I OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY XLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BURNING MORE OIL THAN USUAL. THE CHECK OIL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED OFTEN. THE CONTACT HAD THE OIL CHANGED AT 69,000 MILES AND THE MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THERE WAS LESS THAN HALF A QUART OF OIL LEFT AT APPROXIMATELY 74,000 MILES. THE CONTACT HAD THE OIL CHANGED AGAIN AND THE SAME ISSUE RECURRED. *TR

DURING THE LAST 2 OR 3 OIL CHANGES THE SHOP I WAS AT NOTED THAT THE CAR WAS LOW ON OIL WHEN IT CAME IT. I'VE ALWAYS MADE SURE THEY FILLED IT TO THE TOP AND WHILE CHECKING IT RECENTLY IN BETWEEN CHANGES (2K BEFORE NEXT OIL CHANGE WAS DUE) THE DIPSTICK WAS ONLY SHOWING OIL AT THE HALFWAY MARKS BETWEEN THE TWO DOTS ON THE STICK. I ALSO NOTICED THAT DURING HARD ACCELERATION ON THE HIGHWAY SMOKE IS COMING OUT OF THE TAILPIPE. THERE ARE NO VISIBLE LEAKS AND THE CAR HAS BEEN PROPERLY MAINTAINED. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT TO JOIN THE GROWING NUMBER OF CAMRY OWNERS THAT ARE HAVING THIS OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM. A CAR WITH LESS THAN 100K MILES SHOULD NOT BE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. AND THE FACT THAT TOYOTA STATES THAT IT IS NORMAL FOR SOME OIL TO BE BURNED IN BETWEEN CHANGES DOES NOT SIT WELL WITH ME. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND TOYOTA NEEDS TO STEP UP AND FIX THIS ISSUE. *TR

THE 2.4LITER ENGINE IN THE 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY THAT I OWN HAS BEGUN TO CONSUME AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF ENGINE OIL. TOYOTA HAS ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN TO COVER VEHICLES THAT ARE STILL COVERED UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY BUT WILL NOT ASSIST ME WITH MY VEHICLE SINCE IT IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY. NOW THE VEHICLE HAS 100,000 MILES ON IT AND THE ENGINE WILL FAIL PREMATURELY. I HAVE CONTACTED THE TOYOTA'S CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER AS WELL AS MY LOCAL DEALER WITH NO SUCCESS. THE LOCAL DEALER KNOWS OF THE PROBLEM BUT SAYS TOYOTA WILL NOT ASSIST OUT OF WARRANTY CUSTOMERS. THERE WAS OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN THE ENGINE AND THE PROBLEM IS WIDESPREAD WITH THESE MODELS. TOYOTA SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR DISTRIBUTING AN INFERIOR PRODUCT TO THE PUBLIC AS WELL AS THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF EXCESSIVE OIL BURNING ON A LATE MODEL VEHICLE. *TR

MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY ENGINE HAS BEEN BURNING OIL FOR THE LAST ONE YEAR. THERE ARE SIGNIFICANT SLUDGE IN THE ENGINE THAT CAN DAMAGE THE ENGINE VERY SOON. IF I DON'T FILL THE ENGINE WITH ADDITIONAL OIL BETWEEN TWO OIL CHANGES, WHEN ITS TIME TO CHANGE OIL, NOTHING COMES OUT FROM THE ENGINE - THE ENTIRE OIL IS BEING BURNT BY THE ENGINE AND THE RED OIL CHANGE SIGN COMES OUT WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS A SERIOUS QUALITY ISSUE WITH TOYOTA. I NEVER HAD TO DEAL WITH SIMILAR ISSUES WITH ANY OTHER VEHICLE. WHEN I TOLD THE TOYOTA DEALER, THEY REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS PROBLEM - THEY ASKED MY TO KEEP ADDING OIL. IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY, THERE WAS A RECALL FOR 2001 - 06 TOYOTAS FOR THE SAME ISSUE. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF TOYOTA OWNERS WHO ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE - PLEASE GOOGLE IT TO CHECK. THEREFORE, I AM REQUESTING AN NHTSA INVESTIGATION OF THIS ENGINE PROBLEM AND START A RECALL OF ALL 2007 CAMRY ENGINES ASAP. WILL APPRECIATE ANY HELP FROM NHTSA. *TR

