC LIGHT. CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL WHEN I GOT HOME AND REALIZED THERE WAS NO OIL ON THE DIP STICK AT ALL! I ENDED UP PUTTING IN ABOUT 2 QTS OF OIL TO RETURN IT TO AN ACCEPTABLE LEVEL. AFTER RESEARCHING FOR THE PROBLEM, I FOUND OUT THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM AND BASICALLY THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REBUILT IN ORDER TO FIX THE PROBLEM. SEEMS LIKE TOYOTA HASN'T BEEN HONEST ABOUT THEIR PRODUCTS POTENTIAL PROBLEMS LATELY. PLEASE PRESSURE TOYOTA TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. OTHERWISE I WILL NEVER BUY ANY TOYOTA PRODUCT AGAIN. AT THE SAME TIME, I RECALLED MY DEALERSHIP, WHERE I PURCHASED THE MAINTENANCE PACKAGE FROM, HAD PREVIOUSLY SUGGESTED THAT OIL PAN COULD HAVE BEEN LEAKING OIL. I WENT UNDER THE CAR, AND THERE WAS NO SIGN OF LEAKAGE AT ALL! THE DEALERSHIP ALWAYS KNEW ABOUT THE SERVICE BULLETIN AND WAS TRYING TO MISGUIDE ME! *TR
MY TOYOTA CAMRY 2007 BURNS OIL EXCESSIVELY. WHEN I FIRST DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM IT WAS BECAUSE THE OIL LIGHT FLASHED ON, AND THEN BACK OFF. BEING ON THE SAFE SIDE, I CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL TO MAKE SURE THE LIGHT COMING ON BRIEFLY WAS NOT A FLUKE. TO MY SURPRISE, MY ENGINE WAS NEARLY BONE DRY. IF I HADN'T CHECKED THE LEVEL, THE ENGINE COULD EASILY HAVE SEIZED. I BROUGHT IT TO MY TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, MAGIC TOYOTA OF EDMONDS, WA, WHO COMPLETED AN "OIL CONSUMPTION CHECK" AND INFORMED ME THAT THE CAR'S BURNING OF OIL IS WITHIN ACCEPTABLE LIMITS. A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO, I CHECKED MY OIL LEVEL AGAIN. I HAD ONLY PUT ABOUT 2900 MILES ON IT SINCE ITS LAST OIL CHANGE AND, ONCE AGAIN, MY DIPSTICK SHOWED THE OIL LEVEL TO BE BELOW THE BOTTOM DOT WHICH INDICATES THE OIL IS DANGEROUSLY LOW. I AGAIN BROUGHT THE CAR TO MAGIC TOYOTA WHERE THEY PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THAT I DIDN'T PROPERLY READ THE DIPSTICK AND THAT THEIR TECHNICIAN FOUND THAT THE OIL LEVEL WAS ONLY 1/2 OF A QUART BELOW FULL. THEY MADE A MARK WITH A PEN ON A DRAWING OF THE DIPSTICK TO SHOW ME WHERE THE OIL LEVEL HAD BEEN. THIS WAS ENTIRELY UNTRUE AND FRAUDULENT! I BELIEVE TOYOTA IS COVERING UP AN OIL BURNING PROBLEM IN THE 2007 CAMRY. PLEASE HELP! *TR
2007 TOYOTA CAMRY HAS EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. CAR USING APPROXIMATELY 1.75 QUARTS FOR EVERY 500 MILES DRIVEN. TOYOTA ACKNOWLEDGES PROBLEM IN TSB 0094-11 BUT WILL NOT ALLOW ANY WARRANTY REPAIR TO BE PERFORMED MY CAR IS NOW OUT OF THE 6 YR 60,000 MILE WARRANTY THEY REQUIRE IT TO BE TO FIX THE . REPAIR COST IS IN EXCESS OF $3000.00 TO PROPERLY CORRECT THE PROBLEM TOYOTA NEEDS TO EXTENT THE YEARS AND MILLAGE TO TRY TO FIX MORE OF THE AFFECTED CARS THEY ADMITTED THERE IS A ENGINE PISTON DESIGN FLAW CAUSING THIS PROBLEM. *TR
2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO PROBLEMS WITH ENGINE STALLING. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE LAST TIME THE VEHICLE STALLED, IT WOULD NOT RE-START AND THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER, THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER BLAMED THE CONSUMER FOR HAVING THE VEHICLE TUNED-UP AT A SERVICE STATION, WHERE THEY MAY HAVE USED GREEN ANTI-FREEZE FLUID, INSTEAD OF PINK ANTI-FREEZE THAT TOYOTA USED. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED GREEN ANTI-FREEZE WOULD CORRODE THE TANK. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED A RE-BUILT ENGINE WOULD COST $ 7287.66. THE CONSUMER AGREED TO THE PRICE AND FINALLY PICKED THE VEHICLE UP ON FEBRUARY 11, 2013. THE NEXT DAY, WHEN THE CONSUMER STARTED THE VEHICLE, THE ENGINE WAS LEAKING FLUIDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THEY TIGHTENED UP SOME LOOSE AREAS AND THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE CONSUMER.
