LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHEN DRIVING
LOSS OF POWER STEERING INTERMEDIATELY
THE STEERING WHEEL OFTEN "STICKS" OR "CATCHES" WHILE DRIVING. IT HAPPENS ON BOTH CITY STREETS AND HIGHWAYS, GENERALLY AFTER TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE WHICH AFFECTED THE POWER STEERING. EVEN AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE SERVICED TO ADDRESS THE RECALL, THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. THE MECHANIC SAYS THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE RACK AND PINION, WHICH NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THERE SHOULD NOT BE PROBLEMS WITH THE RACK AND PINION ON A 4-YEAR-OLD VEHICLE. I AM WONDERING IF THE PROBLEM THAT NECESSITATED THE RECALL ALSO COMPROMISED OR DAMAGED THE RACK AND PINION.
THE POWER STEERING ASSIST IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY, THE CAR PULLS TO THE RIGHT AND IT'S HARD TO GET IT BACK ON THE ROAD, THERE IS A RECALL V053 TO ADDRESS A POWER STEERING ISSUE, BUT THE DEALER STATES THAT RECALL IS NOT CAUSING MY PROBLEM AND TO FIX THE ISSUE WILL COST $3400.00. HOW DO I KNOW IF THE RECALL IS THE PROBLEM OR TRONCALLI'S DIAGNOSTIC TEST RESULTS?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 CHRYSLER PACIFICA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, EXCESSIVE FORCE WAS NEEDED TO ADJUST THE POWER STEERING AFTER MAKING RIGHT TURN, WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT SPOKE TO LENOIR CITY CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (1206 E BROADWAY ST, LENOIR CITY, TN 37772) WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON HER VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED THE SAME INFORMATION AS THE DEALER. THE CONTACT WAS THEN REFERRED TO NHTSA FOR ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAD YET TO BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,000.
THE POWER STEERING ABRUPTLY STOPS IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING MAKING TURNING THE VEHICLE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT FOR ME AND IMPOSSIBLE FOR MY SPOUSE. THEN, WHILE I AM USING ALL MY MIGHT TO TURN IT AROUND A CORNER, IT RESUMES AND CAUSES ME TO JERK THE WHEEL. THESE ISSUES HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY, IN PARKING LOTS, AND SIDE ROADS, THE POWER STEERING JUST STOPS AND STARTS WITHOUT CAUSE. I ALMOST HIT A GUARD RAIL ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY CLEANED THE WIRES BUT IT'S STILL HAPPENING. NOW, THEY WANT ME TO PAY $3,500 TO FIX A PROBLEM THAT I DIDN'T CAUSE.
THE STEERING IS STICKING. I HAVE NOTICED THE STEERING WHEEL GET STUCK WHEN TURNING TO THE RIGHT AND WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES OVER THE LAST 2 WEEKS. WE HAVE A 2017 PACIFICA.
WE PURCHASED THE CAR IN 2018. THE VEHICLE'S POWER STEERING ALWAYS STARTS TO LOCK/STICK INTO ONE DIRECTION AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR 45 MINUTES OR SO. IT IS MOST NOTICABLE ON THE HWY AT SPEEDS OF 70 MPH OR ABOVE, BUT ON LONGER TRIP AS THE CAR HAS BEEN RUNNING LONGER, THE POWER STERRING LOCKING/STICKING TAKES PLACE LOWER SPEEDS AS WELL. WHEN THW POWER STEERING STARTS TO LOCK/STICK, IT REQUIRES A JERK FORCE ON THE STERRING WHEEL TO STRAIGHTEN IT OUT AND THIS CAN EASILY CAUSE OVERSTEERING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. ONCE THE PROBLEM STARTS IT IS CONSTANT AND YOU HAVE TO ALWAYS FIGHT AGAINST THE POWER STEERING. IT IS DANGEROUS AND WE ARE GETTING RID OF THE CAR. WE HAVE TAKEN IT SEVERAL TIMES TO THE CHRYSLER DEALESHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT (MOPAR) AND THEY HAVE ALWAYS TOLD ME THE POWER STEERING NEEDS AN UPDATE AND HAVE NEVER RESOLVED THE ISSUE. THEY CANNOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM EITHER.
I BOUGHT 2017 CHRYSLER PACIFICA TOURING L 3 WEEKS AGO USED FROM A DODGE DEALERSHIP. THIS PAST WEEK MY WIFE AND I TOOK A LONG ROAD TRIP OVER 1000 MILES.THE CAR DROVE JUST FINE AND WHEN WE ARRIVED I DIDN'T DRIVE THE CAR FOR TWO DAYS. WHEN I WENT TO START IT BACK UP, IT SENT A MESSAGE SAYING ITS LOST COMMUNICATION TO POWER STEERING AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND THE STEERING WHEEL IS NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. I'M AT A LOSS BECAUSE THE CAR DROVE PERFECTLY FOR THREE WEEKS THEN SAT FOR TWO DAYS AND JUST STOPPED. I CAN'T DRIVE IT. HAD IT TOWED TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY WANT TO REPLACE STEERING RACK.
WHILE DRIVING THE STEERING WHEEL WILL STICK LIKE THE POWER STEERING IS FAILING. IT IS MOST NOTICEABLE WHEN ON THE HIGHWAY. IF YOU TURN SLIGHTLY TO THE RIGHT, THE STEERING WHEEL WILL THEN STICK AND THEN YOU HAVE TO GIVE A JERK TO THE LEFT TO GET IT BACK TO CENTER. IT FEELS LIKE THE POWER STEERING IS GOING OUT. I SEE THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THE VAN FOR THE POWER STEERING ON SOME MODELS BUT WHEN I CHECKED THE VIN ON MINE IT SAID IT WASN'T INCLUDED. I'M CONCERNED THAT MY VEHICLE IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE BUT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.