BOUGHT THIS CAMRY NEW IN 2007 FOR MY WIFE. I'VE MAINTAINED IT AS PER MFG SCHEDULE. AFTER HAVING OIL CHANGE DONE AT AROUND 65000 MILES, I WAS DRIVING VEHICLE & NOTICED OIL PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY. UPON ARRIVING HOME, CHECKED DIP STICK & THERE WAS NO OIL ON STICK!!. THIS WAS AFTER OIL CHANGE 2000 MILES AGO. I TOOK VEHICLE TO A DIFFERENT SERVICE STATION TO GET CAR LOOKED AT & A NEW OIL CHANGE. THE TECH FOUND NO OIL LEAKS.. HE MENTIONED THAT HE HAD HEARD OF CAMRYS HAVING EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEMS. WENT ON INTERNET, FOUND A LOT OF OTHER OWNERS OF CAMRYS, THIS AGE & WITH AROUND THE SAME MILEAGE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVEN'T TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AS I DON'T WANT TO BE TOLD "THAT THIS IS NORMAL:, "THAT EXPENSIVE REPAIRS ARE NECESSARY" BUT DON'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM. MY CAR IS CONSUMING OIL OUT OF NORMAL. THE DEALER PUT ME ON OIL CONSUMPTION TEST LAST YEAR. I WAS TOLD THAT THE OIL CONSUMPTION IS OK. NOW I HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AGAIN. I WAS VERY LOW ON OIL ALMOST I QT LEFT IN THE ENGINE. I CHECKED THE ENGINE OIL BECAUSE THE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT KEEPS POPPING UP WHEN I APPLY BRAKES. I WENT TO THE DEALER AGAIN YESTERDAY AND THEY PUT ME ON OIL CONSUMPTION TEST AGAIN. I WAS READING THE FORUMS AND EVERYONE HAS THE SAME ISSUE. THERE IS NO SOLUTION RECOMMENDED BY TOYOTA. I HAD MY OIL CHANGED ABOUT 5,000 MILES PREVIOUSLY TO A MOMENT WHEN MY OIL LIGHT CAME ON BARELY, AND THEN FLASHED BACK OFF. I DECIDED TO CHECK IT, JUST IN CASE, AND FOUND THAT I WAS TOTALLY WITHOUT OIL. I WENT TO TOYOTA AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS SIMPLY BECAUSE I HAD WAITED LONGER THAN SIX MONTHS TO HAVE AN OIL CHANGE. I GOT THE OIL CHANGE, AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. THEY THEN BEGAN AN "OIL CONSUMPTION CHECK" WHERE I BRING THE CAR IN EVERY 1000 MILES TO SEE IF IT HAS CONSUMED TOO MUCH OIL. AT THIS POINT IN MY OIL CONSUMPTION CHECK, AFTER ABOUT 3000 MILES, I'VE BURNED ABOUT 1.5 QUARTS OIL, ACCORDING TO THEM. THE CAR NOW HAS ABOUT 45K ON IT, AND I SAY IT SHOULDN'T BE BURNING SO MUCH OIL. THE CAR ALSO DOESN'T START AS RESPONSIVELY AS IT OUGHT TO. THE OIL ALSO LOOKS VERY DIRTY. TOYOTA CONTINUES TO TELL ME THIS IS NORMAL, BUT MANY CUSTOMERS ARE HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES I'VE NOTICED IN ONLINE FORUMS, ETC., AND I SUSPECT TOYOTA IS AVOIDING TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR AN ENGINE PROBLEM. *TR

HI, I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY IN FEBRUARY OF 2007. FAST FORWARD 5 YEARS AND 114K MILES AND MY CAR WON'T KEEP OIL IN IT. NO LEAKS, THE CAR BURNS OIL! I CALLED A FRIEND WHO IS ACTUALLY A TOYOTA TECHNICIAN AND HE SAID OIL BURNING IN THE 2007 CAMRYS IS A KNOWN ISSUE. A GOOGLE SEARCH PROOVES IT. THERE ARE TONS OF POSTS FROM ANGRY, ONCE LOYAL TOYOTA OWNERS ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM. TOYOTA IS VERY AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT THEY SAY IT IS "NORMAL" FOR THEIR CARS TO BURN A QUART EVERY 600 MILES SO WHEN YOU TAKE YOUR CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO, YOU SHOULD JUST KEEP PUTTING OIL IN THE CAR. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND ADVISED THAT THERE WERE NO OIL LEAKS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