ENGINE MADE KNOCKING NOISE. INSPECTION BY TOYOTA DEALER REVEALED ENGINE MAIN BEARING PROBLEMS PROBABLY RESULTING FROM LOW OIL PRESSURE OR OIL DEPLETION. POSSIBLE FAULTY PISTON RINGS WITH THIS ENGINE/YEAR 2007. THIS PROBLEM IS REPORTEDLY COMMON WITH THIS 4 CYLINDER ENGINE, BUT I DO NOT HAVE SUFFICIENT DATA TO BETTER ASSESS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE NOTICED THAT THE EXHAUST TAIL PIPE WAS BLACK AND THE OIL WAS CONSUMED PREMATURELY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
ON OR ABOUT SEPTEMBER, 2011, AND WITHIN WARRANTY, MY OIL LIGHT CAME ON. I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO IRA TOYOTA. I HAD TWO QUARTS OF OIL REMAINING IN CRANKCASE. THEY CONDUCTED AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST, ONE OF THREE, AND TOLD ME THAT THE LOSS OF ONE HALF QUART PER 1,000 MILES WAS WITHIN SPECS. RUBBISH. I THEN COMPLAINED TO TOYOTA MOTOR SALES, USA, INC. THEY SENT ME THEIR ENGINEER WHO STATED THAT TOYOTA WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY PERFORMED ANOTHER OIL CONSUMPTION TEST, OF COURSE. NEVER SAW ENGINEER AGAIN. BEFORE ENGINEER, IRA TOYOTA OFFERED TO FIX IT. THEY CLAIMED IT WAS A $1,500 JOB AND IF I GAVE THEM $150.00, THEY WOULD FIX IT. THEY "REPAIRED AUTO" BUT IT REMAINED THE SAME. AND THEY KEPT THE $150. THEY KEPT LYING TO ME FOR A YEAR. THEN, THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT HONOR MY COMPLAINT. NOW, MY AUTO USES ONE QUART OF OIL PER 600 MILES. TOYOTA IS A FRAUD. THEY HAVE SO MANY COMPLAINTS THAT THEY CANNOT FINANCIALLY TAKE CARE OF ALL OF THEM. THEIR VEHICLES ARE LEMONS AND THEIR WARRANTIES ARE WORTHLESS. (SHORT VERSION) *TR
I WAS DRIVING TO WORK IN THE EARLY MORNING, ALL OF A SUDDEN ENGINE STARTED MAKING SOME WIRED NOISE AND WITHIN NEXT 2 MIN VEHICLE STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF FREEWAY (SOMEHOW MANAGED TO PULL IT OUT TO SHOULDER) COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL INJURY, THEN TOWED THE VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, THEY FOUND THAT ENGINE SIZED BECAUSE OF WATERPUMP BREAKDOWN,(IT DIDN'T GIVE ME NO TIME TO TAKE THAT INTO DEALER ) HOW THIS COULD HAPPEN FOR SUCH A LOW MILES AND ABT 5.5 YEARS OLD AND WELL MAINTAINED VEHICLE, WAS COMPLAINED ABT THIS TO TOYOTA BUT DIDN'T GET A SATISFACTORY ANSWERS. *TR
VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW AND HAS PERFORMED WELL TO THIS POINT BUT THE OTHER DAY THE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT FLASHED A COUPLE TIMES. A CHECK SHOWED THE LEVEL COMPLETELY OFF THE STICK AND TOOK 2.5 QUARTS TO FILL. ENGINE OIL HAD JUST BEEN CHANGED 2500 MILES PREVIOUS TO THIS. SINCE FILLING TO THE MARK, IT HAS USED AN ADDITIONAL .5 QUARTS IN THE LAST 500 MILES. CAR IS GARAGED WHEN NOT BEING DRIVEN AND DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE LEAKING (NO SPOTS ON GARAGE FLOOR). SOME SOOT IN TAIL PIPE BUT IS NOT SMOKING. I HAVE OWNED ~9 DIFFERENT CARS AND NEVER HAD ONE USE OIL LIKE THIS. INFORMATION ON TOYOTA'S WEB SITE INDICATES THIS IS NORMAL. VEHICLE SHOULD BE RECALLED WITH DEFECTIVE ENGINE. *TR