THE STEERING "STICKS" WHEN GOING AROUND A CURVE TO THE RIGHT. I'VE HAD THE TIRES ALIGNED, IT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM.
THE STEERING IS LOOSE. WHILE TURNING THERE IS A KNOCK, TURNING INTO A PARKING SPACE OR BACKING OUT OF A DRIVE WAY, WHILE IN PARK AND TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. I TOOK MY VAN IN 1 AND A HALF WEEKS AFTER MY WARRANTY EXPIRED AND THEY SAID I NEEDED A NEW RACK AND PINION WHICH WAS GOING TO BE OVER $4000,00! THE DEALERSHIP ADVISED ME TO CALL CHRYSLER TO SEE IF THEY WOULD COVER IT, THEY DID NOT. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH, IT IS SHOWN THAT IF A RACK AND PINION IS BAD, THE FRONT END COULD FALL APART AT ANY TIME. I ONLY HAVE 36K MILES ON MY VAN THAT IS 2 YEARS OLD. THAT IS RIDICULOUS TO ME, AND THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN. ESPECIALLY IN A FAMILY VEHICLE SUCH AS A VAN.
FOR THE PAST MONTH OR SO WHEN THE VEHICLE IS GOING IN CURVES THE STEERING WHEEL IS STICKING. IT'S ALMOST LIKE THERE IS NO POWER STEERING. I FEEL LIKE I COULD WRECK MY VEHICLE BECAUSE IT IS VERY HARD TO CONTROL DUE TO THE STEERING. THIS IS OCCURRING WHEN THE VAN IS IN MOTION, ACCELERATING, WHEN I TRY TO TURN THE WHEEL BACK STRAIGHT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 CHRYSLER PACIFICA. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED FOR APPROXIMATELY THREE TO FOUR SECONDS WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AUTO PLAZA CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM FARMINGTON (970 E WOODLAWN DR, FARMINGTON, MO 63640, (573) 431-7800) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE RACK AND PINION MODULE DEFAULTED AND THE POWER STEERING MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,300.
DRIVING MULTIPLE OCCURRENCES OF BRIEF LOSS OF POWER STEERING AT SPEED IN MOTION. HESITATION, DIFFICULT, HARD TO TURN. GOOGLED THIS ISSUE AN OBSERVED A FCA RECALL. I CALLED FCA CUSTOMER SERVICES AND THEY STATED MY VEHICLE IS NOT IN THE RECALL BY VIN. HOWEVER IT IS AN EARLY 2017 MODEL.. I AM FILING THIS AS MY WIFE REPORTED THIS TO ME FOR THE FIRST TIME THAT IT HAD OCCURRED TO HER RECENTLY WHEN DRIVING. AFTER SHE TOLD ME 3 MILES LATER WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT SPEED OFT 45MPH IN A WIDE SWEEPING TURN THE STEERING RESISTED INPUT ON ME TO RETURN TO CENTER AND CAUGHT ME BY SURPRISE FOR A BRIEF SECOND THEN RESUMED BACK TO NORMAL. AT THAT MOMENT I MYSELF HAD JUST WHAT SHE TOLD ME HAPPENED TO HER MULTIPLE TIMES RECENTLY WHEN DRIVING. WE NO LONGER WANT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND DEEM IT A SAFETY RISK DUE TO THIS STEERING ISSUE.

WHEN MAKING A SLIGHT RIGHT HAND TURN THE STEERING DOES NOT NATURALLY RETURN TO THE CENTER POSITION, AND MUST BE PHYSICALLY FORCED TO RETURN TO THE CENTER POSITION. THIS PROBLEM HAS PERSISTED FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS
I TOOK MY CAR 2 TIMES ALREADY TO THE CHRYSLER SERVICE CENTER TO INVESTIGATE STEERING WHEEL PROBLEM, AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY COULDNT FIND OUT ANY PROBLEM. IT FEELS LIKE LOCKING WHEN YOU TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AND TURN TO OTHER WAY. MY 3 BABIES ARE RIDING IN THIS CAR AND I WORRY SO MUCH. IT HAPPENS LOW SPEED AND HIGH SPEED ALSO (30 - 70 MPH)
STEERING STICKS IN CURVES. IT STARTED ON TRIP TO FL IN EARLY NOVEMBER AND HAS CONTINUED WE HAD IT LINED UP AND TIRES ROTATED WHEN WE GOT BACK BUT IT CONTINUES AND IS GETTING WORSE.
2017 CHRYSLER PACIFICA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO LOSS OF POWER STEERING. *LD THE CONSUMER REQUESTED TO BE REFUNDED THE FULL PRICE OF THE VEHICLE AND OTHER EXPENSES INCURRED DUE TO THE DEFECT. *JS
I WAS DRIVING ON THE STREET THANKFULLY AT A LOWER SPEED ABOUT 25 MPH AND THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY GAVE OUT. IT THEN CAME BACK RANDOMLY WHILE TURNING. IT DID THAT MULTIPLE TIMES BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO THE DEALER. I HAVE BEEN TOLD IT IS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. IT HAS BEEN 2 1/2 MONTHS AND THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIX IT. I DO HAVE A LOANER. I HAD A CHRYSLER CUSTOMER CARE CASE BUT THEY HAVE CUT OFF ALL CONTACT WITH ME.
