I had the GM 6.2L motor recall test, it passed. Catastrophic engine failure at 50mph roughly 6000-7000 miles later. Luckily I got off the road safely. Confirmed by GM dealer, new engine has been ordered. No warning lights.
On December 12th, while on interstate 10, my engine started making clanking noise, it started to stall and jerk. I had try to get over to the shoulder of the interstate. I had to restart the truck to try and get off the interstate. It died out. I tried to restart and it did, just enough for me to get it off the interstate. It was finally towed to the dealership. The mechanic said it wasn’t under warranty. They say the rocker atms are bent and 2 pistons were damaged the charge The mechanic also said that my engine in my truck was too small for my truck. He doesn’t know why they use it …. They want $8700 to make the repairs, GM will not assist in cost off to r repair. I’ve come to find out this is a common problem in this model of my truck.
The engine coolant control valve went out on my vehicle. It is an 2022 LM2 engine. I found that that part frequently goes bad prematurely on this model. I also determined that this should be covered under N252508341. I was told by GM customer support that based on my vin it is not covered and they would not give me any further information. This is outrageous as this is the same defective part covered on their extended warranty.
Brought my 2022 Chevy Silverado 6.2 L engine into dealership for Safety Recall N252494001 L87 Engine Loss of Propulsion. Engine passed this initial inspection, Oil, Oil Filter and Oil cap was changed and was sent on my way. February 4th, 2026, Engines lost propulsion while traveling at highway speed, (75mph) causing a serious safety concern with rush hour traffic. After pulling over to the side of the highway, I reset the truck by cycling the ignition and was able to start the truck. On February 5th, 2026, Engine lost propulsion again at neighborhood speed, (20) in a construction site. Truck was blocking traffic at this point. Engine was unable to be started, transmission was locked in Parked and unable to be shifted. Had to have truck "dragged" out of traffic. Dealership was notified that I had possible catastrophic engine failure. I was advised by dealership to have it towed, at my expense to them. Truck was towed at a cost of $196 out of pocket. Tow cost an extra $50 due to the electronic shift no allowing for transmission to be shifted into neutral or linkage to be released by tow company. February 6th, 2026, dealership notified me that the engine had a catastrophic failure and would need to be replaced. Dealership has motor but trying to source one time use parts that were currently unavailable. No time frame given on sourcing those parts as of February 10th, 2026. Dealership/GM arranged for a rental car but financial limits set by GM does not include the ability to be given a truck as a rental. I am in construction and need a truck and have a once in a lifetime trip coming up March 13th. I am in need of a truck for the trip to haul my SxS and gear to another state. Very frustrated at GM for doing a piss poor job on rectifying the engine issue in the L87. The personal safety of loosing engine propulsion at 75mph during rush hour traffic could have ended in a bad accident.
On 2/5/2026, the 6.2 liter L87 engine in my 2022 ZR2 Silverado locked up and is currently located at Edwards Chevrolet on highway 280 in Birmingham, AL. While on I-65 in Birmingham, AL. and prior to locking up, the engine power decreased, and RPM's increased, followed by a dash message that oil temperature is high; pull over and idle. After idling the engine the dash message disappeared and oil pressure was good. We drove approx. 1.5 miles to a parking lot where the engine seized or locked up. The truck was towed to the above referenced dealership. The dealership confirmed the engine was locked up the next day. During the Summer of 2025, the dealership inspected the engine and performed an oil consumption test after I reported the engine had burned two quarts of oil between oil changes. Their fix was to transition from 0W-20 to 0W-40 oil, which has been adhered to since. The truck only has 56,000 miles on it.
on febuary,3,2026 i was traveling down a local highway at 50 mph when i felt a sudden power loss and heard a squeaking noise figuring something was wrong i pulled over at the next safest spot, while pulling into the spot the squeaking noise developed into a "rod knock" the sound a loud metal clattering noise that was consistent with the rpms. i immediately shut the vehicle off and called a local towing service who promptly dropped it at my local chevy dealership the night of febuary,3,2026. further contact was made with dealership the day of febuary,4,2026 regarding the issue , prior to this issue the truck had been in for the recall regarding the L87 6.2 liter engine and it had passed the inspection and was given the oil change and the new oil cap and owners manual.
Engine seized up at 70 mph on highway. Loss of all power and was lucky to coast off road in heavy traffic. Vehicle had just passed safety recall inspection two weeks earlier. Replacement engine installed at dealership, but it failed and second replacement engine currently being installed.
Going down highway in winter conditions and vehicle had a shudder and was shifting funny and blew up total loss of power..this happend a week after getting recall done and engine oil changed..that was a very dangerous position to put me and my passenger in. Toal failure of bottom end..
The engine seized while at highway speed in traffic during evening rush hour. The engine failure has been confirmed by a GM dealer and is set for replacement. There was no warning or indication that total engine failure was imminent.
I started my truck and was driving it started to shake and felt forced. Making a sound vibration . I received a message on dashboard " Reduce acceleration drive with care" it felt like I was going to loose power so I turned into the parking lot and had it towed to chevrolet dealership for service. The safety was good in the sense that I parked the vehicle into a parking lot to prevent accidents in the freeway. The dealership claims it's my engine needs replacement.
Truck shift irratically and engine revved high and engine oil too hot message came up. Truck started to shut down on highway at 65mph pulling trailer and side by side in traffic. Once stopped truck would not restart. Engine oil temp was pegged too hot. Had to have truck towed.

