The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Sienna. The contact stated that the liftgate fell on him as he was loading items into the trunk of the vehicle. The contact moved out of the way as the liftgate proceeded to close independently without warning. The contact was unable to stop the liftgate from independently closing. The dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 114,000.
THE AUTOMATIC CLOSURE ON THE REAR SLIDING DOOR DOES NOT CLOSE AND LOCK THE DOOR IN PLACE. THE SENSOR BEEPS BUT ALLOWS YOU TO DRIVE EVEN THOUGH THE DOOR IS NOT SHUT ALL THE WAY AND LATCHED.
REAR POWER HATCH BEGINS TO OPEN, THEN IMMEDIATELY CLOSES. UNABLE TO OPEN THE HATCH ALL THE WAY MANUALLY WITHOUT THE POWER FUNCTION TAKING OVER, AND CLOSING THE HATCH BACK DOWN. VEHICLE WAS ON FLAT SURFACE ON THE STREET. OCCURRED DURING DAYTIME, AND TEMPERATURE AT AROUND 85 DEGREES.
THE DASHBOARD HAS BECOME GOOEY AND VERY SHINY, REFLECTING THE SUN AND CAUSING AN UNSAFE CONDITION WHERE VISIBILITY IS IMPAIRED.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DOOR CAME OFF OF THE TRACK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED DUE TO THE DOOR NOT BEING ABLE TO BE SECURELY LATCHED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 149,000.
PASSENGER SIDE POWER SLIDING DOOR NO LONGER WORKS UNDER POWER, MUST BE OPERATED MANUALLY, YET WHEN CLOSING THE POWER SYSTEM ENGAGES AND HELPS WITH LAST FEW INCHES
2004-2010 TOYOTA SIENNA POWER SLIDING DOOR CABLE WARRANTY EXTENSION ZTS CABLE ON MY 2007 MODEL BROKE AND RENDERS THE PASSENGER REAR SLIDING DOOR INOPERABLE AND IS NOT FULLY CLOSED. THE CONDITION HAPPENED WHILE LOADING MY 6 CHILDREN INTO THE VEHICLE, LUCKILY MY WIFE WAS ABLE TO CLOSE THE DOOR, WHICH ISN'T FULLY SECURE IN THE CLOSED POSITION . THE ONLY OPERATIONAL PASSENGER DOOR IS ON DRIVER SIDE (STREET SIDE), MY CHILDREN HAVE TO ENTER/EXIT VEHICLE ON BUSY NYC STREET. I CALLED TOYOTA UNDER THE CABLE EXTENSION WARRANTY HOWEVER MY VEHICLE IS 9 MONTHS PAST THE CUTOFF. I CAN NOT AFFORD THE REPAIR BILL THAT COULD EXCEED 2K.. AFTER READING MULTIPLE POSTS ON THE TOYOTA FORUM (HTTPS://WWW.TOYOHEADQUARTERS.COM/THREADS/2004-2010-TOYOTA-SIENNA-POWER-SLIDING-DOOR-CABLE-WARRANTY-EXTENSION-ZTS.186/) THIS APPEARS TO BE HAPPENING TO MULTIPLE VEHICLES EITHER OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY EXTENSION OR THEIR VIN DOESN'T QUALIFY THEM. I WORRY FOR THE SAFETY OF MY CHILDREN SINCE THESE CABLES CAN SNAP AT ANYTIME RENDING THE DOOR IN THE OPEN POSITION. IF IN AN ACCIDENT MY PASSENGERS WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO EXIT VEHICLE QUICKLY. I FEEL TOYOTA SHOULD COVER THE REPAIR OF THEIR FAULTY SAFETY EQUIPMENT VIA A RECALL.

RUBBER COATING ON HANDLE ON REAR DOOR LIFT MELTED APPROXIMATELY 5 YEARS AGO...WAS ACTUALLY OOZING DOWN. LEAVES FINGERS WITH BLACK GUNK ON THEM THAT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO WASH OFF WHENEVER OPENING THIS HATCH. NOTIFIED DEALER BUT WAS LEFT WITH "TOUGH LUCK" (IN MY WORDS). THE TAILGATE BECAME VERY HARD TO OPEN AND THEN THE HANDLE MELTED. NOW I CAN HARDLY OPEN THE TAILGATE.
REAR LIFT GATE FAILS AFTER OPENING AND CLOSES ON YOUR HEAD. NO SAFETY SENSOR AND CONTINUES TO CRUSH YOU IF YOU GET STUCK UNDER IT.