While driving on interstate the screen said press button to start and the engine turned off on a steep uphill. After attempting to restart I tried to safely get to the shoulder without causing a wreck. This left us on the side of interstate for hours on a blind hilltop with trucks coming feet from us. After towing to the dealership they notified me that the engine was done and it fell victim to the recall that Chevy just had on the 6.2. Mind you I had already brought this truck in for the recall inspection and it supposedly passed
As I was speeding from the fast lane to get across to the right lane off ramp when my vehicle suddenly shot off. I knew I couldn’t stop on the off ramp or on the bridge I was on. Luckily I had a green light at the top of the off ramp and coasted to an empty parking lot. Once I came to a complete stop I attempted to restart my truck but no luck. The truck would not even crank over. I tried multiple times and the dash would only go dark for a few seconds and I would try again to start and had no luck. Called AAA and they thought it was a battery so they put a jumper and same thing, no crank. Then they tried jumping it with jumper cables and still no crank at all. I had just installed a new battery no more than 4 months ago and my headlights, interior lights all are working fine, no dimming or anything like that. I just had an inspection on the engine last time the truck was at the dealer and they said everything was fine and they put a new oil cap and thicker oil. I think this is related to the safety recall Chevy just performed. This is a huge safety risk, I’m lucky I was able to pull off the freeway when this occurred. It’s not normal for a vehicle to just shutoff on you at freeway speeds.
My 2022 Silverado 1500 with the 6.2L V8 engine has had continuous problems since purchase. The original engine was replaced under warranty at approx. 24k miles and has now had the lifters and camshaft replaced, as well as the knock sensors. All of this had to be negotiated with GM and my poor service manager, despite numerous recalls and class action lawsuits with GM regarding these known issues. I would like to trade this truck off for something safe and reliable, however the used value is tanking as quickly as their new vehicles. Dealerships are offering over $11k off of new 2026 trucks, damaging the resale value of all 2021-2025 units. At this point I just want GM to purchase the vehicle back and let me find something safe for my family.
the first engine blew while pulling out of my street onto a 45 mph road in march of 2025. they did the useless recall on the new engine and said it was good. The replacement engine blew in the november of 2025 in the fast lane at 80 mph. no warning no check engine lights just shut off. The replacement engine started make noise like it was going to blow again in december 2025. I paid 65k to have 3 bad engines in one year. corporate gm was of no help
My truck has the 6.2l engine that is in recall. I received my letter and took it in for inspection and oil change as recommended (Dec 15, 2025). Less than a month later (Jan 26, 2026) my engine started making loud noises. Got it to the dealership. The claim found metal in oil, spun rod bearings. They did replace engine under recall at no charge but then a week later my check engine light came on. Bad battery control module. not sure if this was due to engine swap, etc.
My truck has the 6.2l engine, prior to me buying it in September 2025 with 27,000 miles it had its engine replaced due to the recall/engine failure, then after 6,000 miles on 12-30-25 the 2nd engine it has had failed and had to be replaced. This truck that only has 34,000 miles is now on its 3rd motor and leaves me worried to really travel with it due to wondering if I am going to be stranded again.
I took my truck in for the recall on the L87 6.2 engine PCOED test and they said it passed. They changed to the 0-40 oil. I noticed a significant fuel mileage drop from mid 20 to low 14 on long highway drives. I had an oil change done and drove 500 miles the next day and there was just a trace of oil on the dipstick. I called my chevy dealership and they said that is normal for oil consumption. I topped off the oil before heading back home and used 3/4 of a quart. I am watching my oil consumption and looking to do an oil consumption test done by the dealership. They did not recommend this test I researched it. I am concerned my engine will blow up.
The engine started knocking. The Dealer confirmed the Thrust Bearing was the culprit. Engine replacement recommended. 41k. 6.2
On October 6th I took my truck in for the 6.2L recall and it failed. GM replaced the engine as. On Jan 15th 10 days after my first oil change just before 5000 miles the engine began to knock. After being towed 100 miles to the original dealer the replacement engine has blown and now I am waiting for another replacement.
My 2022 Silverado Pickup with 6.2 engine simply died as I was heading down the highway at 65mph. It was dark outside and I barely got it pulled over to side of road safely. Had to have it towed to Chevy dealer. They weren’t sure what problem was— starter and battery indicated ok. However we had them install new ones just in case. We’ve seen on our searches of the internet that this is not a new problem. Just today it died again on me as I was driving in town, but did start again. I travel quite a bit and am worried it will die on me again in this crazy cold weather! Chevy needs to acknowledge this issue with the 6.2 motor! I’ve already spent almost $1500 on this issue and don’t think it’s fixed,
I've owned the 2022 Silverado High Country with 6.2L engine. Over the past 3.5 years, the engine has had oil consumption issues where I was required to take the vehicle to Chevrolet dealership every 500 miles in Hampton, VA to have the oil level checked. I kept getting the message "low Oil Level" on the information center. I also kept hearing loud ticking noise coming from the engine. Chevy service would top off the oil level (sometimes 1/2 or 1+ quart low), and send me on my way. After oil consumption and ticking noise continued, I was notified by Dealer that a Safety Recall April 2025 was issued by GM. I met with GM Representative and Chevy Service Manager April 2025, and based on my truck history with oil consumption and lifter noise, decision was made to replace engine. New Engine was installed May 2025 and all appeared to be good to go. However, in November 2025 I heard the loud clicking noise in the new engine. Hampton, VA Chevy service conducted an inspection and found a bent push rod in new engine. Service replaced the push rod and all lifters based on history of lifter issues.
The engine started knocking and squeaking. Mileage is 42,142
Since brand new engine has had oil consumption issues. Countless times I have been told it is ok and there is no problems with it. I took it to a different dealer and I am now being told I need to replace pistons and rings.