POWER SLIDING DOOR ON DRIVER SIDE FAILED WHEN I TRIED TO OPEN THE DOOR WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. DEALER CHARGED $1100 TO REPAIR. TOYOTA HAS ISSUED A WARRANT EXTENSION TO COVER THIS REPAIR; HOWEVER, THE EXTENSION HAS AN ARBITRARILY IMPOSED MILEAGE LIMITATION. THIS IS A DESIGN OR MATERIAL DEFECT THAT CAN EFFECT THE SAFETY OF PASSENGERS. THERE SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL.
PREMATURE FAILURE OF STRUTS FOR AUTOMATIC BACK HATCH OF 07 TOYOTA SIENNA LIMITED AWD MINIVAN. ALL OF A SUDDEN, IN THE LAST WEEK, THE REAR HATCH CANNOT OPEN FULLY AND SOMETIMES JUST CLOSES SUDDENLY WHEN IT HAS GONE JUST HALFWAY UP. AFTER CONTACTING THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WERE STILL NOT AVAILABLE AND NO ESTIMATED TIME TO RECEIVING THE PARTS COULD BE PROVIDED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE DEALER STATED THAT IT WAS NOT A SAFETY DEFECT AND THE CABLE COULD NOT BE REPLACED FOR FREE UNLESS IT WAS ACTUALLY FRACTURED. AFTERWARDS, WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO OPEN THE SLIDING DOOR, THE CABLE SUDDENLY DISCONNECTED, SNAPPED BACKWARDS, AND INJURED THE CONTACT'S CHILD'S FACE. THE CONTACT NOTIFIED THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WOULD REPAIR THE CABLE ASSEMBLY FOR FREE, BUT WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO REPAIR THE OTHER DOOR BECAUSE IT HAD NOT FRACTURED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.

THE DASHBOARD SEEMS TO BE BREAKING DOWN, MELTING AND/OR STICKY TO A DEGREE IT IS NOW SHINY AND REFLECTS LIGHTS BACK INTO THE DRIVER/PASSENGER COMPARTMENT ON SUNNY DAYS. THIS CREATES A GLARE MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SEE OUT WHEN OPERATING THIS VAN. AT TIMES, IT BECOMES HARD TO SEE CARS, STOP LIGHTS AND PEDESTRIANS. A LOCAL CHANNEL HERE IN HOUSTON RAN A STORY ON THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM CONCERNING DASH BOARDS THAT ARE BREAKING DOWN AND CAUSING SAFETY ISSUES. THANKS, *TR
WE HAD JUST RETURNED FROM A TRIP, AND PICKED UP OUR SIENNA MINIVAN AT THE PARKING LOT. I OPENED THE LEFT SIDE SLIDING DOOR, PUT SOME LUGGAGE IN THE BACK SEAT, AND THEN CLOSED THE DOOR. THE DOOR SLIDE CLOSED BUT DID NOT LATCH. I CYCLED THE DOOR AGAIN, AND IT STILL DID NOT LATCH. I TRIED THE RIGHT DOOR AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. WE HAD TO DRIVE HOME WITH THE WARNING BEEPING IN OUR EARS (THIS COMES ON IF THE CAR IS IN GEAR AND THE DOORS ARE NOT LATCHED). THE NEXT MORNING WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO OUR TOYOTA DEALER, AND THEY SAID THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM, BUT OUR CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, SO THEY WANT $3700 TO FIX THE DOORS. TO US, THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY MATTER THAT THE DEALERSHIP ADMITS IS DUE TO FAULTY PARTS -- THEY SAY THEY HAVE SEEN A LOT OF THIS PROBLEM ON SIENNAS. A CHILD COULD FALL OUT IN TRAFFIC, OR A PIECE OF LUGGAGE COULD BECOME A HAZARD TO OTHER DRIVERS. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE TOYOTA BE COMPELLED TO COVER THIS REPAIR REGARDLESS OF MILEAGE -- THEY SAID THE NORMAL 36,000 MILE WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED TO 120,000 MILES FOR THIS PROBLEM, WHICH THEY ACKNOWLEDGE AS A DEFECT, BUT THAT DOES NOT HELP THE MANY TOYOTA OWNERS WHO KEEP THEIR CARS LONGER.
